  1. Just thought id show a pic of what ive been working on. Nothing worth getting excited about. There are obvious problems in the mesh and the textures are lacking but Im getting antzy for a new project and thought id post this before i move on for critiques. Thanks Sean

  2. From what i understand the problem is known as artifacting. From my experience, the larger a 5 point patch, the more obvious this creased look becomes. If the points on the patch are not relatively paralell it causes creasing. My advice would be, if it doesnt render in a final render, then dont worry about it. If it-s something you simply must fix, try moving some points around. Im sure someone else can provide better help though.

  3. Easy, just apply a decal. First get a picture offline of the symbol. Then, right click in the modeling window and select new...then decal. Find the batman image where you saved it and then select ok. Resize and place where u needed it. Once youve got it over the area you will place it, right click on the decal and select apply. Thats it. If you messed up and need to remove the decal, select the control points which contain the decal, right click, select remove images. Then remove the desired decals. I hope this helps. 4. I personally learned to always use the rotate manipulator (R hotkey) because of this same problem. Just pulling the tip of the bone around produces turning in various directions since it is in 3 -d space. The rotate manipulator ensures this will not happen. Hope this helps. :D SeanC.

  5. Thanks you for answering that dumb question. Here's another: i've looked at the materail and even applied it to a model. It seems to make it alot smoother. Is there anything else it does or is that it. I looked at the material itself but i coulnt find any of the settings changed. Everything was "not set" maybe i missed something. Sorry to ask such stupid questions but i guess were all newbies at some point. Thank you SeanC.

  6. I noticed alot of people using some kind of porcelain material for skin. Is this a material i can aqcuire somewhere? Im using the skin material that comes with AM for some of my models (with a little tweaking) but if there is something better out there im all ears. Thanks alot SeanC.

  7. Now i know plenty has been posted on the subect of copyrighted laws so i looked through the archives. I founmd answers to most of my questions except one. How can i tell if the song im using is copyrighted and by who. I plan on using the "Barber of Seville". It is a classical piece by Rossinni. Does anyone actually own the rights to classical music. If anyone knows a website i could go to to find out it would be helpful. Thanks, SeanC.

  8. IMO i dont see the pelvis as being that bad looking. In most people, that is kind of what it looks like. But if youre not happy then it must be fixed. Mayybe try softening the transition from the legs to the hips just a tiny bit. And i agree that the legs are just a little too big. Both of those may help. SeanC.

  9. That looks great!!!! Definitely some skills here. I agree that it needs some bump map on the skin. I would also consider putting some bump maps on the horns andbones sticking out. Some added scratching on the the bones would make it look like it gotten into some fights. I like it though. SeanC.

  10. The finished one with decals is definitely better. IMO i think you should stick with what youve got, dont use materials. While you are animating you can turn the decals off temporarily to help speed things up- just press cntrl-D (on mac ists cmmd-D) . Also, make sure subdivisions are turned all the way down to help while working on your model. Press page down a bunch of times- you'll see the detal of your model lower...but it is only temporary and it will render just fine. To increas...you guessed it, Page up. These two things help with making it easier while animating. To help render times you could lower the compression, size or render in shaded mode instead of Final.

...clay is starting to seem better and better... :P

    Hope this helps a little.

  11. I posteed this a few weeks ago and got plenty of views but absolutely no posts. Just thought id post it again to see if anyone had more time to reply. I thought this was one of my better pieces of character animation. Ive only been using AM for 6 months so let me know any advice as far as animation goes.
