doh! it would have helped to watch the video FIRST. man i spent an hour doing mine, they did the one in the video with some tricks - i modeled mine without turning off that pose restraint, no wonder! is this why things were snapping back and twisting for me?

Thats my bust. I really should be doing more to promote and distribute information about TaoA:M.

At the beginning of the year I set out to do just that... so far I haven't been very successful.

 

I am just as committed now as I've ever been to helping others help themselves.

As you've already discovered though... with no help from me... working through TaoA:M is a great way to do just that.

 

one thing i noticed too was that sometimes the rotate bones thing 'glitches' ... is it because my view port is relative to the rotation?

 

Its not entirely clear from your description but you may be looking at the phenomenon known as 'Gimbal Lock'.

Not sure so I won't guess further. Generally it will serve you well enough to adjust your view (you can have several views open at the same time) and adjust the rotation as needed. Without seeing more its hard to tell.

 

As far as the video tutorials go... you aren't the first to discover them a bit late.

Some like the videos... some prefer the book... use both whenever and whereever you can!

 

...and don't forget to post your work! If you don't post it here in the forum... seek feedback from elsewhere.

:) dont take all the blame. it was my 'box thinking' that made me think the two things weren't necessarily different. now i know, so it's no big deal :)

 

this gimbal lock, sounds like something out of top gun :)

 

wow did i just date myself? hehe

 

my gimbals are fine now that i understand more. most of this is just resistance to learning a new thing - attitude is everything here. i thought 'well i'm already a computer guy and i already know 2D so how hard can it be to make puppets lol' totally pompous and arrogant of me, and now i know to think with beginners eyes as i am a beginner even if i think i'm not ;)

 

but now that you mention it ;)

 

is there a glossary of 3D terms available somewhere, even in traditional analog book form (with pages and paper and a cover), or ebook or a simple website that has an explanation of things 3D? it seems like there should be. i've tried wikipedia and googling for these terms: 3D glossary, and searched on amazon.com for 3D for complete idiots, dummies, etc. :) no luck!

 

the closest i found was this and it's by no means satisfying/comprehensive/hands-on enough. ideally i'm looking for something of a glossary with illustrations and real-world situations where the term would be used/matter at all.
