detbear
I'm wanting to get a really nice caustic like crystal ball texture on a shere. A sphere with the look of colored glass. Anyone know of a really nice way to get this done?
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted May 2, 2013 Hash Fellow Share Posted May 2, 2013 You already know about refraction. What else are you looking for in the effect?
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted May 2, 2013 Hash Fellow Share Posted May 2, 2013 It turns out it's a bit more complicated... wE40kDUmxvs So you need... -the refraction (surface setting) -slight ripple distortions on the surface (a material noise combiner could do that) -slight surface reflection also, most noticeable on bright objects. An reflection map might be most convincing. -color fringing. This can be done with a multipass technique -the glass itself has a slight green tint to it. largento
You could achieve the color effect using MatCap shaders with a glass sphere image.
