  1. Alright I'm dying here. I do not know how to turn my model into a Jpeg I have read thru the tutorials book and I must be missing it. I have searched the newbie forum just can't find it. I am sure once you tell me I will dislocate my leg kicking my self but any help would be very much appriciated. Thanks in advance, Helo.

    Hi Helojammer,

Get your model positioned just the way you want it then click on 'render to file'. Make sure the advanced options is checked then select the file type of jpg. Then enter where you want the file to go (desktop is easy) and enter a file name. Now there's a lot of render options but if you are in the modeling window you can probably just click on 'okay' or 'render' or what ever the button says and in a short time you will have a jpg image of your model.

    Hope that helps,

    Rusty

and by get into position he means right the way you want it if in model view and looking through the cammera in choreo mode

  2. when i lathe a model and draw a box around the object, not all cp's turn green and if i try to move or adjust it, the model gets all distorted.

any ideas what i am doing wrong?

id check and make sure some of the points arnt locked , if they are theres generally Grey

  3. all right my first real movie has hit a bit of a problem , i have one part where for lack of a better word a motor cycle jumps off a hill and lands in some sand causing a track and a bit of a indent , only problem is the sand itself is a pretty basic flat plane with the texture on it , is there a way that an object in the way of the indent i would want could push the surface into the shape i want with out remodeling the ground ?

  4. ok thanks to all your help i finaly have enough models, materials and special effects i need to render a movie, ( there will be more questios as thry come up so your not off the hook yet) my next question is how would i make certain items stay with the camera to make the apperance of a hud ( heads up display ) it will have about 5 differant parts that will have moving/changing parts themselfs and i cant think of a way to do it

  5. OK i have been using materials for some time know and have some pretty cool effects , one part that still eludes me is to make the materials have shapes , such as hexagons , i know this can be done as iv seen models with this type in the archives but i cant find out how to do it my self and i don't know and key words for the search that would match

  6. just wondering if any one knows but i need to know if a . gif format will support having a alpha channel , when i get home i want to try and make an animated gif that has transperant background parts and though i should ask first so i don't get my hopes up

  7. OK iv heard in many post that one can use a texture map to make different types of materials , say I'm looking to make a material of hexagons with a small white area in between them is this what texture mapping can do ?

  8. id suggest that just to test and see if its just the decal / patch's , you move the decal to a random place on the face and render , may look silly but if every thing renders correctly then its the location , if not its the decal itself.

also you might want to post the model so that some of are more experty users (robcat) can take a look , if for reason that we don't need to know about you cant simple say that.

  9. ok iv been experimenting with the boolean cutter and know can make some pretty good looking impact scars now, what i need know is the ability to apply a secondary material to the model so that the inside of the part that is cut away shows the secondary material. ie i blow up a metal wall and the freashly showing metal has a differat texture than the normals wall

  10. as some one who works with game models i to have encountered the slowness wall that comes from having a lot of items in am and i have a few suggestions , note that some may not apply

1 make a model/choreograph as simple as it can be

2 in choreograph mode have 40 copy's of one model not 1 copy that has 40 models in it that way when you modify one of these "people" it doest have to redraw the entire 40 selection

3 if your modifying a model in its own window( not in choreograph) never use the shaded / shaded wire, mode as this will cause the model to be completely redrawn every time , which can take up to 20 seconds and am becomes unresponsive till its done

4 if your working on a big model, use the hide button to remove all but a small area around the target area this greatly reduces render check times making it go faster

5 if at all possible try not to have 40k+ patches in a model , unfortunately for me some models iv extracted from games have this much and not only does it take a very long time to import bu it can take up to 2-3 Min's just to go from wire frame to shaded

6 after every major modeling victory save the file as a completely new name , i have unfortunately lost quite a bit due to a project eventually failing apart due to slow corruption due to unknown reasons , which will not only slow u down but send you back wards.

please note that all of these suggestions come from managing game models which are big and bulky to begin with so may not apply to smaller models that are hand written.

Update: after i managed to download the church file it opened quite easyaly and rendering time was really fast which lead me to anothe rpossable problem which would be the hard ware doing the rendering , you may have to face the fact that your computer may not be powerful enough to render a larger file very quickly but so far the stage looks pretty good

    Capture.JPG

this is a quick render of it

  11. OK i have a object that glows which shines a near prefact circular glow onto the floor , i was wondering if there was any way to make that glow stretch across the floor with out modifying the item actually emitting the glow

  12. OK on the side of my main projects i have a project designated for stuff i just come up with bout 12 models in various stages of compilation. when i was trying to come up with a set of materials that would look like a cool shield when AM crashed , now ever time i try and load said project AM auto-crashes , i know theres not much of a chance getting it back but i hope theres a shot.

  13. while I'm still a newby to AM and its functions I'm pretty good with getting programs to work , but in order to help we need more info any of the options below may help or spark an idea from are many users

    mac, PC, other

    operating system /version

    32bit/64bit

    hyper-secure or lax security settings

    default installation directory or custom

there may be others but those would be the basics for know

if you want a few steps to try id suggest completely uninstalling am , manually deleting the folder if you must , if your on vista try a new user account just to see if you may have a CD allocation error , vista packs every thing per user account so a new one may fix this

    my 3 cents

  14. I'm not currently at home atm so i cant draw a pic but i can describe sorta what i need , think of a jet flying really fast on the tip of its wings it always gets those cloud streaks that make it look really cool , what i need is a way to do that but make those streaks follow a line that i can myself control

  15. ok i know that its going to take a sprite based effect to pull of the plasma bullet effect im going for , what i want is to have a spining gloing bullet shape followed by 2 rotating plasma trails , thats the part i cant figure out , i though i could use 2 splines but have yet to get them to actualy work with them

  16. OK as many of you know i import models from 3dmax (game 3d designer) to work with them in AM , this however has a effect similar to a blender as 3D uses polygons while AM uses splines , and during the conversion process AM assigns splines based on the polygons points and while the outcome resembles the original models it does have the aforementioned blendered effect. one thing that might help clean it up would be the ability to select several current CPs and then make a line between them automatically possible removing the previous line segments. is there a hot key command or something of the such that will do this or will i need to use the old fashioned manual method?

  17. ok iv been doing some pretty good materials over the holidays but one still eludes me , which its the water one, the best that i came up with was a ball that had what looked like a liquid form on the bottom and then become encased in it but not flow like water should , can some one post the settings to make water flow as if from a hose please.
