Help Understanding creating a Talking scene

Hello New user here.

 

I was wondering the fastest way to handle making a scene where to characters talk to each other back and forth. Do you have to make a seperate action and dope sheet each time a character speaks. or can I make one really long dope sheet for everything each character says and then space it out in the chor.

I'd just use one dope sheet and animate the characters according to it.
