  1. We get very few folks who want both the PC and Mac versions of TSM, but if you buy one, you can get the other at the upgrade price. Keep in mind that characters rigged with one version of TSM2 will work with both the Mac and PC versions of A:M, without the need to rerig.

TSM2 does come with a manual.

We have not tried BVH import with the TSM2 rig. In general, TSM is designed for keyframe animation, not mocap manipulation. Raf may have more to say about how best to approach this. If you try it, let us know what you come up with.

  2. Dear Mac folks: It's finally here--The Setup Machine 2 for Mac OS X. The same functionality as TSM2 for Windows, but in a package that runs natively on A:M v11.x and later for OS X. TSM2 OSX is available now for download, and we are taking orders at:

    http://www.rafhashvideotapes.com/setupmachine10.html

(BTW, all versions of TSM and WeightMover are currently on sale-in fact, they are at the lowest prices we've ever offered.)

Here's the basic info on TSM2 for OS X:

The Setup Machine 2 for A:M installs a high-quality animation rig--the skeleton that allows control of a 3D character--into any character model created in Hash Inc.'s Animation:Master v11.x for OS X and later.

TSM2 does the hard work of rigging a character for you. You can create rigs for humans, dogs, giraffes, centaurs, scorpions, octopi, and fantasy creatures of your own invention that would be incredibly difficult and time-consuming to rig by hand. We've worked hard to develop intuitive, easy-to-use manipulation controls. Animators say our rigs are "wonderfully expressive" and "a joy."

New Features: Works as a plug-in for A:M, no more leaving the program to rig in a separate application * Builder tabs make it easy to create biped, quadruped, multiped, and fantasy rigs * Parts Builder allows completely modular and asymmetrical rig construction * TSM Flipper lets you fit your skeleton to the model in half the time * New quad and insect leg types * Wings * Advanced finger controls * Stackable spines * Squash and stretch on limbs and spines * Slider-controlled tail lag * FK-IK switching via slider on both arms and legs * Auto knee and elbow pointing * Auto center of gravity for bipeds * Simple, intuitive animation controls * Intelligent isolation of all rig components

When you order, be sure to download the software using the button on your order confirmation. If you are upgrading from TSM1 for Mac, be sure to include your old serial number or Anzovin Studio order number in the comments field of the order form. All customers will receive a new serial number by separate email.

Thanks to Steve Sappington and everyone at Hash for helping to make TSM2 for Mac a reality.

  3. In general, the TSM2 skeleton does not have any extra bones. Nor can you delete any bones and expect the rig to work as advertised, if it works at all. The apparent increase in number of bones over TSM1 is to allow squash and stretch, prevent the rig from breaking at extreme distortions, etc. You can always add more bones, if you know what you are doing, but you should not remove them from the base skeleton.

  4. Oh goody! I have been looking forward to this for while since I'm currently using AM v10.5 and am tired of gazing longingly at v.11 and v12.

To clarify: TSM2 for OSX will still need to be used with Mac versions of AM later than v10.5....

  5. This week, we will begin shipping a new tutorial CD-ROM, "Animating with The Setup Machine 2".

    http://www.rafhashvideotapes.com/anwitscd.html

The disc is hosted by Raf Anzovin and covers animation techniques using Anzovin Studio's automated rigging tool, The Setup Machine.

Raf covers the basics of the TSM process, then reveals secrets of such lesser-known TSM2 features as tail lag, squash and stretch, and the advanced hand. Then he moves into detailed demonstrations of animating various characters, including a four-armed ogre and an octopus.

The longest section of the CD is an example of animating a character from start to finish, utilizing stretchy spine and arms. You'll get a chance to look over Raf's shoulder as he animates an entire shot.

Topics covered: Introduction--Basic Rigging Process * Body Controls * Advanced Hand * Quad Leg * Insect Leg * Stackable Spines and Tail System * Animating a Four-armed Ogre * Animating an Octopus

Raf has not recorded a substantial new tutorial for A:M for several years. This disc captures his latest approaches to animation, covering areas not discussed in any other A:M-specific book or video tutorial.

For the launch of this disc, we are also offering sale prices on all our TSM and Weight Mover setup products for Animation:Master, plus a special price for our Training CDs Bundle which now includes Raf's new disc.

  6. Couldn't TSM 2 for OS X be released as a standalone app like version 1 is now?

Just the possibility we are looking at now--actually, a hybrid approach is what Morgan is suggesting as the way to go. It will take a little more work to do this, but we'll keep you posted.

  7. Bummer announcement: TSM2 for OSX is being delayed indefinitely. We won't say why precisely, but it's not our fault! Anyway, Morgan's looking into alternative approaches... we still want to do it.

  8. Morgan will look into this.

Sigh--The Face Machine. Well, Hash does not yet support the features we need for that in the SDK--CP weighting is not exposed. So until some further development is done by Yves, and it is not high on his priority list, I'm afraid, this product is unfortunately on hold.

    --Steve

  9. Umm, nope, I think the version is not encoded in the actual software (just in the installer). Morgan'll fix that in the next version. Meantime, you can just d/l and install the latest TSM2, or, if you're not having any current problems, drag your feet with what you've got.
