Lightwave is too expensive for my blood and Blender is one of those things I see other people doing amazing things with and it's very tempting but I find it very complicated and involved while A:M feels intuitive and my brain "gets it". Plus it's not expensive.

Does anyone here use Lightwave ir Blender....

I had to make the switch to Blender when it became impossible to port A:M to the Mac anymore. I was in the middle of a movie and it was a scary prospect. I'd only ever used A:M. The key (you mentioned) is the large user base. There are millions of Blender users and many of them have made YouTube tutorials for virtually everything you would want to know.

But if you don't have to switch, why not just stay with A:M?

If you do end up moving to another program, go with Blender. Lightwave is pretty much dead in the water. Newtek was bought out by VizRT a few years ago, and they claim they still support Lightwave, but the last patch was released on May 25, 2021. The last version was LW 2020.0.3.

While there has been talk about trying to buy Lightwave away from VizRT, so far each attempt has been unsuccessful.
