It is peculiar that Animation Mentor teaches Animators... but lets them use wonderfully pre-rigged models. This is also a great example of how 'live' deformers within a rig are so useful.

Not too peculiar. Most animators at the big studios concentrate on animating and are given fully rigged characters too.

The difference is that an animator that understands rigging can better communicate with the TDs and riggers when they run into a problem and resolve those issues quicker.
