Specular is fairly easy. set the "surface" to 100% transparent and turn specular size and intensity to something other than 0%. I just tried it and it works, however in V13 I found that only multipass rendering would make specs show up in this method.
A quick test with that same strategy for reflections yields results not quite like what i expect. reflections seemed un naturally bright. More investigation woudl be required.

i cant find anything like you said in the options box... is it because i only have v14.0?

my model was going fine... yet some kind of issue occured (i cant remember what) and now i can see only parts of the model, yes the model has textures all over it, and no matter how i load it, like into another project, it is still visible in partial places, but when i render it it looks just fine.... does anyone know how this might be fixed?

hmm, after i used "render lock mode" i can see the flare.... strange, yet when i render it for real, it doesn't show...

I'm sorry... I just checked...'Volumetric' is not what you want.
HERE is what I just did REAL quick to make a bulb's lens flare work:
-Open A:M.
-Make a new chor.
-Right clik...new light.
-Now, go UP in the PWS to the new light under the 'objects' heading and turn on Lens Flare (under 'options').
-Try a test render(shift-Q) in the chor...you 'should' see a lens flare from the bulb.
sorry, still doesn't work.....

Have you tried it without any models in the chor, just the ground plane and the bulb light? Try increasing the flares intensity.

i was wondering how to make it so that something can be completely invisible, yet you can see reflections and/or specularity on it clearly.... and i have no clue how to do it, can anyone help?

I'm not on my AM computer, so I can't verify, but I've had the same problem before. It's usually something as mundane as not having the light turned on or similar. Why don't you turn off every other light and see if you even get any light at all. If you do, then start checking all other attributes. Is it a klieg, bulb, sun?
it is a bulb, and i do get the light on my models, its just that the lens flare doesn't appear

i am trying to render the lens flares in a choreography, yet no matter what direction i render it, it wont appear... the fade behind objects is off, fade with distance is off, and fade when aiming away is off.
does anyone have an idea of what may be the problem and how to fix it?

i am making an action for a model and after at least 2 keyframes, but with frames in between, it seems that the positioned bone moves from the spot where i positioned it when it goes between the two keyframes... is there a way to fix it?

I have seen your things on youtube and they are great and do you think you can make a video tutorial on how you make the alien cause i tried modeling and i suck.
i could try, these were done with much time and patience.... it will be very difficult to redo the models again for a tutorial, but maybe i will record myself making any of these new models sometime: the Facehugger, the Chestburster, the Predalien, the Praetorian, and maybe the finishing of some predator weapons/ textures. i hope you understand why i wouldn't want to redo the models again.... i already went through 2 models for each: a prototype for ideas of improvement, and the finals, the ones you saw on Youtube. I already sent the prototypes that i was able to save to the 3D Frog Store, they should be available sometime soon.

ok im not sure if the topic that was posted meens the same as this one but how do i make something on the model light up. like say i had a gountlet, and i wanted "power" comeing out of a spacific point in it. the power i want is a red light. so how would i make the red light look as if it was comeing out ofthe arm pice??
EDIT: should i just constrain the light inside the models arm and have a transparant part red?
well, i am not too sure about adding a light inside a somewhat transparent piece in a model, how about adding ambience to make it glow red?

ok, awesome! one more thing.. what is the default setting for the displacement? (like: -100= very deep, and 100= very high)(?)

i was wondering if any of you professionals out there could make some tutorials for certain "3d" type skins or textures, or to even make them. but, just for now, i was wondering how you would make a '3d' texture for reptilian type skin. if you did an replied that would be great.

i dont understand.... i make it 100% transparent, 25% spec size, and 100% spec intensity.... and no matter how i render it i still cannot see the spec on the sphere.
