  1. Now you folks are really getting to me. lol. :D . I really dont know what to do.

I am giving myself to the end of this month to make up my mind which way to go. Whether to stay as I am and try and figure out the animating in my current 3d animation software (Hmm gets difficult when trying not to mention other stuff I have or use) which is not really an option as its headache inducing. <_>

I will continue to read and gather as much info as possible before deciding.

    Cheers

  2. ignore that last post, hmmm, I should have read the forum rules first.

No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.

(Where do I ask my questions then as my questions do relate to other software and usage with A:M)

    Cheers

  3. Hmmm. Yes I have read and looked at the tutorials on modelling in A:M. One thing did strike me as it seems (to me from a Curvy background) to be a slow although effective way to model.

Let me explain something. I too hate polygon modelling I cant work it out to any great degree either that is why I gave up trying 3D stuff. Then I got on the beta for this new 3d modelling software and instantly I could make models as I wanted them. e.g. I draw a front and back profile then a side profile and mirror it. I have the basic shape then I 'paint' in the details like eye socket and nose and mouth in real time and then paint the texture onto the model as I see fit. This is much more natural to me.

Currently playing around with Hamapatch and Jpatch to see what kind of stuff I can make and its a frustrating process so far. I understand that A:M is easier for many of these modelling things but I am still unsure whether I will really get any use out of it because I will have to model within A:M.

So still currently thinking whether to make the leap or not. So frustrating as the rendering and animation just looks so cool.

  4. SOrry. I didnt mean to imply another modeller to buy. But one that was similar in style for the modeling to see if I can get on with it. (A:M has no demo for me to try). The animation and rendering etc I am already sold on its just the modelling.

  5. Is there a modeller that has a demo that works pretty much the same as Animation Master for modelling?

I ask because I think there will be major problems importing my models into A:M from what I have read.

I need to see if I can get on with this type of modelling as its not something I have worked with before. (I know folks have said there is a 30 day money back guarentee etc but I live in the UK and the hassle of sending stuff back to the states doesn't fill me with confidence. lol)

SO I would like to get some idea before making up my mind as I dont generally get on with modelling at all.

    Cheers

  6. Head over to Curvy3D

That is the software I use for my modelling of characters.

I think If I can find a way to use these models in A:M then It will be the perfect solution for me. If not then what I have seens so far may tempt me anyway.

The one main reason I use Curvy for my models is because I have never been able to do 3d modelling in any other software. Does my head in trying to figure it out. lol.

I am one the beta testers for it so have access to other stuff not yet available to others.

    Cheers

  7. and you can import obj files and convert them to Hash splines.

If this is correct then I will be buying for sure. Only thing is this is the only area I can see where obj import is mentioned. I cant see that info on any of the official stuff. (I downloaded the manual to have a look at it and it doesnt mention obj import either) Why I am asking about this is speed. I can model a full body with head in about 10 minutes then I tweak what I have in 3rd party software. I dont really want to go back to hours on modelling again.

At least if the option is there to import the obj file format and convert it then tat would be ok. I dont mind tweaking.

  8. Currently I use Cinema 4D, curvy 3D (For modelling) and Carrara 1 on odd occasions.

Saying that I have been doing 3D since the end of last October and that was because suddenly I had the ability to actually make models because of Curvy.

I use Cinema 4D for some rendering but its toon like qualities without a huge outlay for a plugin is rubbish lol.

This is the kind of stuff I tend to do and now want to animate them.

If you need to have a workflow with other polygon based applications. it is not out of the question, others do this on a regular basis, just keep in mind it is not a simple one click solution. A:M has a fantastic if unique file format that is NOT based on polys. Going back and forth can be a challenge. It is a million times better than it use to be, just like the application.

I think from what I have seen animation master may be the tool for it BUT from what seems to have been said this may not be as straight forward as I hope!

  9. hmmm. Sounding better and better. (Hair is at alpha version. Is that the 2004 version of AM.)

So how long does it take to work out where every thing is on the website. lol. A wee bit disorganised...

Cheers. Doing more looking around the forums. I have downloaded the video stuff (I still would like to see the demo one though). Umm. sorry to whoever it is but the voice on the video's kind of puts me to sleep. :P

What formats can be imported into AM?

    Cheers

  10. Umm. I am reading through this site and am gobsmacked... It sounds like a dream application.

ALmost sounds too good to be true. If Its on a Cd and has a manual then I am sold. SO far no info on that. (I hate pdf manuals)

  11. If I purchase Animation Master what do I get. Is it a boxed copy with a manual?

IS there more than one version (Although I dont see any info on this other than on reviews).

Is there a full feature list?

e.g. does it have Global Illumination? Some pages seem to say yes others no.

Is there a version of the web demo that will actually play properly? It freezes half waythrough and that is even the locally stored copy. (I am on a 1mb connection so speed should not be the issue.

Does it do trees and plants and hair?

It looks promising from what I see.

Sorry for the multiple questions but I want to make sure I am purchasing the package I will actually get on with. So far my choices are Truespace 6.6, Animation Master, Zbrush or Carrara 3.

    Cheers
