  1. Tony Lower Basch is the person who did it.

Hey Smudge!! I would pimp your work as well cause I just love it. Yeah I saw that on AM films, but he has another one!! YAY!!!

Did you notice there is a part 2, and it is 30 minutes long. That is awesome. I mean the animation is not the greatest, but it has a quaint feeling to it, plus its a finished peice which is really awesome.

A whole 30 minute episode, that rocks!!!

    Nice story.

Dude you are awesome. People like you and smudge are an inspiration. Great work. I applaud you!!

Why he didn't post this yet is unknown but searching around I found this animation. The artist's first animation is on AM films, but this one is a mind boggling 30 minutes long. WOW!!!

We need more of him around. Great work and I enjoyed it!!!

I want to see more of your work

30 minutes. Who said a film should take 20 years and never get done. He proved that theory wrong.

Great job to whoemever made this animation

  3. www.belino.net

    www.e-onsoftware.com

I hate to do this, but here is another option that would make your work 10xs faster and better looking.

Check out Belino to see what can be done, and then go to e-onsoftware and get what you need to do this. I know it is not an A:M result, but this community is helpful and I think bringing more tools into your fold will help out tremendously. You could do your raven flythrough in here easy. Animate in A:M then superimpose in VUE's scene. Just a thought.

You'll be done in no time in this manner.

  4. Well expect to pay a wide array of costs.

I myself and am in your position. I have been quoted several differant quotes and have found one I can afford.

Here are some steps to finding a modeller and various ways.

You could get collabers for free. Simply tell as many about your project as possible. Let them in on the project as a partner. Sometimes if you include them in any future profits or other you can indeed find someone to help you out. I have been successful in finding collabers and based on merits if any product is turned out they will get a cut. Merits meaning (amount of work they did, not going to cut the collaber who modelled a simple vase the same as I would the guy who helped model the cast of characters)

You could save up for it and find someone at a reasonable price. Say for example you save up a 100 dollars. Let folks know you have only 100 dollars and this is what you need. Some folks will do it for a low price because, well they are going to model anyways for fun, might as well make a buck or two out of it.

You could also outsource!! I know it is an evil word. But if you can't afford that US based modeller who charges 3,000 dollars a model or 100 dollars an hour, then you can go to our bretheren overseas who live in a country will your 1 dollar will equal 10 of theres. More bang for your buck. This is a world market now, your location or country does not measure your talent. Some countries are cheaper to live in than others. House in US cost 100,000, same house in Mexico costs 9,000, do the math. I actually almost moved to Mexico once after I heard about this 9,000 dollar hacienda by a waterfall and 10 acres. Same house here in Austin, TX 250,000 dollars. So for that pro modeller, rigger, etc. you get here for 100 dollars an hour, you could get a comparable pro overseas for 100 dollars the entire model.

I would suggest though saving up a bit, then approaching folks and at least give them some earnest money. You know. Hey want to collab, I don't have much but I can give you this. That sometimes opens the playing field how you approach folks and at least try to offer something.

Share your work and promote your story. You'd be suprised about finding collabers in your endeavors. A little money is also always appreciated. Keep your collabers happy.

I know this is long winded but it does work and I've seen it work. Be polite, professional and gracious!!!

by the way, this will be shown on my upcoming dvd "HOW TO" dvd with my movie!!!

  5. That is my favorite part actually. I'm more of an animator myself, and director.

There will be examples of an animatic and cool little section how I went about making the animation.

It will include video on that very thing. So animation will be touched. It will be less model orientated, more production setup, and how to get from point a to point b.

I do want to show you the challenges I went through and am going through. For example my lack of modelling capabilites with splines. Takes too long. How did I overcome that and how I found folks who could help. It will go into a lot, especially on the animation side of things.

This is something I've been planning a long time and saving up to do. So I hope you will enjoy when I am done.

Any more suggestions would be nice. Keep em coming, this is a chance to get something you would want in a dvd.

  6. Hey all. Work is underway on my indie animation. I was wondering what you would like included in the How-To portion of the movie.

So far as outlined I have the opening

    1) My history and why I did it.

    2) Character designing and story

    3) Finding tools and collabers

    5)Storyboarding, Rotoscoping and Animating.

    4) Sound FX, tools and shortcuts.

Just wondering what else to put in or should I change the outline. What would you future filmakers and current filmakers like to see in a HOW TO make an Indie Animation? Suggestions would be great.

This video is for amateurs and middle skilled. I know there are a ton of super guys here who do it all the time, hehehee. I'm not one of the super men, just a guy with the desire to tell a story and finally the means to tell it, I want to show how everyone can do it. Let me know what you'd like to see.

  7. Current update:

Currently I'm working on the outline for the "HOW TO PORTION" of the movie.

You see the major part of the dvd is how a "Low talented guy" (in the modelling and drawing department) can make a movie with a slight budget and powerful software, and a good story.

It is especially geared for those folks who want to tell a story but just don't have the ultimate modelling and rigging skills of the pros. And how to make a movie on a budget.

Much of the video is commentary on how we created the video, how contacts and helping hands were found, etc. And how it could been done in a super budget!!!

There are going to be special rotoscope scenes, where my friends and I will act out the cartoon and copy movements for animation. How I searched for voice talent, etc.

I really wanted to make a video that would inspire more filmakers. I think the low production small teams thing is the way to go in the future, and a way folks can make a living doing what the love, instead of the evil day job of doom.

Because personally I want to stop being the Corporate Slave by Day and Animator by night.

I want to be the animator by day and a sleeper at night and make a living on my own characters, dreams and STORIES!!!!

I appreciate all the replies on my project as this keeps me encouraged.

  8. You know what? Bryce sucks!

It looks so fake, I mean I have turned out some good things in Bryce and it is easy to use, but it still has a sort of fake look to it, no matter what you do with it.

check out Vue D Espirit 4 or 5

www.e-onsoftware.com Looks real and just as easy to use yet looks more professional. I like all the cool camera controls. The redererer is pretty good and fast.

Why not just do it all in Animation:Master?

There was nothing I saw that couldn't be done in A:M.

The big reason I think it would be in your favor to do it that way is the streamlined workflow that you could expect; and essential for episodic film.

I agree with one thing, why are you going back and forth from Lightwave and such. I would use Vue and render backgrounds and such there. Its quicker and more powerful than Bryce.

Now I do understand using a 3rd party program especially for backgrounds. Its just faster. Why model everything from scratch, when you can use wonderful shortcuts to tell your story as fast as possible.

I'm planning 2 similiar films. The first one will use A:M all the way through. The 2nd one will be modified Poser characters and custom made Poser characters and Vue. Simple reason being is both will be on DVD and both will show how to make a movie on almost no budget aside from a computer and cheap software.

Flogtales has less characters for the first episode

Kalimar on the other hand has a whole village. I'll just quickly modify several characters and make an entire village of folks, plus some custom made figures. I'll have an entire army, none of which look the same.

Shortcuts are great for getting a full film done.

  9. Yeah I'm definately trying to get Carsten in on this one. Problem is after the comic we did together he has had numerous job offers and such, and working on his own comic now and he is a busy beaver.

I hope we can work together again, he is a great artist. His mattes would throw this into a very professional level of movie.

I can animate pretty fast and should be done in 6 months with the first 10 minutes.

Hey if anyone wants in on the project, or can spread the word around we are doing this project. I'm personally fitting the cost for DVD production. Any profit though will be traded out amongst the group, based on merits, how much you put into the film type thing.

Many are skeptical of the whole group collabing thing, but I am not. I've been planning this for too long, and too hard, since I was a child and now I have the means to do it. This is my life's little dream to make a movie and tell a story. Basically this project will work perfectly with a little help here and there from collabers. Most of all the other work I'm confident will get done, cause I'm doing it myself. So if anyone wants to contribute and has the skills please step up!!! I'd love to work with you.
