  1. Hmmm, I don't think that designe would catch on as a sports bike, but a cruiser I can see. It kinda reminds me of the part in batman returns when he has to lean down into the weapons part of the batmobile. Riding so low to the ground and above the top of the wheels would make for a really BIG turning radius.

    All in all its a nice designe, Million dollar product

  2. I started this guy a few days ago. I didn't create it from scratch however. For my learning process, I used already established meshes and changed them to fit what I needed. Only the bracers and boots are my own creation. Anyhow, any and all critics are welcome to aid me in my modeling.

    I still need to add decals with alpha channels to spice up the armor and face features.

  3. I tired doing that while back, never caught on for me. I like to see that kind of random stuff, I mean a teddy bear w/ a spider... :lol::lol:

    It looks nice.

    James

    Edit: Nice, I ment great, I just noticed the texture on the bear and the spider, it looks like a real toy to me. great work. Now i just want to see the bear smash the spider :lol: just kidding

  4. I think its cool that your gonna try and do this. I'm not sure how well a table will sell, but I guess it depends on the model and what the consumers are looking for. I've seen some really high quality models on those sites, some if put next to a real picture would make it difficult to tell which is real. But its cool your starting young, me, well I think its to late for me to become an entrapaneour (or however its spelled).

    Good luck

  5. I am working on a slogan and a poster for the office that I work in, and I am in need of a Soldier model.

    If you have one that is rigged enouph for some posing, can you please let me know?

    Also, if anyone happens to have a model of the Greek Parthenon, and would let me use it...please let me know.

    Thanks

    James

  6. It was just the basic set up from Xtaz's room setup, didn't feel like messing to much with it. The only thing I messed with was moving the lights down and towards the camera.

    But then again, computer graphics is a strange and eerie think..

    Ya know

  7. Well, I got tasked to take pictures of graphics used in todays society. So I did that, then the instructor decided that we should make a flier, or poster or something with our pictures, so this is what came out, I am happy with it.

    And special thanks to the room set up from Xtaz. Thanks for the A (hopefully) :lol:

  8. I would suggest that all of the glass pieces share the same properties. The key is in color, transparency,index of refraction, reflectivity.

    Then you need a backdrop like the one used to photograph the real table. Then spot lights--not skylights.

    Then you need radiosity to simulate the caustics from the glass.

    So instead of having the sides of the glass black, I should just make it the color of the rest of the glass?

    Will the spot lights and radiation compensate for taking away that color?

    Well, I will give it a try, 2 or 3 spot lights? I can only think there were 2 spotlights on all the photo shoots i have seen.

    Okay, enough talk, back to work. The back drop should be the same color and properties of the ground?

    Never set up a real or fake photo shoot, so this is a learning experience for me.

    Thanks for the help.

    One more thing, I only know how to do the fake radiosity, so I guess my first stop is the Radiosity forum.

    Thanks again.

    James

  9. I am trying to get this table

    [attachmentid=15049]

    To look like this table

    [attachmentid=15048]

    Without any pre-made textures or bump maps or anything like that.

    What I have done so far is this

    Hinges;

    White 80% diffuse falloff

    Specular white 3% size 5% intensity

    Reflectivity 25%

    Top and bottom of table top, inner and outer of legs;

    Blue 110% diffuse falloff

    1% roughness 1% scale

    85% transparency

    10% Reflectivity

    Sides of the Table top, sides top and bottom of legs;

    Black

    10% roughness 5% scale

    30% transparency

    5% reflective

    Ground;

    White 100% diffuse falloff

    white specular 7% size 100% scale

    5% reflectivity

    8 skylights 20% intensity, basic set up

    1 sun light to cast shadow

    30cm width

    800cm fall-off

    30% intensity

    2 Shadow rays cast with .05 cm bias 80% darkness

    Any suggestions on how to get it to look more like the real think would be appreciated. I think I provided all the information.

    Thanks

    James

  10. I don't know how many of you have played X-men Legeands, but that game has a great on the fly character selection. Basically it is just a one click, or push of a button and you have another character that is in your party.

    I was also thinking about this game I play online, called World of Warcraft...In this game, you talk to towns people, and they give you quest to do, rather it is defeating a number of one thing, or collecting items to bring to them, and they in turn give you money or items that you need.

    From the other thread where you said Woot would walk around town in the beginning looking for his shovel, I think that would be a cool thing to have...ex

    "Well I could tell you who you needed to see, but first you need to run over to the bread store and pick me up a loaf"

    After you do that, you return "Great, you need to go see Mr. Joe at the wood shop for a handle"

    Again Woot would have to go collect wood for the handle to get made, then on to the black smith, or whatever, just an Idea.

    I think that would set the game apart form say Final Fantasy or something like that where the people only tell you riddles to figure out, instead of actually helping you.

    Well, thats all i got for now....hope that helps.

  11. Hey, I just wanted to say that I was a little to hasty when I got all sore about the forum a few weeks ago.

    Yesterday I used A:M for the first time in like 2 months, anyways, I noticed that it sparked my artistic side, and I did a lot better in my art classes.

    Sorry for the way I reacted two weeks ago, anyways, I hope you enjoy this simple render of 3 spheres.

    The ground for the first one is White with 200% diffuse and 100% reflectivity. The 3 spheres are 75% transparent and 100% reflective. This one was rendered at 1000wide 900high

    The ground for the second one is Black with 100% reflectivity, and the spheres are the same attributes as the first. This one was rendered at 1900wide and 1800high

    Both were done with 8 skylights at 10% intensity, and rendered with only one pass.

    [attachmentid=15037]

    [attachmentid=15038]

    I also wanted to play with the fake radiosity again, so I also did these two, you all know how these ones work.

  12. It did, and I appreciate your comments and thoughts. So, you want to help?

    Well, I would love to do something like this, but I have alot going on with School, the wife, the kids, and work. I haven't even started A:M in about a month or more, Maybe after the semester is over in May I could help with a limited number of things, being that I'm not very talented with A:M, and don't know much about game programs, but I would like to learn more, so in a few months.

    I will frequent this thread and others in the general area to keep up to speed.

    James

    OK if theres one thing that bugs me the most in RRPG it that most of them are 1 player, i think it should be able to be played by more than 1 person at a time in story mode.

    This is a great idea...Champions of Norath has the option of playing one or two players, and the best part of how they have it set up is that if one person is not there, you don't have to start over, you have the option to remove the other player, and add him back when available.

    That would be a great idea for a game like this, you know nobody just likes to watch, expecially kids.

    Sorry, wasn't loged in, but from me...

  13. I was just wondering on what group you were planning on targeting this game. I have yet to read the TWO script from cover to cover, so I am not sure what would lie ahead after the meeting with the butler at the woodmans castle.

    You reference Shrek as being a blueprint for this game, but the movie Shrek, although it was animated, had a lot of adult humor in it, and targeted not only children but teenagers and parents. I never played the game, but I am sure that it was made targeting only a younger age group then the movie targeted.

    Being a gamer, well for about 17 years now, I don't hardly play games derived from movies targeted at children. I am more of a big time strategy and racing game guy.

    I think it would be beneficial to you, and whoever you get involved in making this game to have your targeted audience in mind. Not making it to complicated if it is made for a child, 6-12, and not making it to easy if you are targeting older kids, id say 14-17.

    I'm not sure where you are from, but I am sure that Bible Man would have been a big hit to the families where I'm from, "The Bible Belt."

    Well, that is my 2cents....hope i made 'cents'

    Later

  14. ok it worked but i have another problem...again...

    I have a pic. of a beach and want to use it as a background for crabby when he does stuff but how can i make the floor become like the sand or replace it with the sand???

    http://h1.ripway.com/FlyingMonkieBoy/help.bmp

    I am not sure if this would be helpful but you could try it.

    http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15900

    Also you could make like a 4 patch, or even a one patch, I will call it a blanket, and then just place the sand on it as a decal, that way you could have more controll on where it is placed and stuff like that.

    Hope that helps, these things always elude me.

    James

    BTW the picture on the link was just an X, or it could just be the computer I am on. Good luck

  15. To make the model a .mdl file, you have to..

    -right click on the name (in this case Crabby) in the Project Work Space

    -select 'create shortcut in library'....it will tell you that you need to save the model, so save it as a .mdl file

    -and you are done

    Pretty sure, I havn't used A:M in like a month and a half..... :rolleyes:

  16. Well, here is the addition of the shirt, and arms. I am having a hard time deciding if this is how I want it to be. Because his arms are really skinny, and I made it that way, but it just makes it look funny. Anyways, here it is.

  17. Odog, u dog. I must say, he's starting to look like Butthead! Keep at it and don't give up. This model is looking really nice. You will have an awesome Butthead when you are done. I can tell.

    The nice thing about modelling after a cartoon character is you don't have to make it look absolutely real. Use only the amount of detail you need to mimic the cartoon (unless you need some extra detail to make it more expressive, but that's a judgement call we all must make).

    Remember, if there is any places where it seems impossible to smooth it out either:

    1) reduce the number of splines in that area and hook it in. Fewer splines = smoother model = less detail. It's a give and take situation.

    2) there is always the 'porcelain' material cheat :D

    Killer job thus far, Odog. B)

    Yeah, thanks, there are some places that have way to many splines, but for now that will have to do.

    I noticed that in not trying to make the perfect model, and just doing, for now, what my level of modeling can do, it has gone alot quicker and better.

    After I get a little better, I will start removing splines that are not needed, I have alot.

    Anways I have added teeth gums and eyes and chin

    [attachmentid=12987]

    The only thing I have a question about is; What would be the easiest way to close the neck in the back? The hair is not attached to the face, and I want to keep a cylindric look. So should I 1. just add 4 more CP to the back and connect to the bottom spline, and work up from there? Or this there another way that would be easier?

    Thanks

    post-7171-1136590802_thumb.jpg

  18. Well, this is what I have so far. I have been keeping track of how long it takes me to do this model, so far I am at 3hrs and 15min give or take a few minutes. Anyways, it isn't a perfect match, but close, and after I add the hair and so big gums and such, it will look more like him.

  19. Well, Colin makes it look EASY--he's been doing this many years. Making a face like that is one of the most challenging things you can do.

    If you started that on DAY 1, then you skipped the other tutorials didn't you! :P Work up to it, don't try to do it as your first project.

    Actually I have completed all the other exercises, that was just the first tutorial that I tried to use. Except this time I used a picture of Butthead from MTV. However, it did take me more than 2 hours that it said in the book. And I still think it could use some tweeks.
