  1. Excellent! Thanks Nancy and Noel.

I started updating the chess pieces to v13 but A:M won't update the material shortcuts in the models' groups. They continue to point at Nancy's v11 materials. Should I edit the models by hand to fix the links before committing the v13 versions?

    Rhett

I'll play with it tomorrow and see what is going on. You are welcome to hand edit the files.

What specific file did you have this problem with?

I think you should just overwrite the v11.1 files with v13.0 files as we can always rewind to the original commit if we need the v11.1 files. Save won't let you overwrite the v11.1 files but I think save as will let you overwrite them.

    Thanks

  2. Nancy sent us a cd of chess pieces and garden elements

    I put them on svn.

    They seem to be v11.1

I moved their image and materials into folders so they will have to be browsed for.

Wasn't sure where on dot project to put them so I put them in preproduction modeling

  3. Noel or anyone else: Is there a quick way to reset a null back to it's default position (where it's at in the model window). I can see it being quite tedious if you have to re-align nulls to their default position null to get other poses to work (eg if you've moved joint nulls then it messes up the poses in the split null controls).

If you "force keyframe" while in "compensate mode" the null's value will be reset to zero, but unfortunately the null doesn't jump back to it's zero position until you touch it or until you touch one of the arrow keys.

I forgot about that force keyframe with compensate mode on. If you think there is an issue with it please report it

Set translate, scale and rotate to zero. Any motion done in an action is relative to its bones mode.

    A:M Reports 0002716 :)

Thanks just making sure it wasn't something else.

What exactly is the difference between the pose method that we have been using recently and the method that has just been reintroduced?

I'm not sure what is the method you've been using recently. Can you elaborate?

I am just curious whats new when you say that you have just recently reintroduced an A:M 8.5 drag/drop feature.

Dragging a pose from the pose sliders panel into a reusable action is like opening that pose and copying and pasting into the reusable action. (I just found and reported an issue when I tried this with a two character)

This all sounds pretty good except that it may mean losing the clean view of the model, while animating, that we (almost) get when doing it in a choreography! I'll have to experiment with making standard Poses with the FACE. I think someone had issues with this a few pages back.

    I don't follow.

You would have to read the start of this thread but to save you the time ...

I was trying to keep an uncluttered view of Nimmie's face while working with the FACE rig and so started trying different arrangements of windows. An Action window to animate in and a choreography window to get a clean view of the facial expressions. That was nice to start with but soon produced the problem where the FACE controls became unresponsive. Martin suggested two choreography windows, with a separate camera for viewing the results, and that is what I have been using. Its not exactly the clean view that I was after but it seems alot more intuitive to me than doing it in just one window.

If you submit data and steps to http://www.hash.com/reports to show how to get the controls unresponsive we can try to fix that.

    Thanks for the extra info.

  6. B) Putting together expression and lipsync.

I think the best way to do this will be to do the lipsync and facial expressions in two or more separate chor actions that way you can control the precedence with the order of the choractions. The order would probably be: expression, lipsync, tweaks. That way lipsync would override the expressions, and a third choraction could tweak the result.

I just tried this. It looks like I need to talk this over with Bob Croucher after he's back from the Boston Marathon. Here is his results.

    Pace 0:07:34 Official Time 3:18:07 3441 overall 3175 gender 1054 division

  7.

    Oops!

I've just seen your post, Noel.

A1) You could use this Face.act to copy and paste keys from, into where you are animating.

Yes. This is basically what I would like to do but I'm not sure of the best way to copy from one action to another. I suppose having two actions open and doing the standard copy/paste is the way. (Any chance you guys could fix the CTRL/C keyboard command? That would make copy/paste much more intuitive.)

Is there an A:M report issue number for this?

A2) You could instead of Face.act, make poses for the canned expressions and use pose drag drop to get the expressions into the shot (recently reintroduced version 8.5 feature).

I considered using a pose to store the facial expressions but I often lose track of where I have got to when setting lots of poses on a single slider. Its easier to see what you are doing, on the timeline, in an action or a choreography.

What exactly is the difference between the pose method that we have been using recently and the method that has just been reintroduced?

I'm not sure what is the method you've been using recently. Can you elaborate?

    -------------------------

This all sounds pretty good except that it may mean losing the clean view of the model, while animating, that we (almost) get when doing it in a choreography! I'll have to experiment with making standard Poses with the FACE. I think someone had issues with this a few pages back.

    I don't follow.

One more thing. It would be really useful to be able to copy the data for just the FACE controls that are wanted and do it in one step, which is why I suggest a set of check boxes or something similar. I don't know how to copy just the FACE control bones' data with a single copy/paste. I'll have to look at the hierarchy.

If you copy from an action or pose that only has Face control animation that is all that will be pasted. So I'm not sure this feature is needed. Checking a bunch of check boxes wouldn't be one step.

Once we've used the existing features some, we may come up with some tricks/features to make it easier, but for now lets get a clear procedure before we start adding features to improve that.

We'll figure out a workable procedure I'm sure.

Thanks for working through this with me.

  8. This could be done using a Dope Sheet if the proper dictionary was set up...it would mean adding the desired poses to each character as well.

Yes, David, that would be one way to do it but you would need to have two dope sheets active and working in harmony, one for the mouth shapes for dialogue and one to add the blocking for the facial expression. To do it with one dope sheet would be difficult because, in allowing for a range of emotions, you would need to provide phonemes for every emotion. The way that I imagine providing reusable emotions would use either two action sequences, one for emotion and one for lip-synching, or one dope sheet and one FACE action as follows:

    1) Make a list of all the facial expressions that would be needed to display a full range of emotions.

    2) Make a new action and set up all the facial poses in your list. Spacing them out will allow some automatic in-betweening which can generate some added variation to your pose list. You could, however, do it all on ones if you prefer.

    3) Save this Action with a suitable name such as, 'Nimmie_FACE.act'.

4a) Create a new Action, or choreography, to do your lip-syncing in and add your character and FACE rig. Expand the FACE properties and set the path for 'FACE Poses' to your Face-actions file. In this case it would be 'Nimmie_FACE.act'. Perhaps this could be done with a drag-drop or drop-down menu.

    OR

4b) Do the lip syncing with a dope sheet and drop this action onto your character in a choreography.

    5) Go back through your choreography and key the FACE rig by selecting the face pose you want with a slider and pressing a 'Key FACE' button on key frames. The slider would treat the Action file as a sort of Pose and would copy keys from any control bone that had a checkmark against it. In this way you could avoid overwriting your mouth poses but could include them for poses that didn't include dialogue. Or perhaps the dope sheet action could be given precedence over the emotion action.

    6) On the second pass you would go in and manually tweak anything that needed it.

Uhm. It's starting to sound like more work than it is worth but in practice, and with a tweak to the interface, I think it could save alot of time with blocking expressive faces.

    Just a thought, anyway.

    My two cents.

    Two things going on here.

    A) Reusing canned facial expressions in a shot.

A1) You could use this Face.act to copy and paste keys from, into where you are animating.

A2) You could instead of Face.act, make poses for the canned expressions and use pose drag drop to get the expressions into the shot (recently reintroduced version 8.5 feature). This seems to have some issues, I'll look into them and make sure they are in A:M reports.

I'm sure we can come up with a procedure after we animate a shot or two.

  9. Unfortunately we may have lost some work here.

    I repaired what I could.

I'm not blaming any one here, but I thought I'd do a timeline of what probably happened so we can avoid this in the future.

William Sutton was working on textures

    Mark updated elbow rigging

William 'sent' and conflicted with Mark

    The conflict was resolved incorrectly.

    What could/should have been done.

    A) Mark warned William that he was going to change something, so William could 'send' and wait until Mark 'sent'.

    B) William could have taken his .mine file which would have lost Mark's changes.

    C) the conflict could have been resolved differently.

So I updated the wiki so that conflict files should be emailed to me.

That way I can train people how to resolve conflicts, and we'll have less of a chance to loose any thing.

  10. Lately I'm getting errors when updating my svn folder. I've got the latest version of svn installed.

First try "clean up" from the tortoise menu on the whole local svn folder tree.

If that doesn't work send me a .zip of the parent folder of the errored folder or file.

    Thanks

  11. I want to make a site similar to the layout of the TWO Movie Project Wiki website, and I wanted to know: who made the website, what they used the make the website, whether what the used with PC compatable, and how they uploaded it onto the Hash Wiki.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :D

Will can probably set you up one at wiki.hash.com when he gets back Monday.

  12. Alright still no luck with SVN.

I have a couple screenshots of what I'm seeing that might help.

    --clip

I don't see a teresanord or TeresaNord signin name in the community database. Either the community server was messed up, or you signed in incorrectly, or a firewall on your computer isn't allowing communication to the server or....

If you want you can email me what you want your user name and password to be and I'll try setting it up here for you. noel atsign hash.com

    ps

I blacked out your serial number in the image above.

    Thanks

OOO ill still send you my snap shots but could it have been that i was trying to recieve all the files even tho i said i would only select a portion of it?

Thats probably it. Let me know what you find out.

  13. Well make sure you Undock the community panel (this really wont solve your problem but will make sure animation master doesent just crash)

for some reasone we have to do this with Alpha 10, not sure why, the problem i keep having is it doesent recive my files.....i keep trying but no luck...

email noel atsign hash.com screen shots of your tools options svn page, and the repository url dialog.

I'll try and help you figure it out.

  14. Okay, here's the deal.

    - I installed Tiger 10.4.5 on my imac G5

    - Then I installed v13 alpha 10

    - I opened AM and tried to use my user

name and password from the forum, but

it didn't work, so I tried creating a new one

    - I then received a pop up message that said

I needed to register my software first, so I

filled out all of the registration tabs and hit ok

    (this ended up doing nothing)

    - I then figured it didn't work because I don't have

SVN, so I went to the SVN walkthrough and

followed the instructions, as far as I know I

followed them correctly, but now I can't even open

AM all I get is this error message. . .

The application Animation Master quit unexpectedly.

Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.

    any suggestions?

Hmm not sure, I sent a link to this message to steve will and ken. hopefully one of them will be able to help you.

You could try holding down the shift key when you start Animaiton Master and see if that gets you anywhere.

You won't have realtime rendering drivers, but you may be able to use that to get into tools, options; to see if you can change a setting that will let you get started.

  15. Here is the error I get:

Task ID is invalid. Unable to display.

As a result, I can't see my shots in sequence. I would really like to see them in sequence.

    I can't repeat this.

Please be more specific about where and what you are trying to sort.

I can go to view project, expand production, animation, act 1, and click the task name link at the top of the colum and it sorted the.

Where What and How did you do what didn't work?

  16. "Update" first, before you "Commit."

I think Mediaho and me are both working on same scene? I am getting error meassages stating a confilct between us for this scene? I have renamed my files with my name in the tittle to get them uploaded I think/hope please advice on how to procede

    See http://wiki.hash.com/two/published/SvnConflicts

If you need help resolving your conflict feel free to email me the .mine and .r123 .r124 (numbers will be different) files.

As a rule you should not upload different versions of a file to svn.

  17. For some Unknown reason, I didnt have thsi problem this morining...when i click on "Tools" "Options" All A:M crashes.....

Just reied it again....it crashes when i click on options, AAfter im done hitting The recieve button on My comunity...

Please submit a report to http://www.hash.com/reports Please attach screen shots of your tools, options, svn tab, and the repo browser dialog. Also attach any other info you can think of that will help repeat this.

    Thanks

I'm ok with SVN now. My trouble seems to have been the fact that the user name and passwords are case sensitive.

    To sum it up:

    --snip--

    -- snip --

    Hope this helps.

    Eric

    Glad you got it working.

  18. Ive downloaded all the nececeary files.....and when i try to log into the comunity tab, it pops up with this...

Sign in name does not exist....am i sopposed to use something other than my Forum name and password?

Yep unfortunatly community signin is seperate for now. You can use the same name and password, but you need to register.

You also need to send a signin name and password to willp@hash.com so he can register a svn signin for you if he hasn't already.

Three seperate systems that haven't been made to share the same password database yet. Dotproject and the forum have been made to work together though.
