hair today

ok i made a try with making hair and have wound up with what looks like a decent head made out of tubes with points at the end , my question is what would be the best way to texture the modle to look like hair , preferably a red head deal

ok while good not exactly what i was looking for , pretty much what im asking is (A) is there a way to make a tube that is closed at one end fill with hair that moves along the leath of it or ( is there a good way to texture a tube to look like its hair
