  1. Thanks to Gene "The Spleen" for starting the "Ball" rolling, and Matt "Bigboote" for taking the helm.

This project has pulled me into A:M like nothing else had.

I'm past being intimated, and will be doing a new project of some sort or other fairly soon just for the fun of it.

Unless I have a relapse, I'm done tweaking and this my absolutely last and positively final, this project is complete, over, done, fini, ain't no more, no way-no how, render.

Thanks Again to all who helped when called upon. This Forum ROCKS!

  2. Evidently if you hang around this forum long enough you become susceptible to "tweakit" disease.

I changed a couple of things and warmed up a light to give Nigel a little more color. then when setting up the render, I decided to render directly to QT. I'm going to render this clip to AVI and convert it to QT just to see if the conversion program is messing with the color. A sure sign that I've contracted the disease.

Is it terminal? Here's the new render:

  3. I learned a tremendous amount of various things doing this project, But I had to do it, I wanted to legitimately be eligible to buy and wear one of those damn T-shirts.

The colors in Nigel's face were a lot warmer in the avi render, but the conversion to Quick Time washed them out and made him look grey.

  4. It's interesting, when I hit the keyframe button when I made a change in the "shortcut to" transparency the object became transparent but the image did not. But when I made the transparency change and did not hit the keyframe button, the object and the decal became transparent and a keyframe was entered in the timeline below the window.

Regardless, it is now doing what I wanted it to. On to moving things around.

  5. I'm learning a ton on this project.

I made a backdrop and put a jpg decal on it, constrained it to the camera with Translate and Orient Like (with offsets) and got the effect I wanted. However I want it to fade out to invisible for about 60 frames then fade back in. How do I go about this? Do I use transparency in the object, the shortcut to the object or something else entirely?

EDIT: I got the backdrop to become transparent in the "shortcut to" but the decal itself does not become transparent, and I can't find anywhere to make the decal transparent.

  6. Edit: (read your description again) Unless the movement only happens during that second point of view... where we never see the movement between the body and hand. In that situation I'd constrain the camera to the ball. then the ball would appear motionless even though you were actually moving the hand closer to his face. you could do that in either FK or IK

You would only see the movement in the reflection in the ball. the camera is already "aim at" constrained to a null which is centered on the ball. The camera is also constrained to a path ready to begin a "sweeping dolly pan" which takes place after Nigel takes a closer look at the ball. Nigel holds pose form frame 0 to frame 10 Only the camera moves. Between frames 10 & 1:10 only the ball & hand are in frame. During these frames, I wish to be seen Nigel's reflection leaning in for a closer look, then moving back to his starting point, just as the sweeping dolly pan begins.

His movements will only be seen in the reflection of the ball.

    0:00:00 Begin Pan

0:00:10 End Pan Camera still until 0:01:10

    0:01:10 Begins sweeping dolly pan

  7. I'm working on a pass my PTB entry. I have Nigel in this pose. I've successfully stretched out the keyframe sequence to give me a two second pause, during which I want Nigel to hold the ball steady (camera"Aim At Constrained to Ball) while in the reflection we see Nigel lean forward for a closer look, then move back to his original position. How do I get His hand and the ball to freeze in position when the rest of the body moves? Thanks

  8. Nancy,

Gene prefers to render to AVI for posting to u-tube. He sent me the AVI and I used "AVS Video Converter 6"

to convert it to QT format, then sent it back to him. I don't know why but the QT vid played a little darker than the AVI for me on my computer as well. I believe Gene is experimenting with lighting as we speak. I also noted that the file size is quite different. AVI> 14.3 Megs, QT>2.04 Megs

  9. Rob,

As I said in my 'Camera Actions In Chor' post. Your keyframing tutes helped me over a major hurdle in getting control. Having two tutes did give more perspective. When I first got A:M I was expecting a more linear learning curve and step by step instructions, but Animation Master is such a deep, comprehensive, and profound program that it has to be learned in it's own way. It took a while for me, as a newbie, to understand that.

All of your tutes communicate information clearly and concisely. Nancy's right, a person just has to mess with stuff to make progress. Your tutes give us a basic starting point. Because of A:M's complexity if you were to make comprehensive tutes they would be ponderous instead of simple (Which is what us newbies need) and not nearly as penetrating.

Don't get frustrated with us. Just make more.

    Thank You Robcat,

    Myron
