This is a pretty good overview/intro to the concept and process of storyboarding:

It includes some reference work from some well known movies as well as storyboard examples from them.

A key statement near the beginning is that artistic talent is not required to work out a storyboard.

Often simple words a stick figures can be enough to capture the essentials.

Added detail is primarily of importance when others involve themselves in a project.
