  1. Dude, you are my HERO. I wish I could model that fast, I'm so totally blown away by what you can do in such a short time. And not only that, but your wires look so clean and efficient. I have a problem with putting in way too many splines. I was trying to make the greatest character in the entire Star Wars universe....Jek Porkins. But it was killing me, I spent way too much time on the model so I kinda gave up on it. You've inspired me to give it another go. Many thanks, bro!
  2. Hrm, ok saving it through Xnview did work. Strange, I thought a png was a png was a png. Guess not. Well, nevermind then.
  3. Hi, Ken. Yes, it's all default, brand new chor. So maybe it is me. In the PWS, even the little thumbnail image displays wrong, while the TGA version of the same pic right underneath it looks fine. Sorry, I didn't mention I'm using version 12.0s. I'll see if I can find a different program to save stuff to PNG and see if that makes a difference.
  4. When I use a .png image file as a decal, it renders it as super bright and saturated, really blown out. Targas work fine, but I'm just wondering if anyone else gets this problem with .png. I wish I could use them because they're usually quite a bit smaller in file size....
  5. Is there a shortcut or something that will allow me to move a group under another group, like a directory tree? I've got a pupil, eyewhite, iris, and cornea, and then an eye group that selects everything, but it would be a bit cleaner if I could just put the group elements under the eye group. Can AM do this?
  6. When I bought AM and saw the cool Chewbacca model (great job whoever did that), it reminded me of something I've always wanted to see: Chewie playing some chess and ripping some poor sap's arms off. I know, not terribly original, but I still want to do it. So of course, my next step was to build an opponent. And who better than the greatest rebel pilot who ever lived, the TRUE hero of the rebellion (not that twiggy blond brat, somebody hand him a samich!), a real man who doesn't eject when the going gets tough....PORKINS! Actually, as an aside here, I was very sad when William Hootkins died not too long ago, and was really weirded out too, as there's a good chance I was working on this model the moment he died. Brrrrr. We'll miss you, Bill. Since then my little project has taken on even more significance for me, maybe that's why I'm now so obsessed with getting it just right. Originally, I wanted to make him look cartoony because it would fit best with the tone of the animation. I did some drawings and they were AWFUL. I can draw realistically well enough, but for the life of me I can't seem to make a decent cartoony character design. So I figured I'd just make it realistic looking, but I'm unhappy with the look: http://chriswilson.ca/porkins.html Long story short, I was hoping someone could give me some help on how to make him more cartoony. I tried just changing his proportions, but without a cartoony face, he just looks like, well, a dwarf. Also, can anyone comment on the topology? Is it too dense? I added some splines into the pelvis area because I wasn't sure if it would deform correctly...but now I'm wondering if I should remove them. What about his face? I've got this big five point patch on his cheek that is making a ugly crease that's driving me nuts and I'm having trouble relocating it. Anyway, thanks for any advice.
  7. Such nice work! Have you thought of putting some little details on the ground, like some scattered books, or some small rocks, or colorful mushrooms? Or maybe you already have details on the ground, I can't really tell because the image is really dark on my monitor (fluorescent lights are on and sunlight is streaming in right now and the monitor's calibrated for a dark room). I need to see the image tonight to get a better idea of how it looks. Still, my first impression on seeing it was "this is an evil sorceror's reading place" and I don't think that's the mood you're going for. What if you flood the area with some more moonlight, or have some glowing lichen or shrooms, or have bigger, brightly shining stars, or a cartoony moon with a smiling face...well, maybe that's too cheezy, I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas out there.... Anyway, great stuff, man! I wish I could do something just half this good!
