  1. Well we will have to see when Casshern gets here. I'm sure it grossed at least 6 million when opening up in Japan. Dreamworks has a hold of it now, so we'll have to see what they do with it.

I do think the money was vaporized. That film although great could have been done at 1/2-1/4th the cost and look just as good. Finding Nemo= 90 million production 40 million=marketing=130 million

Polar Express 270 million(production and marketing) WOW!!!

I remember hearing on Rush Hour 2 DVD Jackie Chan making fun of US movie making. He said he could have made 5 Chinese movies for the price of 1 of the set builds.

I am however working on my track record, and I guess I would like a ton of money thrown at me. LOL I'll use have and pocket the other half for my team and I. hehehe :D

Well I'm off to give this movie a shot!!! Polar Express here I come.

  2. I'm sure Polar Express is good. However it is a case of spending way to much money on something that could have been done on 1/4th the cost. I mean that is absurd, and when movies like this flop, it makes investors even more careful.

I just think the budget was ridiculous. It has already flopped at box office. I mean $270 million budget on this film. Seriously that is just a shame. How many CG films could have been made with that money. Whoever tossed out that much money I want to get a hold of them and ask for 10 million for my film. LOL. Any animators and artists want to split 10 million dollars 20 ways?

Casshern is a fully digital movie and cost 6 million US dollars to make. It has live actors and cost 6 million dollars in comparison to this cg movie that cost 270 million.

1 quarter of a billion dollars to make 1 movie. Yet some of the greatest movies of all time were made with a 35-75 million budget.

  3. Hang on--are you saying you're going to base your ambitions on the making of a film whose name you don't actually know?

Seriously, though, I support indie filmmaking 100%, but Raimi did a lot more than just send out mail. First of all, he and his friends actually filmed a short version of The Evil Dead to show to prospective investors, with whom they met personally. Second, they were pitching a low-budget horror movie in 1980. At that time, with the proliferation of VCRs and video rental stores, low-budget horror movies were like a license to print money. That's why there were so many of them back then.

A guy with a spare million dollars lying around is only going to invest in "movie X" once you convince him that:

"Movie X" can be made for a million dollars.

"Movie X" will generate more than a million dollars in revenue.

"Movie X" can be made by you.

It's as simple as that. It helps if you're friends with a bunch of millionaires, but that's a whole other topic.

I was being lazy and just writing in generals and using an example. I know what went into making a movie, but in a nutshell he did in fact do that. WE don't have to go into specifics and details on everything, it was just a quick thought

  4. Exactly!!!

We just need to find contacts who'll put 50,000 to a 1 million into us and we could definately get something done and pay for itself in no time.

Anyone have some contacts we can get this thing started. I've already gotten prices, I have 200,000 and I can get my film the way I want it done completely, quality and everything. Amount of characters and the full 90 minutes. Someone throw me a bone, lol.

I'm going to do like Sam Raimi did when making Army of Darkness or the pre-movie to that one. He just sent out mail to all the rich folks in the area looking for funding. .....

Hmmm if they will throw 165,000 at Zemekis for this, hmmmm?

  5. I was just noticing that it took 165 million dollars to make the recent "Polar Express" aka "Children of the Corn Go on a Train Trip" or "Zombie Express"

Now just thinking ahead I feel that movie opening weekend will gross 12 million tops this opening weekend.

I hope they prove me wrong. But really do you think it will do that well. I always wondered where people get there funding to make these things?

Can you only imagine taking 165 million and splitting it on this website among 20 or 30 small groups. How many movies of similiar quality could be made.

I mean seriously I wish we had a large animation fund where we could split it up. If only Hollywood would take a smaller risk and give the money to those like us on this forum to make a film

What could you do with 1-5 million dollars in 4 years?

Seriously it seems the more technology there is the more expensive things get. I thought 3d would be cheaper. How does Hollywood explain these prices? Oh well, just a thought wishing they would give me 1 peice of that million and see what we could do.

That would be awesome. Take 10 of the best HASH users, pay them 100,000 each and give them 1 year and I bet they could match this easily.

    Just my rant

12 million is my guess on opening weekend 39 million through it's stay at the box office.

My second guess is 20 million and overall box office 52. Don't ask me how or why I think this but let us see how close.

ADMIN I put this in the wrong forum, can you put it over to the general

  6. Dude you are definately ready for the Discovery Channel or possibly the Sci Fi channel.

Nice smooth animation, and the sound was great. I think realistic animation however is a gamble. This may very well fit in at SCI Fi easily. It is better than half of the stuff they have.

  7. I'm all about staying indie until the better deal comes.

If you make it they will come or so it may seem at times.

DVD production is lower and technology is cheaper. I say do 1 or two episodes yourself with your team, then break a 30 minute episode down into 5 parts and get it out on the web for all to see. 30 minute compiled series of 5 minute peices. Kinda like clone wars, if in fact that is what you are wanting to do is a series. I'd make a series out of one and get exposure.

www.ninjai.com is a good look at exposure. Then there is atomfilms, ifilms, etc.

homestarrunner.com is a group of folks making a living off their creation. Just an idea.

Merchandise and DVD's, EXPOSURE. Make it for yourself and for fun and see if they will come. Just a thought. If it is good they will come.

Ala Atomic Betty. Fish it around

Join the NAPTE to get more friends in the circle, etc. I don't know, we'll see if all my wind works in action here pretty soon.

  8. This is cool, to bad we can't buy them in sections though, bleh!!!

    :P

    I want only this

Bill Young: Advanced Material Creation and Use

    Klee Miller: Cutout Style Animation

    and this

Using Hair Systems to Create Feathers

A water tutorial would be nice too and maybe how to do surf or something, and landscape, ooooohhhhh me want.

    CD does look good though.

  9. $100 dollars eh? Well it is your choice, all in all have fun and don't quit a project. I understand how folks can get bored real quick

When doing props and the market A:M has please consider a lower price. Considering it is a stock model.

Just to give you an idea, the lower the price the more in bulk you will sell.

I have a friend as a prime example doing this and he has it set at 2 differant prices. 1 very good model for Lightwave and Max users which he is selling for $100 dollars + but the Poser version he sold for $20.

Well at the 100 price he only sold around 4 which is a nice 400 US$. But turning around and selling it for 20 for the Poser market he sold over 100 units. Do the math. 2,000 US$ and they are still selling like hotcakes. And while in the Poser market he can add clothing and upgrades to the character and charge more and more with little or no extra modelling.

Some may tell you charge $100 dollars, that at that point in may be worth your time as opposed to selling it at $20. But think in bulk. 20=larger bulk $100=less bulk

$20 will get your average hobbyist as well as your pro if the model is good enough, but it would make it accessible to everyone. From the kid who asks his parents for it, to the artist who after buying the needful setup tool only has 20 bucks left, to the pro who needs to populate a background scene.

I'm sorry I'm just thinking marketting, sales, and the fact that when you finish this fun project, I would like to buy it but not at 100$ bucks. That is an A:M or Setup Upgrade. hehehe!!

    Either way, have fun!!!!

I'm sorry for the industry analysis and such. I'm more marketer and a cheap skate than an artist. LOL.

I want it cheap and the cheaper it is, and the market it is in...well the more it would sell, and more fun for folks to get a hand on it. Less temptations for others to steal, etc. Plus other competition in other areas, etc. Well just some friendly advice for the heck of it. Thanks for reading and sorry for rambling

  10. hehehe well have fun!!! Have lots of fun doing what you love. We understand where you are coming from!!!

Anzovin, setup tool is AWESOME!!! That is worth more than $100 dollars. It's a tool to add to the tool in A:M.

That price is reasonable and affordable.

As far as a stock model however, it is slightly differant considering the competition and other venues.

I beg to differ however on the Poser thing. In the right hands any tool can be deadly. Poser it itself with the bland stock models is not an animation machine, but combining it with, say...wings3d or zbrush(custom modeller or morpher) you can get great results and in half the time. Just has to be in the right hands. Case in point this cute little film made almost entirely in Poser.

    http://www.soulhill.com/

Clay is clay, but in the hands of Harryhausen is a horde of skeleton warriors, a kraken, etc.

  11. I'm suprised no one has wrote about this one yet. Maybe I should have done as well.

Does everyone on this sight know about Magical Play and URDA?

Thats awesome, I'm going to have to get it. It really shows us what A:M can do in a DVD release!!

Can't wait to see it :D

  12. Just make sure to keep the price reasonable. So many folks have off expectatoins.

In other words why pay a 100 dollars for your character when an updated subscription of A:M costs $99 dollars?

Why pay $100 dollars for your model when I can pay $130 for Poser and have 300 models? And then pay 10-30 dollars for hi res models with 100s of morphs?

Just remember to know your market. Many here are hobbyists and such, and hobbyists seem to be the ones who would most like to buy your product.

Here is a good business example and a person who makes good money doing this

    https://www.poserproducts.com/catalog/

Please contact him and see if you could join forces with him in this regard and actually setup A:M shop. He has a lot of traffic and is a great guy to work with.

Just a thought on marketting and maybe going to find someone who has marketted well.

  13. I would definately like the phone number to all 3 so I can pitch to them, hehehehe, nah but tell all if you can, from how you got the contacts, to how you went about your pitch.

Shoot why not record your pitch to the A:M communtiy and we can put it up at A:M Films. That would be awesome and give your project a buzz!!!
