Maddle, you're going to want to delete one of those horizontal splines and then attach the control point. Ideally you want one continuous spline going horizontal and one continuous spline going vertical.

 

 

Yes Mr Largento (Funny when i see your avatar and think about your name , i can t resist to remember The secret of Monkey Island ! :) ) So ! how to delete the in between spline without deleting the Cp s !!

click near a cp on the spline, hit the commakey, then that spline gets activated then hit delete.

 

To attatch the cps drag one cp over an other and right mouseclick them.

 

The tool you are asking is the patch select tool-

 

lick on your mesh with it and you will activate the valid patches with it.
