  2. We'll be adding to this as time goes on, but here are answers to the most common problems.

     

    Q: "Where's that dang manual, anyway?"

    Q: "How come the models gets all distorted when I move the rig?"

     

    A; Yoou probably are trying to animate the model using the geometry bones, not the final control bones. Be sure to run TSM2 Rigger before animating.

     

    Q: "What are all these extra bones for?"

     

    A: The TSM2 rig has extra bones to provide advanced functions like stretchiness. These "extra" bones are hidden after you run TSM2 Rigger.

     

    Q: "Why is this rig so hard to use?"

     

    A: It isn't. Make sure you have run TSM2 Rigger before animating.

     

    Q: "I'm trying to animate and nothing is happening!"

     

    A: Turn on the TSM Constraints pose.

     

    Q: "I'm putting the TSM2 rig into a model that had a rig and nothing works right!"

     

    A: Make sure to delete all poses as well as everything left over from the previous rig. It's best to go back to pure geometry before working with TSM2.

     

    Q: "I don't like your basic skeleton. Can I throw away bones in the spine, neck, arms, etc. before rigging?"

     

    A: No. TSM2 needs all the bones we provide. You should have the functionality you need after the model is fully rigged.

     

    Q: "I give up, this is too frustrating, I don't get it."

     

    A: We do have a money-back guarantee if all else fails.

  5. Luckbat is correct--we have not used the DVD video format because it does not allow for higher-res screen capture. We also find that many of our customers, especially overseas, still do not have DVD players, or have compatibility issues with DVD-ROM formats. Finally, CD-ROM duplication is cheaper than DVD, so we can keep our prices down.

  6. in the past two years, Cristin has worked on the feature GI Joe: Valor vs Venom, which was released theatrically as well as on DVD; the UK Action Man direct-to-DVD feature; A&E's Faith of My Fathers, the John McCain biopic; the games Halo 2 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; and Duel, of course. She's presented at a Siggraph panel and taught at Hampshire College.

  9. It ought to run in Classic mode--it is not OSX native.

     

    I don't think there'll be a WM for OSX. We are more likely to fold weighting into TSM at some future point, when Hash supports weights in the SDK.

  10. Hi Dan

     

    I no longer remember what happened with the marching ducks, but that was probably around the time I had my bypass surgery, or maybe it was during the cancer treatments, and some things just slid on through the cracks. In fact, I don't actually remember all that much of 2004...

     

    If you want to resubmit, keep in mind that all the images in this particular book need to say "comics art"--just regular 3D imagery, however accomplished, doesn't quite fit.

     

    There's no one size or aspect ratio for images. Some will be printed larger, some smaller, and I don't get the final word on that. The book designer will lay out all pages, so there's no need to do that yourself (although suggestions are welcome). As a general rule, the bigger the image, the better it will hold up for potential full-page display. Maximum image size is about 9"h x 10"w, 2700 x 3000 at 300 dpi. Other sizes and aspect ratios are also welcome. Don't be surprised if your work is cropped a little to fit the layout--that's normal procedure--but this is less likely to occur with a finished panel, page, or spread.

  11. We're seeking high-quality art that looks like it should be in a comic as well as art that was or is in a comic. We are especially anxious to get panels and covers and spreads--a whole comic for multipage display would be ideal--but any comics art will be considered.

     

    What makes it comics art? It should be at least one of the following:

    --a sequential visual narrative integrating graphics and text

    --in comics format--panels, strips, cover, etc.

    --about typical comics themes--superheroes and villains, etc. (but could be anything, if sequential)

    --show comics-style exaggeration of the human form

    --toon-shaded or otherwise graphically stylized (we're soft on this one, more realistic-looking work will not be turned away if it has some of the other qualities)

     

    Print res: 200 dpi or higher, uncompressed image file format such as tif or tga, no jpg.

     

    Because this is a how-to book, we are very eager to get how-I-did-it images and explanations.

  12. No absolute need to remove the current rig. Follow this general procedure: Use TSM2's Parts Builder to import hand rigs and size them to your new hand geometry. Parent the hands to your current lower arm bones. Run TSM Rigger, and you'll have hands with the TSM rig attached to the body with your current rig.

  13. Raf and I are compiling a new art book titled "3D Comics Art". Our last book, "3D Toons," was heavily illustrated with a lot of great images created in A:M, and we'd like this new book to have even more. So we're putting out a call to all A:M artists interested in contributing.

     

    What we are looking for:

    --Top-notch, publication-quality comic book art made with 3D tools: panels, spreads, covers, character studies, works in progress, concept art, superheroes and villains, monsters, robots, kids, animals, classic fantasy, alternative, comic strips, manga, narrative, nonnarrative, sets, cityscapes, spaceships, planets, cool vehicles, special effects, title graphics, logos, toon shaded, semirealistic--all comics art welcome

    --Well, not all, actually: no sexually explicit or transgressive images, and no fan art using copyrighted characters or ideas from DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Kodansha, Disney, etc. (unless you have written permission from the creators/publishers). And, it can't be something we already used in the "3D Toons" book.

    --How-you-did-it images: sketches, thumbnail layouts, design evolutions, screenshots, wireframes, UV maps, texture maps, lighting tests, pose tests, text effects and balloons, logo tests, Photoshop images with layers intact, etc.

    --A written artistic statement (no more than 1000 words) about your art, with emphasis on the 3D aspects, benefits, problems, esthetics

     

    What we offer:

    --Full color exhibition of your work in a high-quality art book, and even a two-page spread all to yourself if you provide us with enough material

    --The opportunity to talk in print about your working methods, artistic philosophy, theory of serial art, or anything else relevant to the topic

    --The publisher has no budget to pay contributors, but we will send any artist whose work we use in the book a copy of any current Anzovin Studio CD title, your choice.

  14. Copy your original TSM installer to a CD, a removable disk, or your favorite form of backup. You can make as many copies for backup purposes as you need. TSM is not nodelocked or copyrestricted in any way. Also be sure to back up your serial number.
