Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 9 Hash Fellow Posted December 9 The story goes that WB acquired some footage from an unfinished silent-era project (Hal Roach? Mack Sennet?) and assigned Friz Freleng and Chuck Jones to devise a new scenario and dialog for it. "Bedtime for Bonzo" starring Ronald Reagan and a chimpanzee had been a hit in 1951. Maybe "Orange Blossoms for Violet" (1952) was an attempt to get in on the developing monkey wave. It's an odd duck. And it has ducks in it. Monkeys would only become more common into the sixties, such that even "Robinson Crusoe on Mars"(1964) would have to have a monkey. Peak monkey was probably reached in 1968 with "2001" and "Planet of the Apes". Quote
