Simon Edmondson
With a slightly different form factor that was the optical premise for my low-budget reflectiq Robert Thank you for your link. I'd like to try something similar here but it may take a while to get it set up. I remember reading about the camera Lucida when I was a student but have never seen one. The device you constructed has similarities to the technique used by Aardman on one of their series. they filmed through the glass, and used a compressed scene underneath. It might have been called, "Rex the Runt" (?) it was almost a cult here for awhile. regards simon PS The tributes to Harryhausen yesterday were talking about his use of the splitscreen technique which allowed the actors to interact with his creatures. I think thats partly done with a similar method ?
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted May 8, 2013 Hash Fellow Share Posted May 8, 2013 Harryhausen used several techniques. Mostly he used rear projection: the live actor were shot first, then the film was projected, one frame at a time, on a screen behind his stop motion set. Anytime you see an animated character appearing in front of a live element, that is probably rearscreen work. But he also did other techniques, depending on what the shot required.
