  1. Lloyd,

Yes ----I agree ----a reset seems in order considering the mascot contest was way more the focus for many here ---and I would also suggest that unless you get at least 5 (or some other agreed number above that ) videos the contest gets automatically extended one week till you do. And yes please keep doing these --- I will try to get something done if you extend it. I think these contest will get a lot of good work and learning done through doing them for many people.

Also ----remember although only a few folks may eventually submit ---tens of folks probably are trying and just ran out of time or did not think their stuff was good enough to post. So do not judge participation by folks who actually submit something I am certain there are a multiple of others out there.

    Thanks

  2. I am sure a lot of folks like me who do not currently have the skills to make a mascot -------eagerly awaiting to see what all you wonderful folks sent in. Indeed just from who posted here --this is a current hall of fame crew checking in ----- Good vibes for Animation Master indeed!!

Good luck to all you folks !!

    Rich

  3. Wow time flies and other stuff is always getting in the way

--- i think maybe we should have these like 10 days long perhaps -----Seems like a struggle to get working on these in the time frame needed. And I think ending on a sunday is always better as it gives folks the weekend. Actually for my 2 cents I think they should start on a friday and go ten days ---ending on a sunday. That gives 2 weekends and you can have 2 of these a month.

  4. Congrats Sebastian -------well deserved.

Rodney--- very nice compilation indeed. You made the sum greater than its parts and that's fancy math. Smiles.

So doesn't Sebastian get to pick the next contest as well....? Hopefully --I have time to try this time.

  5. Sure getting someone who is professional would be amazing but tricky to get I suppose and doing a play by play as it were would be an added hurdle to make it cohessive.

My own 2 cents on this subject is - Robert H. has a pretty good voice , knows AM very well ,is making some of these videos already and would seem a good voice of AM if he wants to be such as it were.

I realize time to make videos is difficult for anyone but if we are thinking others can make some videos and you want one voice----- Robert seems like a natural fit. And not to be volunteering you Robert------just thinking for easy solutions here. Obviously , you have done some and will do more ofthem -- its more about getting some additional videos made by others and then having you narrate them . Smiles. (maybe I was volunteering you)

  6. smiles. I think everyone here was being good intentioned it sometimes comes off a little sharper in black and white. I think everyone likes the videos --and to comment on accent or any part of a production is fair. I mispronounce words all the time so if i made a video and one of those popped out--smiles . I would go yep that sucked. If you called me out on that i would go. yep that sucked and not get upset. It sucked.

Should the production values be professional if included in the software? Probably yes. I think that is all some folks are saying.

Now that said there is always a place for tutorials that are not up to the professional standards but maybe not connected to the software directly as it were.

And Gerald --any video you make I would be happy to see and watch over and over ---so please do not refrain ---they are really helpful and useful and a great contribution to the community. Thanks.

  7. So getting back to theme of thread -----

Welcome to any of you new forum members or those returning after a absence of a bit. The community really does love more folks saying hi and joining in the conversations. Give it a try. You might get hooked or learn a thing a two or three.

Everyone brings something useful to the community. No matter your level of current skill. The idea of the community is to raise everyone upwards. So come on in and have some fun.

    Smiles.

  8. Indeed the return on your investment is pretty poor . And really ---for art jobs especially like game industry --its all about portfolio and skill not so much where you went to school. So In many ways he paints a cheaper and hence better alternative . Now one thing I was told by one of my prof's in college ---they can beat you , fire you, lay you off . put you in jail but they cannot never take away your diploma ---so there is some merit it gaining one but alas at a less expensive route might be best.

  9. In the end Lloyd is kind of right about cases ----they hold stuff together safely and keep the stuff running cool. Or at least that's the goal. Cool means longer life for computer parts so nothing to be trivial about.

And isn't it just so much fun ordering parts and watching your future computer arrive in waves of seperate shipments of various parts. Smiles.

  10. Here is the thing---its really not important how you run the contests or even how many folks submitted in this one got or that one -----just keep having regular contests. That is what IS important.

The more we do the more folks will find the time during a particular contest perhaps to complete it . Sure they may miss some contest because of the realities of life but --- if there are lots of these eventually everyone will get a chance and you will see the community participation grow if there is a very regular pattern of contest events.

Smiles. Rodney now we need Animation Master contest winner teeshirts. Well AM wear in general. Hell ---that could be a contest too. Designing some teeshirts .Then we just need to get ok from Hash Inc and wander over to Cafe Press and go to town. Actually Cafe Press is in my town. Smiles.

  11. Lloyd,

I do not think that a prize really is an issue ---heck we could just add a little forum badge or something "forum contest winner" --- I think most folks who do this just want to have a little fun and practice on a particular idea --more a push to go get something done and finished perhaps as well......so I would not worry on that issue.

As far as model I think keeping it more uniform makes it leveling the playing field more even as it were but then makes the results less individualistic but for contest maybe best way.

  12. -----Um......I have to disagree with the robert on the case ..... this case has 1 200mm fan and 3 120 mm fans included ---price out those alone and you will change your mind about the price. You will not find that kind of fan array in much lower price cases. An being Antec is going to be pretty nice in the fit and finish department.

darkwing ---just search all the comments for the antec 900 and I am sure someone has used your mobo. In fact I usually try and find someone who I can match compatibilty before I buy anything. So its good to search the mobo comments for your memory too etc . As long as someone has had success with the combo your good to go.

and just to be clear you can go lower on a case --as I said you are not putting in there too much to cause overheating. But try and find one at least with two 120 mm fans if you want to shop lower.

  13. to me ---size of case is inportant but fans are more important in my book. . So acase with more or bigger fans is the way I like to go as to a bigger box . It is easier however working with a bigger case too so that might be a consideration. Really the gpu you selected will be very nice for most games unless you are trying to play on maxed out settings all the time. I would go with one better card then two mediums anyhow if thats where you are headed. but I think you should be very happy with that 660 for most games --smiles

  14. I have built a number of rigs myself ---and see you are shopping the egg....always a good move. Have no big troubles with any of what you have included here -- i might try and go for slightly bigger sdd drive as by the time you load up either windows 7 or eight (which i do not see in your list yet .....I'm guessing your not doing linux (an if it was me I would get 7)) its not that big. and what you have will work fine but 3d folks like those things especially and well you know bigger is better.

Also without a doubt your case is super premuim. You do not need to spend that much ---that case would support like a couple of high end graphic cards and cpu's plus a bunch of drives ---its awesome but a little much for what you are currently putting in there. You have a medium power gpu, one cpu , 1 hd , 1 sdd ,1 blue ray and 16 gb memory---not going to cook up too much heat.

I am a big fan of antec cases and if it was me I would downgrade to the Antec 900 --- its awesome too and you save some $. On power supplies I have had much luck with Antec as well but have used corsairs too with much success. I would look for 600 -700 watts for what you are using here ----do not skimp on the power supply it really makes a difference in the long run.

Im excited man ---nothing like building a new rig. Enjoy!!
