I thought someone had linked to this before, but maybe not... at look at some of the effects production for "Life of Pi"

Fascinating. Movie was a huge money-maker but R&H went bankrupt.

 

I don't think anyone outside R&H knows the real reason for their financial woes. We can speculate however.

Well, short story, R&H was just hired to do the effects, much like a cameraman or grip is hired to work on a film and they don't participate in any profits after that.

My guess is they weren't charging enough because of too much competition from cheaper off-shore houses driving their bids down, combined with over optimistic estimates, and poor cash flow planning.
