can you post the reference pic(s) that you are using so we can all see what the goal is the ears, hat and basic head shape looks good. Is there a way to get rid of the weird undentation on the jawline. i was looking at some ref and it looks like you need to add some cheek buldge to make him a little chubby in the face. The eyes look like they are too sunken. It's creepy. Can you lighten the color of the mustache so we can see the detail? The size of the nose is right. The shape of the nose should be more organic. Are you going to incorporate the nose eventually? i think the weak chin looks good. The lips should be fuller...more volume and more curve

do you think it should be fatter in the back?
-
If you need help with the rig just ask. for now eyelids are unnessary, plus they are easy to add later
-
Fatter in the back? or front? or both? i think that side-to-side that he looks just right

goomba is looking good. I don't know about others on the forum but i would like to see a sideways walk.
-
shy guy isn't boned but that should be simple i'm not sure what you are asking about with the eyes. Are you trying to lock down the eyes? When it comes to characters with eyes like goomba i like to surface constrain the pupil to the eye and then set the eyes to aim at 2 nulls.

I think the overall head shape of this version is much better. Great ear. The hat is looking good, just that one spot on the side where there is an out of place fold. The temple (and other areas) need to be smoothed out. If you don't want to take the time to detail the eye sockets i think that you could just make it flat and buldge the eyes out. lastly, make sure that when you are done with the model that the mouth is in the right shape. It should be in the default shape for the character, which is usually a closed shape. That makes it easier to animate

Can you make the star look more like the reference pic that Mage put up? I like the style of the projections being fatter with more volume. Also the peak on the projections looks a little odd. Then there's the eye. You can see all the details in the reference. two highlights, one larger than the other that is colored differently for each character. Also if you select the spline around the edge of the eye and shade it to render as lines you can get that dark outline of the eye. Of course the eye detail is only important if we are going for an anime look?

That's a crazy cloud...might not be right for this project. maybe something more stylized

Finally (after some computer problems) i have the work that i did on shy guy. Here he is without the face holes. i plan to use a bump/color map for the face unless it looks too stupid. The arms will be fatter and there will be a little more detail. i wasn't sure how much modeling detail to put in because the two images that mage put up are very different. Is there an official look of this character that i should be going by. oh yea, is there supposed to be a point to the top of his head...like he is wearing a hood?

That does look great but what about toning down the reflectivity on the tube. It looks more like a super smooth glass than metal.
-
Do you have better pics for reference? If you have something useable i can start on the "shy guy".

i would love to help model...i have been looking for a new project.

It's looking good so far. I think that height is right (super tall like a super hero should be). The shoulders might be a little wider. Somehow you have to tweak the inside thigh so that it silouette is not such a straight. Another key feature of the reference picture is the delicate thinness of the knees and ankles. It would look good if you could get the diameter of the knees and ankles down but still maintain a the style of the shape. good luck... can you upload a wireframe??
