Ken Thank you that was clear enough. On a related subject. If I want to put a hold into an action Would I do it in the same sort of way? I've got a bit in another action where the figure is lifting its shoulder off the ground and, depite keying some pauses in, it still reads too quickly. If I use the f curve there it would put a pause in ? I've never got to the curves yet ! Have fun simon

Ken Thanks for th tip but, what do you mean exactly? Are you refering to the f curves functions in the PWS ? regards simon

I set up a walk cycle for the figure I've beenn animating ( WIP section ). When I test it in the action window it looks OK but, when I come to use it in the choreography window I get smal amounts of foot slide, which is very annoying. Is this a function of the step distance or is it the way I may have set up the cycle itself ? I did the tutorial in TAO book but slightly fuzzy about the area that I place the markers in for the step distance ? Any help greatly appreciated. cheers simon

Hehe. That was funny. Great job! Thank you. With luck, this should now contain all three parts. I was hopiing to make it into one but, when I went to Final cut ( which I bought on Ebay ) it said I Stuck_shoulder.movneeded an AGP graphics card, not amused ... simon Gum_Walk.mov Gum.mov

This is the first animation pass at an idea. still to come are the facial expressions and the finger movements and ( having just watched it through a few times ) preventing that sinking feeling in a few places. Its about 10-12 hours work but, any criticism welcome, good bad, or how could you ? regards simon
-
I'm not sure what you want to be critiqued on ? as you exclude the animation in the introduction ? The model looks good in itsself. I'm not really one to guage properly as the element of characateur (?) is not my sort of thing. Its obviously well made with a lot of attention to detail. The head hair in particular looks good . If you were animating again you might want to add some secondary motion to the hair to make the best of it (?). I was slightly more dubious about the red area on the inner thigh and the emphasis on the groin in general. I appreciate its part of that style though so, maybe thats just me (?) If you want to show your model to its full advantage it might be best to use a wider range of movement in the animation. If not confident in that are then perhaps by using an established action file, assuming you've used a standard skeletel rig + (?) Hope that is of assistence. regards simon

Robert Thank you very much indeed. I finally got it done. I think the mistake I was making- that was causing all the trouble _ was having the other objects in the scene selected for "shadows Only" as well (?) Thanks to you and Homeslice for your help. Much appreciated. Champion ( as they used to say in my home area, circa 1970's ) Simon

Homeslice I went away and tried it but had a beast of a time. I tried it on two computers both with the same result.... It locked uo the render before anything happened. 18 hours to render less than 1% equates to lockup when, in 'normal' mode, its taking 3 mins per pass ? I know its possible because I've done it before ( about 18months ago ) but its proving elusive now. Back to the mouse tomorrow. regards simon Ps Both machines running XP with service pack three installed and over 1GB of Ram ( I appreciated these are a bit dated but, needs must, when it comes to finances )

Thank you very much indeed I shall pursue that immeadiately. Cheers simon

In anothr project I have a model of a van that I wanted to animate with a constraint to a path. ( I am using V13, although I have V14) I apply the translate constraint and target it t the path but, how do I animate its position over time in a choreography. Or... Am I going about it the wrong way ( not unlikely ) regards simon

I made a building for a friends live action short. The time has come o composit it into the footage, someone else is doing this in After Effects but, needs me to supply a suitable render to work on. I am using v13 ( although I have V14 I have yet to install it). how do I render a file for compositing were I can put the shadows on a seperate Alpha channel or is this not possible ? regards simon

GAngus I have V14 but haven't installed it yet as I've been dealing with all sorts of other problems. Does it and V15 run with OSX 10:46 as well or, does it need another upgrade from that ? Thank you for your observations and help. regards simon

Problem solved, I found out you could DL the update and put it on CD. Thank you to all who helped. cheers simon

Its been a few weeks I know but, I managed to upgrade the Imac to 10:41 by buying it on Ebay. I tried to install AM but I got the same 10:46 message as before. That was expected but, I thought I'd check on my G5 Macbook and AM had installed with no problem on that, even though it only had 10:41 !!!. I'm using the same installer disc but it gives two different results. Is there a way around this ? regards simon Ps Neither Imac or Macbook is connected to the web at any time, so upgrading via that route is not straightforward. All access is done through an old PC for security reasons ( that and I'm a relative newcomer to Macs ...)

Why dont you let us know which model it is and give us a screencap of the area you are talking about, then we can help more. Eric Thank you for your kind reply. I will try to sort it out tomorrow as the computer with it on is in the studio ( garden shed ) behind the house and I don't have wireless connections. I've also got to do the domestic chores between now and midnight ( UK ). Oh joy of joys... Thank you Simon
