That's the problem with models from poly packages! To get the splinage optimized for A:M you are going to have to do some work deleting some sections that you don't need, and reworking some areas. An automated process is not going to make the decisions that you will need to make to model for animation....
Once you get a figure that you like--Save it to a "anatomy" folder for re-use later! You don't want to have to do this again!
That is also a good peice of advice for scratch built A:M models too. When you model a hand, foot, face, torso, bat-wing, etc that you like...save it for later! You can import it into new models and save some time creating new characters!

Flog,
The Ninjai Gang site doesn't list any of the creators, or give any contact information. You don't have any Bio or contact info...
Is this one of your projects? Or just an example of a collaborative thing that you'd like to do?
for myself, I like to work with people that I know. And be able to call them on the phone. An anonymous collaboration like the Ninjai project doesn't appeal to me.

You might look at Wings3D or Crossroads to convert to a quad DXF and import that.

If some parts of the BVH file are working but others are not, then I would test another BVH file that has the same naming conventions as the one you used to setup the pose.
It may be that your constraints are looking for a different target name than the new BVH file.

good critiques all. looks like I need to make some changes on the next version.

I still have to add the footprints in...and I have an email from the director wanting to change the skies in all of the background plates, so I guess this shot is still a work-in-progress...

This is a small clip from some of the VFX shots I'm working on for Miss Cast Away
The water splash is an A:M spriticle, the shot was put together in aftereffects.

Anzovins are really good with some of those...but those features are more advanced. Hash has some pages that explain them really well, you might want to look there.

The book "Digital Lighting and Rendering" by Jeremy Birn is worth adding to your library!!!

Photon Mapping is the technique by which A:M calculates Radiosity.

I definately found the cross posting irritating. I unsubscribed from the list yesterday because I don't want to have to slog through everything twice...
If the forum continues, then I will post here. If the mail list, then there--but IMHO it needs to be one or the other!
If you could access the forum through the community window in A:M, that would be cool (can you?)
One advantage that the forum has is that you can show a picture in your post... One drawback to the official forum is that you can't always speak your mind.
I recently began asking myself if I was spending too much time reading email and browsing forums and not enough time getting some work done... I sometimes feel like it diverts my focus from where it needs to be... But every once in a while someone comes out with a new cool plug-in--and I don't want to miss it!!!
So if there was a "Vendor Shop" sub forum, for people to Announce their A:M products and have discussions related to them, then that would be convenient (I don't want to sign-up for Yahoo Groups to be able to discuss WeightMover or TSM...)
I think people should have to fill-in their Bio when they sign-up, because total anonymity can encourage rudeness... And I can't remember everyones "handle" between the forums, chat, and list...

Will there be a link to this in the Community window? Or maybe a tab in the community window next to the chat--then I never need another program besides A:M!

It will flex also... But if you apply dynamics to one bone by itself, it just hangs pointing at the floor. I was getting frustrated adding it to some breasts getting this undesired result. But when I added another bone, it behaved as expected.
So the breast had two short bones one attached to the other with dynamics on the last bone. Smartskin that bone for the breast shapes and you have perfect bouncy breasts!
errr...bouncy breasts were what this was invented for...right?

<_ hmmmm i don see a way to put someone on my list this forum.>

what the hell?
Paul was having trouble with dynamic constraints working as he expected...here is the advice that I gave him [This is a pretty new feature, so this is just based on my own fooling around...]
Paul, you have to have at least two bones in a "attached to parent" chain for the dynamics to work. If your ponytail bone is a single bone parented to the head it will drop straight down. But if you have two bones with dynamics on the child it will work beautifully!

Now I can get even less work done
I don't like that the animaster list rules still apply. Seems that now it is a forum, you could easily designate a bug report thread, an Off Topic thread, etc. and people wouldn't have to read what didn't interest them...
I thought that one of the rational for the list rules was to cut down the clutter in the inbox for list members. That doesn't seem to be relevant in this type of venue...

OT: Very OT - Wings3D - Can you reduce poly count?

I think that you can select a group of faces and "merge" them in Wings. But I don't think that it will be faster than deleting the splines once you get it into A:M...
