  1. Nice head/body motion.

I like the pose with his left arm up when he's shaking his head (I'm assuming he's supposed to have a pipe in his left hand?)

The right arm seems a bit undirected, dangly.

Also might like to see the left arm come down sooner when he says "but"

no I wasn't thinking of a pipe more just touching his beard and stash, but didn't want to animate it much until his beard is finalized (I assumed his beard wasn't final).

I agree with the right arm. Couldn't come up with something that worked in the time I spent.

What's there isn't bad. But I'm not feeling a performance from him. What is he talking about. Consider what he's saying...."No I don't". There are so many ways to act that out such as:

    1) If he's answering a question such as "do you have stolen goods in your pocession" then he's going to look guilty if he does.

    2) If he's answering a question like "do you eat children for breakfast" then he might look shocked when saying the "No I don't".

OK....Fairly "out there" examples, but you get the idea. I understand you can only go by the dialogue performance....and that's indicating to me a thoughtful looking approach.

I think the "but" requires a sudden change in posture of some sort too.

Thanks for the ideas Ken, That will be good for when I or someone else comes back to this one.

  2. Somehow I got my actor folder updated but how do i get updatablility back for the levels above it?

    [attachmentid=21707]

When you try to update the folder above it what messages or errors do you get?

You could try a tortoise clean up command on the root folder.

  3. Hi Nancy

I notice that his knees pop some. Try this...

Turn of animate mode (The capital A at the end of the manipulator tool bar)

Translate the hips down just a bit.

    Turn animate mode back on.

This will move all keyframes on the hips down a bit so that the legs don't hyper extend.

    Keep on yoopin -)

  4. Hi

    WIP

This is realy rough. Here is what I got started before my time ran out.

    scarecrow 100-114 starting to answer

scarecrow 114-143 starting to back away from klu jumping at him

    the rest 143-199 rougly blocked

  5. Hi all,

I really would like to get started with participating on the TWO movie. I posted my Dot Project access request last Saturday morning and I'm still waiting for notification for my level to be raised. I'm assuming I can't download any assignments till I get the Dot project access password?

You're all set with dotproject. Now see step six on the svn walkthrough to get your svn password setup.

  6. New assignments come out on Monday. Make sure you "Update" your TWO SVN database before starting. (It takes a long time to update so start this weekend.)

Or use tortoise (or svnx on the mac) to get just the folder that contains your scene (and possibly the models in your chor if it complains on load). Then while your getting started you can start the full update.

  7. Yep nancy, I think that if when the head comes on screen you set an arms key and then about 1/2 way down set one with the arms in front, then the arm landing would look more natural.

  8. We made it back and had lots of fun on our vacation.

I am ready to start on assigned model but I can not get SVN to work to locate the assignment. I have walked through the SVN walkthrough. Any thoughts?

    Steve

Where in the walkthrough are you getting stuck?

Are you getting any error messages?

    Are you mac or pc?

  9. Has anyone tested saving a v13 project in v14 and then taking it back to v13?

If this test is cleared on enough 'hero' files to consider it a success I would think v14 could be used even now. The uploads would just need to be done in v13 while v14 is in Alpha/Beta.

    Just wondering out loud.

Until there is a compelling reason to switch we should stay in v13 for any editing.

Rendering may be switched to v14 soon as it has some speed improvements.

  10. Ok Noel, but the rig has been updated since then, will that matter?

I can't believe this hasn't been brought up sooner, this happened on July 26th. And don't worry Nancy, you didn't do it.

With svn you can rewind to any rev. If you find the one where the part that is broken is correct, I can try to merge that into the current rev. (once the torch is passed to me)

  11. Hey Noel. It looks pretty good.

Thanks for posting the links to your daily task logs. I didn't do that, but it seems like a good idea.

At the end of your shot Woot sets his elbow on his thigh, which seems natural, but raises his thigh to do this which doesn't seem natural. If he is resting, his thigh should still be resting on the ground too, like the other leg. Pointing your toe to raise your knee isn't a very maintainable or comfortable position.

    Bob

The idea was that he pulled his heel back and rested that on the stool leg.

Since his foot is off screen Rhett and I thought we could get away with that.

Otherwise he would have to bend down too far to reach his knee.

It seems like if the calf is pulled back it might look more natural. If not we may need to rework the end pose.

  12. Nancy, I can't believe you broke woot. Somehow the mid section geometry bone has been deleted. I PM'd David to let him know, he'll probably have it fixed as soon as possible, woot will have to be reweighted or reverted back to a earlier version.

figure out which rev has what you want for the bones and the rig, make an A:M report, and I can try merging that into the current woot. After checking with who ever else is working on him.

  13. I like very much how he settles in to hear Tinman's story.

I don't quite understand the first straightening up - it appears as if he's startled by Tinman saying "indeed" - Perhaps there should be a hold when he reaches the up position, just to indicate an alertness motion, rather than a startle, before he settles back down. Perhaps start the upward motion towards the end or after the word "indeed" rather than simultaneously?

He is actually reacting to what tinman says in the previous scene.

"Well, then. I have not always been made of tin", Then it cuts to woot reacting to that.

I think it may be to extreeme but it will be hard to tell until its cut in with the previous scene.

    Thanks for the critiques.

  14. Looks good.

I would switch the right arm to fk and set a key for the hand pos half way between down and clasped.

That way his hand wouldn't be stationary at first, and not pass through the table.

I'd also pose one of the thumbs so that the don't intersect at the end.

    [inside joke]

    i'm wrong

    [end inside joke]

  15. Hi all.

It was fun this week to animate on TWO.

Here are my results of 5.5 hours.

    task logs

    Here is what I learned.

I used dot project to find out what in the previous scene was going on.

I suggested to Rhett that if its easy he could add the sound from the previous scene in frame 0-100 as the action starts on 100 for the dynamics.

Found some possible features that I added to A:M reports.

Found and fixed one bug for v13.0k #3768

A trick that I did was to use many choreography actions to separate the motion into layers.

    * one to hide bones that I wasn't working with

    * one for the major motion

    * one for the hands secondary motion

    * one for the eyes

    * one to simulate dynamics into (his backpack tags were flipping out if I didn't simulate)

I couldn't get the eyes to move with the eyeaimerbone, but I see now it was because I didn't understand what eye target tracking meant. So there is no eye motion.

There is no facial motion or posing except blinking.

I think his reaction might be a little strong

I'm not real happy with his left hand end position.

    What do you think?
