Not bad at all. I like the connect spline look much better.
have you tested the bends yet? I am always looking for a better way to model that will result in fewer creases and less hassel with smart skin.

That was a very good idea! I wish i had sound at work! You look to have used some powerful tools well, that is the best way to learn this software, keep up the good work!
PS. The raptor's tail was cracking me up... it was almost like those old rubber lizards I played with as a child.

If you are using Powerpoint with a projector or TV, then the DV codec in quicktime will result in an artifact free rendering. On your computer screen, it will look bad, but on the TV it will look fine.
You listed this codec as one of the availible codecs for PowerPoint.
You should give that a try if you are using a projector, DVD, or TV for your presentation.

That looks fabulous!
The one thing I would add are the islands that the pumps sit on. There is usually large steel barriers to prevent nuts from running into the pumps also.
Good job!

That is pretty trippy. I will definately check that out!
Thanks!

I think I would like in on this too! If I were lucky that would get me back on track with the upgrades so I stop buying them in October!
-
I am confused now even more. Here is what I remember form the time before last that I upgraded.
I actually talked to Steve Sappington on the phone.
It has been two years since this call, so whatever I say that Steve said here may be TOTALLY WRONG! I am hoping Steve can clarify...
When I ordered my upgrade for 2002, I ordered in late in the cycle (August, I think).
He said that they key the CDs in a way that my CD would be good for upgrades for a year from the month I purchased it in. That way, i could update until August. If this is the case, I'm okay. If it is a similar policy to this where I can upgrade for close to that time, I'm okay. (I got this upgrade in October).
If not, I might have to be a little disappointed that I would not be getting the same value for my $99 that someone gets for buying the CD in January, which, financially speaking, is a terrible month for me to purchase anything for $99.
Maybe Steve or someone can put the exact upgrade policy up as a sticky. That way I know what to do for the future.
Thanks for everyone's help on this issue,

If creepy is what you are going for... go far those 3d ones. They are giving me the heebie-jeebies.
Even the color scheme is kind of... freaky.

That really does look nice. I have no crit of the leaves, they are very cool.
The trunk and branches need some more roughness. Perhaps add another bump map with turblence applies or some other effect. I would also vary the color of the wood more.
Very good modeling!

So here is the question that has been asked a thousand times:
I bought my subscription CD a couple monthes ago. Will I be able to upgrade for a full year from the time I bought it? I think I have been told that they key the CDs in a way where this works. I hope so, because since I have been involved heaviliy on this forum I have really kept up with the upgrades. I would hate to think my brand new version of AM will no longer be able to upgraded come January.

Time to humble myself! (Which i end up doing a lot)
:Taking foot out of mouth:
I have forgotton how much infinately faster our Macs are now. If I render at 320x240, 1 pass, no reflections, no shadows(very important), it will render at about a frame per 2 - 6 seconds.
That is plenty fast.
I will shut up now because i hate to complain anyhoooo.

The marvelous thing about patches is that they DO have two sides in the first place!
(Coming from someone who also deals with polys!)

Are there any good tutorials on using the ease function?
I almost forgot about it!
-
Ok. My bad. nevermind.
sorry for being a stick in the mud. I should be happy with what I got.

It can't be a hardware issue. If that were the case Lightwave would not render OpenGL. And how is that Hash can even show OpenGL shaded mode at all if it's a hardware issue?
I'm very confused because I can't upgrade to a new computer because of this. It has worked in every version up to the OS X versions.
-
Thanks, I'll have to try that in the meantime... until Hash fixes the preview render!
I hope we can get this issue moved to the forefront of the priority list, because there are certainly some people that don't want to have to mess with Apple Script.
-
Thanks for the advice.
Of course, I still think that this issue warrants resolution. I also can't render out preview clips to put into FinalCut. When I was doing an earlier project I was able to get all of the animation done before I ever set the render to FINAL. I used the preview renders. That way i could check the timing of everything, I could see if seems felt rushed, or were too long. There aren't many ways for one dude to make a movie. I use the preview to test lip sync, collisions, etc.
We should really be on our friends at Hash to get this one fixed. I can honestly say that no other function of the programs is more important to be fixed than this one.
If Martin and the guys are listening, I'm sure I'm not the only desperate Mac user out there!

I know thas has been re-hashed (pardon the pun) several times, but we (Mac users with the nVidia Graphics card) DESPERATELY need the preview render. At the lowest final render settings it still takes far to long to get a preview. It is costing me days of production time. Just yesterday I had to re-render a five second clip because there was some jittery camera movement that I didn't notice until the computer trendered all night. I want to finish my project and this really bogs me down. I can't get a new video card for an iMac or Powerbook. I can't afford a new computer. I can't understand why the Shaded view mode works, but not the render? I can render in shaded mode in my other 3d software. I desperately need THIS software to have this function. It doesn't even render wireframe. This has got to be the single-handed MOST important function for getting an animation to look good. It take my computer all night to render that 5 second clip. All night.
Please.... I have been a Hash user for several years. Please help us!
BTW: Mac Users... please post a message here. If we could get a whole load of Mac user posts here maybe they might move the bug up on the priority list!

I try to render my animations at 720 x 486 using the DV codec and then compressing from there since my number one priory is for dvd.
Going from the DV codec to Sorenson 3 doesn't look too bad, but going form Sorenson to DV produces bad artifacts.

The only way i could think is to copy the end keyframe into a new action as the first keyframe. Do this until you reach the beginning.
Of course, if it is not too complex of a walk cycle, it is probably best to copy the first key and do the whole thing over.

Hey thanks! I'll check out your file. I have been wanting to learn more about fan bones. Thanks so much for the help!
-
That's not too bad! The model and motion look okay to me. Maybe we could see it with a different background?
Keep it up.

That makes me feel better! I think I can work with it and I need to get busy animating. Thanks for the advice. I thought I had done something wrong.

If anyone out there who is a rigging guru wants to give me some pointers on what I have done wrong with this guy, I am ready to hear some suggestions.
I used to 2001 skeleton included on the CD and rigged him according to the instructions.
The trouble is he is acting peculiar when I apply some of the actions on the CD to test the rig. Is that the actions or my rigging work? His knees act very funny. I also think my hand rig is screwed up. The thumb doesn't curl.
Anyone who wants to look at Gnosh can feel free. I need all the help I can get.
A:M Films

Ok, as a couple of you guys know, I am working on a project that is still a looooong way from completion, but I thought I should ask this question now because I was unclear as to the requirements for submission to A:M Films. I have a feeling I know the answer, but no question is a stupid question unless you are a lawyer.
Anyhoo. My film is being done using Animation Master AND Lightwave. So, here come the whys:
1.... I have Lightwave rendering on one computer, Animation Master on the other one.
2.... My skill set on the two different software differs. On Hash I can make the characters, animate them, lip sync, etc. The hard stuff. There is NO better package for it on the market at any price. ...but we all know that here.
On Lightwave I do most of the mechanical modeling. I can make sets, export them to 3ds, and use them as a prop in AM with materials made in AM. Very cool, because in Lightwave I can bust out a decent set, building, or spaceship in a much shorter time than it would take me to do the same in A:M. That is just my current skill level. So, the spaceflight cut scenes are done in LightWave, the rest in AM.
3.... I can work on one part while another is rendering. Similar to number 1 above, but I really thought a list needs at least 3 points.
Will I be able to get this on A:M Films? I know that they probably really won't like the idea of posting something done outside of AM. It's just the only way I can finish this project in the forseeable future.
If anyone knows about this, thanks in advance.
