  1. In 3d animation --render spreed is so crucial. Taking each frame and multiplying the savings per frame over a 4 minute short is one thing. But factor in the amount of renders never used but needed to be done and you can see how amazing that kind of speed bump that Simon indicates would make you very happy to acheive.

    Kudos to Steffen !!!

  2. I think AM might have one of the friendliest and helpful forum communities going ---so it is a little odd that there are not more folks being active here. Some days there is not even 20 different folks posting. So yes it would be great to somehow get more folks back into the fold. Or increasing new folks use.

I think this thread has a few good ideas for Hash Inc to think upon. In the end its their company for real.....we just play software application owners on TV.

  3. Indeed a sassy model, Steve. Now you are trying to walk with high heels (So degree of difficulty is 1.5) but most of what is started there looks pretty good. It does seem the last step with the left leg is crossing over a tad much towards the right leg but it might be just the angle.

  4. I am glad to hear Sebastian that you have contacted Gerald who is contacting Jason----Hopefully they take you up on your kind offer. I think a lot of David's impressions on websites and appeal they may or may not have with prospective buyers ring very true. And working on fixing a few things here might be very helpful in getting more folks to try AM.

Which by the way ---I wonder if Hash Inc knows that Steam now sells software on thier massivley popular web portal. There are about 15 software packages --- 3d coat, art rage, gamemaker ,rpg maker --to name a few up for sale. Now I have no idea what the terms are , or cut for steam and not sure a subscription model can even work --but I do know its a portal of millions of gamers and some of these folks surely would have a interest in AM. Just a thought while we are running Hash Inc for fun . Smiles .

  5. David , your post does not strike me as too blunt ---most of what you say rings of truth. All the Blender things you say are true but I do not think AM should/could even focus too much on Blender or even trying to compete with it per se. Its films have budgets and are worked on by many folks. They also have been significantly shorter in length than the 2 AM Films if we are comparing.

Could the AM community stalwarts whip out a "Sintel " (the third Blender movie) given a strong effort? --- I am going to have to say with the caveat of there being some rendering, effects limitations in AM - Yes

In fact , I agree with you on the premise that these shorts attract users. And it would be a good thing to promote something along those lines but as we have seen in this thread there are many reasons another community like movie project would be very difficult to get going at this time. (Although -----trying to work on a shorter 10 -15 minute one would be so much more a wise move if anyone wanted some advice)

That said ----it seems to me , one of the biggest problems AM has is raising up the skills of the cringeworthy. Being there myself I can speak freely and agree with you our numbers are legion.

But where I disagree with you ----is that its the web portal here that would have to be the core spot for a better focused learning/user experience right now. Once a bigger core grows --then some of the other things Blender has going on will slowly develop to.

  6. We need tee shirts with AM logos ablazing. Then we need to wear them everywhere. advance the usership one person at a time. And I am only half joking here.

Animation Master is unique and really not like Maya or Blender ---its has a very focused approach for CA and it has splines so it is very different than anything else --------just have to get more folks to try it and see for themselves. But as I soapbox some -----there really needs to be an effort to make learning and continued learning ---------a mantra for the community. Many do get frustrated by the splines and leave even before they get to animate anything much - this is the group you really need to hang onto and develop.

  7. This forum is indeed a gem and a very valuable asset to the community indeed. A web based magazine of AM would be more purely a magnification and spotlight on the peoples and the projects -and with a focus of highlighting some techniques and tutorials for new and old users alike.

And Rodney-----never let your dreams fade away no matter how long you have to wait.

  8. I think bringing more people to a AM web site is half the issue and true its not so easy to do ---the other is you want to provide a very nice look and feel and a place that folks will be able to "get into " AM maybe a little more easily than is provided right now. Building up the user base is not going to happen in a short time frame no matter what you do given the restraints of $. But a newer website certainly would not hurt.

AM is unique. Am is inexpensive. AM is relatively easy to use. AM is relatively powerful. --------It should be more known. It should be more used. Its just a tad more expensive than open source for the one year subscription so its not like some of that audience cannot be acquired if it was known by more folks.

  9. In a odd way I sometimes prefer print tutorials ----- a video magazine with a bunch of hash fellows would be cool too but a web magazine devoted to AM now that's an idea that would be another one of those little helpers to increase AM user ship.

There is a web magazine for Carrara which is another non big boy 3d application by Daz-its done by users and it highlights the good things you can do with the software and a lot of gallery pics. It would not be a bad thing to emulate in my opinion.

  10. I for one --would think that update to the website might help a little to increase Animation Masters initial purchase base and maybe increase the number of active users at the same time . More active users instills more confidence in the software's value which brings on more initial purchases which bring on more active users and you get the general idea.

Smiles. Oh how easy it is - (As if it was).

  11. I think Mark maybe be right up to a point , but I would suggest that there is a significant upside for AM to gain before a lot extra effort would be required. And this extra revenues could help for both enriching Hash Inc and helping fund some more development perhaps or at least maintaining what goes on now.

Plus even more importantly folks would have a better experience with AM with upgraded web site especially if it can highlight training and galleries. Here is what you can do- here is how you may be able to do it.

Now that said ----Gerald ---the current web site work you have done here has been very good for all of us. And thank you for that effort. Smiles.

  12. I would enjoy a ride on either version. Awesome work in both cases Rodger . now if you twist my arm and make me pick ----yep 2013 looks better. But if they were not side to side ----independently I would have said ---wow --nice job.

  13. Sebastian,

I think a lot of what said is true- well its very true for you as these were your thoughts before you knew about AM. I think it would be a big step forward to enhance the look of the website and Logo although its been kind of iconic at this point.

I can vouch for its hidden exposure in the 3d world. I have heard many times in other 3d forums things like "I did not know Animation Master was still around" or "They still make that?" etc. So it does have a slight recognition factor. So getting a little more light on the software would certainly help. I do not think at this point Hash has any or much resources to be advertising alot. One small thing though we all can do to help is include in your signiture in other 3d or design or animation forums something about AM. Even if you just list it with things you use or have etc. This at least may get folks to check it out.

I think if some of the more accomplished (good) AM folks would post a little more on you tube etc that might get more folks to see what it can do in the right hands and yes it can be used as a professional tool --see it right here in use.

I mean hands down --no question , no debate ---its price is untouchable by only open source software. Its functions and capabilities are certainly more than adequate for a lot of peoples work and ideas. So in many ways it is the hidden jewel of 3d .

The other facet --as has been mentioned and is a known item ---is keeping folks using it ie. more and updated training materials. Animation Master is a little different. So it really needs to have a very almost helping hand approach in training -to keep more folks getting better and keep upgrading . I mean its not so cool when one of the most pointed to training materials here is from and for the 2005 version 12.

Now a few folks have been trying to add more but this really is imho the most critical thing to advancing AM along and growing the use of it.
