Heath_Naylor
I made this sword by request from an internet friend. Tell me what you think. [attachmentid=9613] Update [attachmentid=9614]
higginsdj
A reasonable first(?) attempt. A couple of pointers: 1. You need to learn to bevel edges (where appropriate) 2. The handle doesn't look liek something one could obtain a good grip with. Cheers
Heath_Naylor
Right, maybe I should have posted the refrance picture http://www.tokidokijournal.com/anime/berserk/wallpaper02.jpg
zandoriastudios
Good point--bevels would be a waste of time for toon shading to look like the reference. Am I the only person that thinks that there is too much obsessive beveling? throw some chamfers on those edges for a change!!! ;P
Heath_Naylor
chamfers Chamfers? Huh, what are those?

Nosferatu
chamfers Chamfers? Huh, what are those? A chamfer is a flat edge to a corner, as opposed to a bevel which is a rounded edge. I agree that chamfers can work pretty well in a still image, but when objects and cameras are moving around, a rounded bevel will give a much more consistent illusion of depth, IMHO. MattWBradbury
I had noticed your Avatar, just didn't say it. The sward looks pretty good to the reference in shape. The inside of the sward is rounded inlay, not flat. You should add the cloth to the handel. You could either model it or make it a cylendrical projection map. Also, add some metal scratches with decaling just to give it a bit more detail.
