  1. I just got the upgrade and I couldn't get the matierials to work on props. It looks like what I got was version 10.5r. Do I need to download version 11 for matierials to work on props? Thanks for any infomation.

  2. BAKHTIN, Mikhail, (1895-1975) Russian linguist and critic. He was educated at Petersburg University and worked at Leningrad's Historical Institute (1924), before teaching at the Mordovian Pedagogical Institute (1936) at Saransk, where he was made Head of the department of Russian and World Literature when the institute was made a University in 1957. Bakhtin retired in 1961. He was author of The Dialogical Imagination, Problems of Dostoevsky's Poetics, Rabelais and His World, Speech Genres and Other Late Essays

I don't want to put any words into the mouth of D.Joseph Design, but I doubt if he was quoting Mikhail Bakhtin. Everyone in the world can be accused of misquoting some book out there.

I have only seen the commercials for the show. I don't think it has much of a long term chance on the scifi network. It belongs on the comedy channel next to "South Park".

I have this worry that a great opportunity for 3d animation is going to slip by. A few good succeful 3d animated shows could really make things good for those in 3d animation. The worry is that shows will get on air not for quality or potential, only for there not being expensive actors to hire. Shows that get on air for this reason would be cheap and low quality. They would give us all a bad name.

  3. The hash website has a lot of models but they need to be organized, animationpitstop has a good collection of models but they have not had anything added for a long while. I can't even find MDL bank anymore. I think there is probably plenty enough models out there that have been already made to give the poser content some serious competetion. No one seems to have pulled off putting it all togeather in a form that takes off. Which means there is still the opportunity for someone to be the one who starts the animationmaster equvilant of renderosity.

On the programming note, new low skilled programmers now can be the highly skilled programmers in the future. Getting the ball rolling is a investment in the future.

  4. I like the idea of a model cd, as the steady march of compute power goes on, bigger and bigger project are done. Modeling everything for a forest or a city is a headache. Besides one of the advantages the other 3d animation programs have out there is a large supply of models. A large supply of models come in handy for turning something out on a deadline. AM, has a large following of very independant users, who are used to doing everything themselves. That makes for much greater skill and creativity, but puts us at a disavantage production wise.

  5. With the winner of the image contest becoming a hash fellow, consequently then able to say they are one of the great animators. There is probably more contest entries then usual, Just my theory.

  6. I thought of the same idea myself. I think it is something that will sit around till someone is working on a project that could so use such a plugin, they have to make the plugin. Something like it will be made eventually.

  7. I think what the independant filmmakers need is a special effect company that caters to them. Maybe their is one, and I haven't heard of it. The independant filmmakers could all be sold copies of animationmaster. What about all those who only need a very short special effect here or there. The computer proccessing time is a lot less. Project files could be made for the most asked for effects and reused with simple changes. This would make up for the low pay. They are a customer base that profits can only be made on with quantity. Maybe the problem is finding a good way to market to all those independant film makers.

  8. One possibility would be to make seperate chorographies of the different sections of the city, make a targa of them. Then in a main chorography make a few buildings, and use the premade pictures to put at the ends of the streets.

  9. The robots pose will be sort of like the terminator in the battle scene at the beggining of Terminator 2. A fire will be burning in front of it. The scene has a long way to go. There is going to be a huge flying saucer overhead. A army of robots marching through the streets. The metal frames of buildings is something that the robots are building. The ship is a old paddle wheel boat. The ship needs to be moved so the paddle wheel can be seen. What I want to find out is if the whole overall look works. A picture tells a thousand words. If I wait till the scene is finished to ask. I will have a lot of work to do. I know the perspective is off. I should have been more clear when asking the question.

  10. I am looking for peoples opinion on the overall look of this scene. It is a work in progress. I know the sky needs to have reflections turned off. The houses need decals, etc. I mean just by looking at this scene, what do you think?

  11. myAM, occaisonally someone with alot of ethusiasium attempts your suggestion. I think all the doubts come simply from the lack of success from so many with the same idea. Something that big is reallyt hard to do. Now for the good news. We know A.M. is capable with a lot of work of making a really impressive rendered image. Even with the huge amount of time it takes for a computer to render a show, it can be done. A lot of making a show is knowing what it takes to make a show. A.M. may be in tough competetion compared to the best on the movies, but what if its compared to television. There is a lot of bad animation out there. The movies are not as great as they seem anyway, scully in monsters inc. was very impressive. Can you say that about every creature there? In Ice age, all the sabertooth tigers were really the same model just stretched in different ways. A lot to making a show is knowing all the little details that go in making a show. Knowing where to put the effort at.

If your still interested I have some sets that could be of use. A complete underground complex with many rooms, interior of a spaceship, a town, robots, etc. Have any actors?

What is really needed for this idea to take off is a really good script, I have some ideas if your curious. Any plot would need to show what we have the best of, while minimizing any weakness.

  12. Not using video codec. I tried targas. No difference. I changed which materials I used and thats what greatly reduced the problem. The problem is still there, but greatly reduced. I am just going to hope no one notices. If what causes problems like this could be discovered, I would be greatly interested. Maybe I could salvage the matierial that I had so much trouble then. Good luck Atomike. There must be some little detail that we are missing.
