Hi Hashers :

I am making a short* for TV, the bosses asked me to animate a match toothpick burning.. the final version will have one minute.

This is just a test ...

You can view a MOV test in my site ( click on my signature and go to ANIMATION section)

Hi Ken ... Thx for your comment buddy

Is it a composite?

No.. it isnt a composite .. its whole rendered in 25 passes ...

I think the burned stick bends a tad too much though

Ok .. ill fix it in next version ...

I don't think a match burns blue

Here in Brazil, it burns blue in the base of the fire :):)

Thanks again ...

Very cool. I did something similar in v7 for "Boids of a Feather" using streaks and animated materials. You can see it here.

If it still works in v11, I'll try to re-render it not moving. Yours is a lot more detailed and burns all the way down. Nice work.

The match looks great. My only comment is that it burns a smidge too fast, and the flame needs to get smaller and just barely "hang on" to the stick at the end. If you look at burnt matchsticks, you'll see they rarely burn all the way down, they tend to go out at about the 70-80% mark.

I know this is off topic, but Ed I love the boids stuff! I can watch those movies over and over - is the whole thing available somewhere or is it just a series of shorts?
