Yeah, I know I need to upgrade. I just don't have the money right now. My friend gave my v7 when he upgraded, so I gotta come up with $300 to get the new version. But, for now, I'll just use the copy of v10 that he let me borrow while he's out of the country. But once he get's back, I needa get $300.

I am running WinXP Pro, and I have v7 of A:M. When the auto-run pops up to install A:M, it says I need service pack 3. The link it gives me doesn't exist. Now, I've never seen service pack 3, and so I don't have it. It isn't on windows update. I went on MS's webpage, and found SP3, but it says "the version of windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install". While it is possible to instll A:M without it, it crashes constantly, and takes forever to copy/paste or save (things it didn't used to take long doing).
Does anyone else here have XP? Or can someone help me out?
[EDIT]Oh, and it may be good to mention, I'm running an OEM Win XP Pro[\EDIT]

My E-Mail account only allows me to send attachments of up to about 5MB, or so.
Thus, I really need to know if there is any other way to get the entry to where it needs to go. I tried the FTP site listed in another thread, but it says I don't have permission to access it.
HELP??
-
So, how do I know if my video is in a cross-platform codec? I only have on platform.
-
Where does one go to get a program that will convert an AVI to a "Quicktime format using a cross-patform CODEC"?
-
So, at what point did you sell your soul to the Devil to get those skilz?
-
As messed up as that is, I think it rocks hard-core!!
-
Possibly when you made the character in modeling mode, you may have ended up with a group that was copied over the pre-existing project. One set of mesh being boned and the other not. Try checking in the modeling mode for an extra copy of your character.

YAY!!!
Thank you Javier!!!!

Ohh, you have AM 7.x .
Yeah, A:M may be cheap for an animation program, but I still don't have the cash to upgrade.
YAY! It worked!
Thaaaank Yooooou! I have materials again!
/me is overjoyed
-
The second one has the look of a classic. I like classic cars, so I love it.
Nice work!
-
If u just want to apply a material then just drag and drop it unto the group name....
Yes, I know that's the way it's supposed to work, but it isn't. In the pic you can see that the material is applied to the group, but isn't rendering as anything. It looks the same when it's set to "cylindrical". If I set it to "spherical", it will render, but as lines streaking out from the middle of the object. Far from what I'm wanting.
-
Ummm.... help? Anyone? Please?
Or, is there any other way to apply a material to a surface? Without having to make it a decal. I hate those things...
I could post a picture of my screen, though I don't know what that would tell you...

Dang, 4 days??
I'm still trying to get the truck I'm working on to be half-way decent, and I've been working on it for weeks!
It looks great. So does the fender (that is the fender, right?) of the new one.
Keep up the good modeling!
-
I can't get projection maps to apply as anything but spherical. I don't know what's up, probably me being an idiot somehow. I was wanting either a difuse map, or a color map (or both) but I can't get them to actually show up on my model unless I have the interpolation set to spherical. Otherwise, it doesn't show up at all. Any ideas as to what might be going wrong?

The only guideline that I know of is that you must Interpret the word 'space' and create an animation from that; no specific modals or scenarios. make sure it's 320 by 240 in a cross platform codec, and can be any length.
Hokay!
Oh, yeah, alright. I just got paranoid when I saw the "specific charicter" thing.
Thanx ppl.

Well, as if there aren't enough testimonials here already, for some odd reason I felt compelled to give my thoughts.
I was always in awe looking at movies and whatnot that were computer animated. I never thought I'd actually be able to do anything like them. While I haven't been animating for long, and I don't have the mony to upgrade from V7.0, A:M is so easy to use that I have made some pretty cool models and animations. I haven't looked into any other programs, and I don't see the need to. I don't thik it's possible to get better than this, and definatly not for the price.
Alright, so there's my two cents.

In the "Animation Contest" section of the Hash site, it says "Each month, an animation exersize/topic, often with reference material and a specific character, will be given to the mailing list"
I'm on the maling list, and I haven't gotten anything reffering to the animation contest, let alone anything about "refferance material or a specific charicter". I was thinking about making something to enter this month, but I don't want to waste my time making something that doesn't include something it needs to.
So, basically, I was wondering what the requirements for submitting an animation are.
-
Yeah, for some reason I always forget that. I don't know why....
Now my next question is, there's no way to make a 5 point patch with a hook, is there? Cuz otherwise, I'm going to have to make, well... this is the whole model. So, unless I'm being an idiot, moving the 5pt would make me have to continue the 5pts all the way up, right? Or is there simply a better way to make this in the first place? If so, I'm not stuck on the wireframe I've got right now.
Edit: Heh, never mind. I had an epiphany. I just bumped up the lathe cross-sections to 8, instead of 4. problem solved.
Thank you guys, for showing me the obvious that I couldn't see.
-
Yeah, I would have posted a shaded version but, as you can see, it doesn't render.
It looks.... well.... let's just say, a couple years ago (when I first made this model), I would have thought it looked fine. But I'm really trying to make this thing actually look good. There are two nasty looking creases at the top and bottom. On second thought, I'll just show it.
What the... great. it picks now to not work.... *sigh* anyway, yeah, there are wierd creases on it...
Hoo boy... Ok, so it was working....
Although you can't see it as well, due to the crappy job MS Paint does at making jpgs, but you can still kinda see that there are creases on the top and bottom there...
-
I have modeled the head finally. But I am not very satisfied with it
That do you think?
I could do better...
J/k
Naw, I, personally, think it looks tight.
What don't you like about it?
I guess it might look a little plain, just cuz the rest of the body is so detailed. Perhaps you could find a way to put more gears/pistons/mechanically stuff on it? I dunno.... I think the whole thing looks great.

A:M ON XP
in (2003-2004)
Posted
LOL, you guys.
My friend's been using A:M since... v4 I believe... and, needless to say, he's not gonna stop animating any time soon. So, I'm gonna have to come up with the $299. Too bad I didn't have the money to buy it before the price went up. Then it'd be like having a free upgrade.
Man, having used only v7, 2004 is SO much nicer!!
I need $299.....
