  1. Thanks for download ! Yes for the bike I see how you do it , I was trying to avoid 5 point patches at all costs ( and save on geometry ), the mesh looks yucky but it renders smooth, thanks for the tip, I'll keep that piece if anything comes up in the future that I can use it for

  2. . . . news flash . . . uninstalled nvidia drivers and no difference . . . looks like the Nvidia Quadro Video card was actually working with AM on this mac better than the AMD card except for the texture / rotoscope / imported images . . . now I am thinking that the Nvidia Quadro card under bootcamp Windows 7 would actually work . . . hmmm . . . more to come when I get that drive to do a install

  3. https://youtu.be/pwoYKp1a8os this is what its doing . . . needs to be fixed ! With all due respect Fuchur, this is quite ridiculous for the app to behave this way on mac - granted there is only one developer / engineer developing the mac version, it is very frustrating not being able to do work because of these issues, we cannot use this for production work on Mac OS, the issues is even more unstable with AMD/ATI card than it was on the Nvidia card, I'll try both cards on windows 7 through boot camp and see what results I get - the mac version is a afterthought at best, looks like I will have to build a PC up again just for AM, such a great app it is but I cant use it to any potential on the Os I love and do 90% of my work on

  4. Yes understand, but I have got Dylan to export the model and also did some testing in the process on Mac side of things. . . nothing is working properly at the moment . . . I am thinking I will revert back to AM 2013 as dylan thinks thats the most stable version for production - on windows through boot camp on mac

  5. enjoy . . .yes and no . . . mainly no . . . card installed, booted up AM to see the car model I was working on, opens, loads projects . . . crash . . . try it again . . . crash . . . open new project ok, draw stuff, ok . . . turn on shaded wireframe . . . crash . . . crash . . . crash . . . crash . . . then think perhaps its because I had quad view setup, sent project to Dylan so he can close all open windows in project file so it only has to open one window . . . cash . . . exported car model from project ( by Dylan ) open that . . . good, touch a control point or turn on shaded / wireframe . . . crash . . . say . . . F#$%^&!!!! this S#$%$$^&, I'm gunna boot camp it, . . . but wait . . . cant boot off USB on Mac Pro 3,1 . . . okey dokey . . . lets just install win7 from cd/dvd . . . dvd drive is dead . . . take it out . . . ohhnooo its beta ! . . . ummm . . . noooo . . . its ATA / IDE . . . call every friggin compooter store in australia . . . they tell me . . . dude no ones been selling those drives like for the last ten years where have you been ? . . . so now I just bought a second hand 'tested' ATA/IDE drive . . . which will come next week, then I can finally load win 7 through bootcamp and transfer license and have a play . . . ouuu . . . I just realised I didn't uninstall the nvidia drivers so perhaps that could have caused issues . . . either way, come hell or high water I will be getting it to run on this damn mac pro . . . stay tuned for more laughs . . . or hopefully this version 19 is native mac code, that supports open cl and is rock solid , that will make my day

  6. Okey Doeky, went and got myself a Radeon HD 6850 3D card for mac and swapped it with the quadro that was in there, now AM is behaving good, except the last project I was working on is crashing on opening, there is a model in there which I did not save out, I think because I had the project setup with 4 windows for the views, AM boots, loads the files, then draws the windows and crashes . . . is there a way to reset this on the project file to one window or extract the model file ? . . . next step . . . install windows 7

  7. OK ! SO I went and got myself a Radeon 6850 for a bargain of $150 aud . . . specs on paper seem to favour the Mac 2008 over the Quadro FX 4800 I have, even at 1 gig on Radeon vs 1.5 gig on the quadro the Radeon looks to operate faster as the clock speed of the GPU is way faster on the radeon than on the Quadro . . . all spec stuff aside, lets see how AM performs now with the ATI card and the 3,1 mac lives to fight on ! Largento I agree on the expandability of the 2013 video cards, I have been talking to few people and watching videos and see that people are running external GPU's - hacked of course, hopefully Apple will natively support this on the next version, if some one were enterprising enough to come up with a connector / converter cable to allow installing new GPU's it would eb awesome, but its that darn custom form factor in the cylinder macs that makes it difficult, which would mean that you would have to physically modify the case to allow an external connector just for external GPU's that don't connect through thunderbolt - but natively and directly to the motherboard through the converter cable in an external case, I think the external hard drives are ok, but we would have higher capacity flash drives at affordable prices in the future . . . fingers crossed !

  8. yes I flashed a a GE Force card a long time ago for my G4 Mac AM ran great on it back then on the old PPC, yes I did look into ATI cards, but I always seem to get the max power card available for the machine which was

/ is the FX4800, I have been looking at specs on the 7950 and Final cut does get an edge from it, but really AM should be working for the Nvidia Cards, its a PIA like this, I'll see what happens and yes you are right about step down - which is why I'm leaning towards a 2013 Mac pro with the ATI/AMD cards instead of building up a legacy Mac Pro tower all over again, I really invested a fair amount of money in ram on this machine, the only thing that I'm not too fond off on the 2013 mac is being stuck with the graphics card and hard drive upgradeability, sure there are thunderbolt drives available but then buying an external case + drives is more $$$ lets see what happens for now I can work with what I have, the rotoscopes are hit and miss, but toggling the antiscopic settings and open gl versions seems to get them back so I'll finish this project before shelling out for any new hardware and if I get a new machine the 2008 will make a nice windows machine, I sure miss my old dell 540 visual work station which I built up for AM, that thing was a beast with the wildcat 3D card and AM worked on it flawlessly, but its a pain as all my graphics software is licensed for mac and I sold it for a good price to be used as a server

  9. Hi Largento, which video card did you upgrade to in the 2008 Mac ? Just curious, I bought the Nvidia Quadro 4800 FX last year for it, and this appears to be the issue with it and AM, read the other forums and people using windows also have the same issues, I was going to install windows with bootcamp but now realise that it wasn't going to solve the problem, interested in which video card you have running in the 2008 ?

  10. I know man, trying to juice the most I can out of my exisiting mac pro, its either change up the card to the 7950 ( its still pretty expensive @ over $500 usd ) or buy a 2012 mac pro which ca support the newer cards or just bite the bullet and upgrade to the 2013 mac pro with dual D700 6gb cards, either way its overkill for AM if its doesnt support Open CL rendering etc. but on the there front it will chew through video editing and " normal " tasks, doing the math and the effort required to buy an older machine, then spend money on SSD expansion cards + ram + more SSD drives + new video card - I think the 2013 Mac Pro is looking ideal, but really need to justify that purchase I think by some paying jobs, don't really game on PC's / Macs, we used to back at Momentum Animations with lan mid town madness / quake etc. its all xbox one for gaming at the moment

  11. I'm thinking about changing my current quadro card in my 3.1 Mac Pro with a Radeon 7950, have been reading up on specs etc. and its pretty good for Mac and Windows, has dual bios so can be used on either, so would make either environment sweet through bootcamp windows or on Mac, I read the other posts with same issues from windows users with Nvidia cards

  12. Hi JB, this is the second build, the first one I made had more subdivisions and started to get messy, I had to " think simple " and practice the " Zen of AM " - I looked at models from Xtaz and they looked awesome but I could see a lot of hours went, into that ( not ideal for production ), I wanted to see his path work / mesh in one of his models, then I had the light bulb moment - first flesh everything out with minimal patches, scraped the first build and did this, it took almost the same time but the trick is to really concentrate on the lines and curves - I suddenly realised that designing good looking cars is very tough - the hardest thing being capturing the essence of it in minimal design, usually I "know " when I have hit it right - your mind has that moment of clarity and accomplishment of a tough puzzle that you have been trying to figure out for a week, my test is to go to bed, wake up and have a look at it with fresh eyes, if it gives you satisfaction then its a winner and I got this with the car - quite pleased with it actually and you're right - very minimal - tried to keep everything in quads, you could use this for games I suppose, I'm actually producing some IOS games myself but just 2D at this stage, but I have a few concepts and characters I have that I will build a game with one day ! Suppose this is good training for that. Need to incorporate exporters for Unity game engine - I'll bug Hash when the time comes for that ha ha . . .

This is for Dylan Perry from Momentum Animations which is now called Perry Animations, for a show they are doing with RC cars, its going to be used for intro and in show animations, I actually met Martin and his Wife there last week at his place when they were on their last leg of the journey from their tour, I didn't get much time to talk to Martin as I arrived late but it was great to met Mr Hash himself. I'll post up stills and animations as things go along, the last thing I built for him was a highly detailed bike on legacy Mac Pro, I think AM has issues with Nvidia Quadro video cards though, it gives me hell with rotoscopes and texture rendering

  13. Thanks man, I'm modelling a car at the moment for a tv show pilot intro animation for RC cars and would like to study how you create your patches because they are awesome ! Appreciate you sharing that rig for the bmw just what I needed and robcats video on suspension spring ! 17097405_10212000043573927_5663117042947

this is the 2nd build, I have found fleshing out the panels in this way with simple geometry to hit the sweet spot of the look I was trying to achieve, now I can weld the panels together and add the chassis / wheels and suspension . . .

  14. . . . just sayin, met Mr Hash himself in Melbourne, Australia at Dylan Perry's place, it was brief there was so much I wanted to ask and nit pick about AM, but it was getting late and Martin and his wife looked exhausted after travelling and meeting everyone, next time !

  15. Hi all, do I need to get another serial number for AM Net Subscription if I want to install it on Mac through bootcamp - Win7 ? Have had it up to here " " with it crashing on Mac and not rendering rotoscopes and throwing my pallets everywhere cant use it for production - so windows it is, have sent a email to orders@hash.com but didn't know if the original serial would work ??

  16. V19 fingers crossed, although I did end up finishing a super detailed model of a push bike today with a million crashes on mac, I was this " " close to setting up boot camp to install windows and install AM on windows again then I realised that it was too late, that I would have to email to get another serial key for windows as my mac subscription key wouldn't work and I had to finish the model by today / yesterday so I was like " i'm not going to let this crashing beat me " . . . and so the project was completed, oh and I have a lot of things to note which are doing all sorts of things on mac . . . more soon

  17. I looked at the surface series, big drawback to them is they are throw away machines. Can't change memory or hard drive in them because they are soldered in. Also looked at the Cintiq Companion and I could get a workstation laptop in that price range. What I do use quite a bit is the Dell 13" 2:1 laptop 7000 series. Bang for the buck they are nice little machines and you can use a nice Intuos Pro tablet with them and still have some money to spare. Very capable machines with great battery life. They will run AM but you have to step back on the OpenGL. If you have another pc with AM on it you can use remote desktop and connect to it.

At one time there was a RD desktop app for ios to windows but they "fixed it" and now it doesn't connect. I was able to use AM on my iPad via RD and it worked ok but I have the mini so squinting was necessary. Not sure if that has bee "fixed" again. I'll check and see.

True Pixel Pucker, but in all honesty, I just upgraded my iPad now from a series 2 so it was def worth the money I paid for it for its uses, and remember that am runs fine on very low spec machines and the iPad pro specs are pretty good so I'm just interested at the prospects of it running sure there are tablet pc's and even macs, one of the issues is that I have all my graphics software Adobe etc. licensed on Mac and I dont have the space for setting up a PC just for AM at the moment like I used to and doing things in graphics apps / am is required and becomes a pia on two machines if you're working solitary - mind you it works great on mac but to also have a modeller on iPad for me would be great to chip away at a design almost anywhere, its just my system setup - mac centric

  18. AHA ! I just gave my developers a copy of it and said " let me know how much time etc. to convert this with some tweaks to iOS / Android from this Java " - lot of tech out there to address this . . . so we could have it run in browser on HTML5 abstract or go the whole yard for a native experience

" Google's open source J2ObjC translator, meanwhile, takes Java code and translates it to Objective-C source code, Apple's code of choice for iOS devices. Google intends for the translator to accommodate non-UI code, such as application logic.

Two other companies, Vaadin and Codename One, have services enabling Java developers to get their applications on Apple's devices. Codename One performs cloud-based cross-compilations from Java to C/Objective-C.

"The Java development/debugging is done entirely locally, but when building for the device, the cloud portion does all the heavy lifting," says Shai Almog, CEO of Codename One.

Vaadin offers a Java framework for building Web applications for iPad. A Java abstraction is provided on top of HTML5. "
