  1. Robert Thank you for your reply and feedback. The flashing sky was an error caused by the layer being turned on at the wrong time. The shadows ? I'm not at all sure about. Its not a quick render and shadows are turned on in the render panel but non are showing up I'm just about to have a look and see what might be causing that. I hadn't noticed his hips before but someone else did mention it. I shall adjust them in a short while. regards simon
  2. Some technical glitches and map alignments to sort out but, this is the whole scene. But, does it read as a sequence. Is there any doubt about whats going on ? Nosey C.mov The glitches included the sky layer no longer rendering, except as a series of black dots ? and the constraints on the binoculars dropping out erratically and needing to be reset. this in V17 under OSX Hope to realign the maps then render out at 1080. Before finalising the whole thing. Off on holiday in a few weeks so intend to re render the whole project at a consistent quality and while thats going through, do the sound. Anticipating the render taking several week if not months. Will buy some more network permits to speed it up. Some 720p renders were taking 3 hours to do on standard settings as there are a lot of reflective surfaces.
  3. Almost done with the edit. Feedback received suggested one further scene was needed.Showing Bill arriving at the house sometime after Doris on her bike. This is the first half of that and an adaptation of one already used. The second half will be of him getting out of the car. I hadn't applied any maps to make this figure older and am beginning to think I should. He's one of the nosey neighbours keeping track of everybody else. Any critical feedback very welcome indeed, simon Nosey .mov
  4. Robert Thank you very much indeed. Very much appreciated. I looked under the model properties not the chor properties. Another lesson learned. regards simon My old car was known for a long time as 'Boris' The cat was misidentified ?
  5. On a trivial note, the hand of the pirate on the right goes through the mesh of the one next to him. On a more related subject. I bought a DVD recently of "The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet". The 'extras' are a feature length documentary about how it was made. Possibly the best of its kind that I've seen. JP Jeunet has an unusual way of storyboarding his films which is worth a look anyway but the looks into the development and preproduction processes are equally good as are the shots of filming and post production. The explanation of 3D was very good too. I haven't watched the film on DVD yet because I saw it in the cinema but I do remember it vividly. If you were going to make a live action film you'd want that team working for you. regards simon
  6. Having spent the last few days trying to get some maps applied it seemed like a good idea to test them out in a scene. When I did I got a strange result. The two figures in the same scene rendered completely differently, even though the settings are the same This was the initial result, with the maps in place. ( also found a problem with the hair around the right ear ). Notice the difference between Bill and Doris? I went back into the properties panel to make sure the settings were the same, aside from the colour. Got the same result The above was all in V17g Opened the cho file in V18p and embedded everything needed, saved as 001B before testing again, New Happy Families 001B.prj It would not render properly as a .PNG file, when opened in Photoshop it refused and flagged a message that it "could not parse the file format" ? Tried again with jpg, Only to be told that it could not be saved ? Finally got a render using TGA as the file format. This is a jpg conversion of that. As you can see. There are no shadows on the Bill figure but they are there on the Doris figure. I checked but flat shaded is not selected. If someone has the time, could they kindly point me to the errors of y ways? thank you simon
  7. Mat Thanks for your reply and help, much appreciated. I shall have a look at the eyes later( pardon unintended joke there ) I wanted the hair to look drawn rather than cg generated on these two models, Bill and Doris. Because it, sort of, fits with the idea behind it all. The three generations are done in slightly different styles. Originally, the oldest generation, B&D, were hand drawn on paper but, that proved to be a logistical nightmare compositing it into the scenes and, most importantly, didn't look too good either, So, for the relaunch, decided to go all cg but using different render styles. Don't know how I've managed it ( or mismanaged it ) but, having spent several days trying to get the mapping to work on the figures, I tried an animation test, only to find that I'd 'lost' half the rig in the process. Now working my way around that error. Onwards and upwards, pip, pip. !!! I don't really drink but, I'm told there is a particularly potent wine called Bulls Blood. That might be best for avoiding the brown ? regards simon
  8. Still working on the maps. This is state of play on Bill. (non toon render ) Not sure why his right side beard comes out so different from the left. Will havea look tomorrow. Need to redo the hair at the front and adjust colour and bump around the eyes. Any critical feedback very welcome simon*
  9. Apropos of nothing substantial. The Shadingfield Fox. the sign on the edge of the village says Shadingfield and Wilingham Sadly, no longer bright pink. The local story goes that, they used to mix Bulls blood with the whitewash paint, which is why there were so many pink houses. They even have a commercially available "Suffolk Pink" paint in hardware stores. Or did. best get back to work on face maps simon
  10. Robert Thank you for your reply and help. Much appreciated. There should be about 6-7 tones in the hair,as there were in the map applied. It may have been smoothed out in the render (?) There are two separate sides to the hair but the parting is not really visible, will try to adjust that later. I did wonder about the bottom edge and perhaps using a cookie cutter map for that ? Will give it some more consideration the next few days. Regards simon These were the hair maps used
  11. Doris gets some toon hair. One of the comments I got thought she was wearing a scarf. Hope this doesn't look like she is still wearing it? simon
  12. Robert Thank you, I've not put any bump maps on them yet but will try later on. There are some wrinkle lines but, I turned the colour down to about 40% on them and the face map. regards simon
  13. Still have to do the maps for the hair and position the hands more carefully but, this is it so far. Any critical feedback very welcome indeed. simon
  14. Should add that, I liked William's suggestion in his tutorial abut namimg the decal groups and giving them a temporary colour.
  15. Not been in a pub for a long time but, I'll see if I can get a photo... regards simon
  16. Robert Apologies, only just saw your reply. Thank you. I'm going to try doing the hands next, then the hair. I'm painting the textures in TVpaint as I seeem to get on with that more than photoshop. I would so like to get this whole thong finished so I can move onto something new bu, every time I think I get close, something else crops up. The next projects grass is looking very green. regards simon
  17. Need to do the hair and the hands next but, with some possible adjustments to the light pink sections, this isv06 of the face map
  18. Robert Thank you. It didn't appear there but, if I changed the display to shaded and wireframe It did. Now to try repainting it. regards Simon on a (very) trivial note, theres a village about 4 miles from here, called Shadingfield. The pub, called "The Fox", is painted bright pink. Pink houses used to be very common around here, less so now.
  19. I've clearly missed something here but don't know what ? I managed to get flatten to work, then started to follow through William's tutorial using the blank decal. Unfortunately, this was the result in the editor, rather than the lines and patches shown in his work. Could somebody kindly point out what I might be doing wrong ? thank you Simon
  20. Thank you Robert. I shall try that, straight after a much needed cup of tea. regards simon
  21. Trying to follow up on William's tutorial but having trouble with Flatten. In the V11 tech refence there is a guide to how to use flatten but, working in V17, that does not seem to apply ? this was the view before flatten, but this was the view afterwards Has the process changed since V11 and, if so, can someone kindly point me to a tutorial about how to use it in V17 ? simon
  22. William Thank you very much. I've been working on it today, without a great deal of success. I shall watch the tutorial straight away. I tried to do it by flattening the model in an action but it produced some decal stretching afterwards. Regards simon
  23. Robert Thank you once again for your help. I'm going to redo the mapping tomorrow but, I've reworked the geometry and tried to get some jowel softening and induce some crease/wrinkles,. This is a quick render of the result, with mapping and without. regards simon
  24. Some of the feedback received thought that both the Bill and Doris characters didn't look old enough so I've spent the last few days trying to get a mapping setup that will age them. Its proving dificult with a toon setting. I post this as an amusing attempt. The eyes might have to be adjusted !!!
  25. Robert. Thank You. You can tell I've not done this before ! Lots of adjustments to follow regards simon
