April the Giraffe

Can't let current events get too far ahead and not take advantage of potential to connect with TaoA:M exercises. :)

April the Giraffe is in the news because she is pregnant and expecting to deliver her calf at any time.

The poor girl even has a live youtube camera watching her at every moment of the day. LINK

So, if you need an excuse to model a giraffe... well, now you've got one.

Attached is an extract of Exercise 11 for those that just want to concentrate on that exercise.

There are two things I want to consider adding into the mix to make this a better experience.

The first and most relevant would be Robert Holmen's video that deals directly with completing this exerise.

It is my understanding that he created that video after several had experienced difficulty at various stages of modeling.

The second is to review the tutorial from which this exercise came.

Many A:M users may not be aware of that tutorial from previous manual that not only took the user through modeling but pressed into rigging of the giraffe as well.

Attached are the two tutorials from the 98 Manual that relate to modeling and rigging of the giraffe.

Disclaimer: There is information in these tutorials that is out of date to include references to the CD, images of the user interface that have changed, etc. Inclusion here is to gain a deeper appreciation and perspective for the current manual and to consider further improvement of the exercise.

Here are the links to Robert's tutorials.

The first deals with modeling the legs of the giraffe and the second deals with dead end splines.

(Hopefully these links work. Some strange permission glitch prevents me from accessing them as Admin... I have to log out of the forum to access)
