  1. I use "3d object converter" or "3d win 4". Often I take a prop that Animationmaster can't read, import it into those programs and export it again so it gets fixed. Then magically a prop that would not work in one format will sudenly work in the same format. There is often many different ways for a program to write a model into a particular file structures.

  2. The only approach that I have had that worked was to take high resolution air photos and use pieces of that and the clone tool to make a decal to match what I need. Unfortunately I have yet to find a photo that would provide what I need for anything resembling a closeup. So I am working on making them. Maybe you can use the hair feature to make the your landscape. Then use a picture of it at a large resolution as a decal. Have a good day, Jason

  3. I think a lot of people are missing that there were two batches of Martin minutes posted. Since the second notification of new Martin Minutes came on the same thread. I was suprised by the Peanut Butter Man one. I would expect that at least once he would have mentioned he already bought a copy.

  4. Actually I never had that problem with the mailboxes, just live where it has happened a lot. A 30 foot long Trex prop of mine did go up in a ball of flames. I am replacing it with something that resembles a greek monument. Its made out of concrete reinforced with thick steel. I am also going to put a night vision security camera out there.

  5. People have different skills when it comes to modeling, so a place where people could trade could work. Someone could post something like "Good at modeling landscapes, and have a example. Will model landscapes for character models." Same would work for animating.

  6. Sounds like a interesting idea, I have read that poem before. I think what would really make the story fly is to concetrate on the overall style of the piece. You probably already though of that. A lot could be done with shadows and lighting with this poem.

  7. I do use them a lot. I think its something that will catch on as more ambitious projects are carried out. They are good for when large scale and realism are good. Epic stuff. As with many things they are hard to start out with but with practice become easy.

  8. My theory about why Animationmaster is cheap is that when the great 3d animation companies were formed, many of them were formed with large amounts of venture capital. They had a business model where they needed to show a massive return on investment in theory to attract the investors. They aimed for users of workstations and mainframes. With venture capital firms often the person who started the company loses much of his ability to make decisions. Martin Hash borrowed the money to start his company, this kept the decision making power in his hands so he could make the program he thought would be the future. He always targeted the personal computers. The trend with new revolutionary applications is they usually start at the high end, high price and work themselves down to the average user as computing power goes up. The first company that turns out a program that the average user could use, with results worthy of the greats, cheap wins. What has kept the 3d animation market so competetive in my theory is two reasons. The quality of what is expected from 3d animation has been driven by the movie industry which expects nothing short of the best. There is a great many other markets for 3d animation, from telling childrens stories to commercials. But the massive flow from the movie industry for the very best puts a lot of money in the hands of companies that focus on large crews of people running very expensive programs. With each person carrying out a very specialized function. My theory is this is only a temporary. By Martin keeping the decision making ability in his hands he has kept his program true to the course that will result in the program of the future while others are concentrating on the fads of the moment. Just my theory, I could be wrong. I am usually right with my theories.

/\ this ones a example of a place that has dem data

    www.landvoyage.com

This second site has air photos.

Terrain is just a terrain mapper, now if the object is to make a terrain based on a real location. Then find a dem for the location, put it through microdem, which is free and available at http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/web...icrodemdown.htm

Okay I forgot to mention that part.

In Microdem, load the dem. Right click the picture that pops up, click elevation colors, then colors, then gray scale. Save image as a bitmap. Load bitmap into paint or something else that does the job. Slecet the area you want, delete the rest. Save as bitmap again. Then load Animationmaster, startup terrain and load

the bitmap. Set type to fMm, magnitude to one or greater, and a step with of one and a width of 70. Repeat for step height. Have filter set at make mountain. This makes a instant landscape. Also enhanced AM textures help.

There are some nice trees on animationpitstop.

They have a plugin that converts dems in a model, a dem is a digital elevation model, just search around the internet for them and you would find one for anyplace in the country. Toonnation also has plugins for matierials for landscapes and for skys. Airphotos when pricely matched up with the models works good to. Well ths is good for a very big landscape. There is also a project file with a good model of water on one of the older post. its good when used with a skydome. A sky dome is made by taking a sphere, deleting the bottom have , and applying a cloud decal to the top half with application method checked to clyndrical. The ambiance needs to be set at 100 percent. Terragen is good for producing skys too. You could also just go to eggprops, they have a good landscape but it not free. On the hash web site is a ftp site with some landscape models, they take some searching to find. When applying materials to landscapes it usually helps to set scale down realy low. Applying a decal and set it at repeat has good results. Good Luck.

  11. I was using a water model I got from this thread.

"Ocean surface experiment, plus a free material :)"

The rendering time was huge till I deleted a section of the model that did not show up in the scene. That cut it way down. Of course that could be useless to you, but for all I know you could be doing the same thing I was. Good Luck.

  12. I only did a quick glance of the website. I wonder with the cost of computing power now putting feature length animation within reach of more and more people what the results will be in only a few years.

  13. Thanks, the version 11 worked. I never could pull it off with 10.5. I tried the switching back and forth between the to, it is a good idea. What I was doing was using a old steam locomotive and track as a part of trying to reproduce what a old railroad byway looked likea 100 years ago. I will post the finished pictures in the showcase area. Thanks.
