1. So for a non-spherical head, for this to work, you might have the bones guiding the mouth off centre, to that the arc of their movement runs along the surface of the face of the model in question? (I think that made sense... ) I tried something similar with one of my characters recently and found that the smile action pinched in the cheeks, due to the spherical arc of the bone movement pulling the cheek in as it continued to rotate. I might try it again though, with the axis of the bone guiding say.. the right cheek , off to the left side of the head and a bit deeper in resulting in a greater arc than if it was in the middle of the head, so that when it is rotated it still follows the surface of the face..... That may or may not work (I'll have to play around with the idea), but regardless this thread has been very useful Victor, thanks!
2. Hi Victor, Beautiful test! How long did it take to animate that 'rough little animation'?
3. Thats a beautiful shot Darklimit. Nice work!
4. Thanks chaps! I appreciate the comments. Zach! I'll get right on it. I'll upload it straight after work today. :-)
5. If people are interested I've updated my website with images of my latest character. She's rigged, smartskinned and textured. I still need to add specularity, bump, diffuse maps, and a ponytail etc , but thats down the track. http://www.shaunfreeman.com/wip.htm Click on the link to 'characters', and the 'Cuckoo Mother'. NOTE: Different character to the 'Wren Mother' which I have posted previously I've also updated a few other bits and pieces on the web page. Any thoughts that people have would be great.
6. If you didn't have to export it you could try animating it using the dynamic constraints system? Great character Colin!
7. A while ago a few said they would be intererested in reading about how I am going about making my short film the cuckoo, and asked if I might put a diary, wireframes and other developmental stuff for the project on my website. As a result I've updated my website with a diary, wireframes, info on how I textured my characters, etc..... http://www.shaunfreeman.com/wip.htm Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Cheers Shaun
8. Nice work. I'm interested to see the animated version, as the effect looks like it will be great.
9. The model goes without saying. I do have to mention the lighting. I really like the setup. The blue backlight is a nice touch.
10. Parlo. I really like your style of character. They're all a little sort of 'off' in a fascinating way. I dunno what it is but the characters, (particularly the old guy) kind of rope me in and I want to keep looking at them! Beautiful stuff!
11. Jim, ........ You're an inspiration! I LOVE the character!!!
12. IIIIIIII LIKE IT!!!! (Quote from Robocop). He's great! I agree with Parlo. He does look like ED209. Which is GOOD! He was a cool/bad robot!!
13. Wonderful stuff Jim. As always you're an inspiration!! Shaun

Photon Room

Supurb Yves. Particularly the first image as I almost feel I can walk into the room and put on those shoes.... (I have big feet)
15. Thanks! I'll do that (post to cgtalk). The music is Maceo Parker (a wonderful saxophonist who I think plays on a lot of James Brown albums) Thanks for the comments people! :D Shaun
16. Thanks!! The daggy bird dancing is based on my own pathetic dancing skills, so I appreciate all the comments re: his dancing abilities. :D With regards to the compression, I've now uploaded a sorenson 3 codec version. (I just like the On2 compression because the quality of the picture is much better), but you're right, I want people to see it, hence the sorenson 3 version. The link is still the same: http://www.shaunfreeman.com/wip.htm Shaun
17. I'd be interested in peoples thoughts on the little clip I have posted on my website. I'm currently making a short film for both enjoyment and education, so any feedback on the trailer I have created would be great. trailer link Click on the 'teaser/trailer' link. Its a 10.4 Mb quicktime file using the On2 Vp3 codec Cheers Shaun Freeman
