how do you export a movie from am with just the object you built over an alpha background?

thanks

Kev,

In the Render to File Settings you must:

1. Select advanced options

2. render it to a format that supports the alpha channel: a tga sequence or a quicktime movie

3. Under Buffers turn 'Alpha' to 'on'

Cheers,

Rusty

that's what i've been doing but it still comes out with no alpha channel that fcp sees; just the ground and a black sky background....

What are you rendering to?

The only Quicktime codec that can hold an alpha channel is "Animation". The codec is set in the "compression " settings. (Avoid "Animation" for all other purposes, however. It makes huge files.)

Targas can also hold an alpha channel.

I don't use FCP, but I know After Effects can ignore an alpha channel if the import settings are not right/
