  1. Why don't you just copy your SO folder tree from your old hard drive to your new one? If you copy all the svn files/folders as well as the other stuff, you should have to re-download the whole data tree again. .... or did your old hard drive fail?

No the drives still good, but I dont have a pc/cables that I can slave or attatch the drives to. I have another pc arriving soon, but I had to "downtech" so I can carry on this modelling. Course I had to slam in some extra ram, but Its still workable. Cept I can no longer run CS3 because it needs 2 gigs of ram

Ken I was refering to the ground/trees interior. I havnt made the scale adjustments to the exterior yet, plus I dont know what you had planned

  2. Thanks Ken - thats exactly what I did - after I first ran out of disk space, downloading the files again took most of the weekend!

Can you advise me on the changes / extras youve added since I've been awol?

    Cheers m8

  3. Martin,et al.

I am unable to upload to svn or work on Bumpy's house , probably for the next week. I'ts not that I don't want to , but I have no pc with AM on it at the moment due to a serious Motherboard problem. Anything not on svn is backed up here, and I will be back on it as soon as the pc is up and running. I just dont want to have the status changed if it can be avoided

I would also like to have a go at tweening once I have finished the house.

    Alll the best,

    Chris

  4. Another quick update just playing around with shapes and textures.I have most of the model parts on svn now, as well as an assemble action for a proxy house and detail house. I wont add any textures yet.

I will ensure the doors are ok with bumpyman.

  5. Ramblings:----

Sorry for lack of progress on this thread. Ive been in Spain for a week, then had to pop off unexpectedly down to Brighton on family buisness-

At the moment, I've made a quick proxy based on the J Christenen pictures - I also spent some time looking at Gaudi architecture in Barcelona. I had seen him mentionioned in another thread, and I wondered weather his organic style could lend something to the cottage -DSC01462.JPG

Anyway at the moment I'm just playing with ideas - I textured a small model, to see if there was enough detail in the mesh before doing a bit more.first_look0.jpgfirst_lookb0.jpg

I'me around the UK a lot over the next three weeks, so I will work when I can.

  6. I'm going to have a go at this model as long as no -one else is already on it - If there are any sketches or reference out there could someone point me in the right direction?

  7. ---encouregment mode----

As an instructor you will understand that the more you practice, the better you get and to try not to be discouraged if you cant do everything you want to straight away -it takes a lot of time and effort to be a virtuoso. I have been animating for some time and there are lots of things I still dont understand -I just know a bit more than when I started.

    ---end encouregment mode----

sky & ground The ground colour is just the default colouron the lights - try shortcut to rim/colour/change it.

In the default mode in the choreography window the "sky"is just the background colour of the camera

open the CHO window, go to cameras, background, click on the colour and change it.For further effects you could try importing a picture into am, then dropping it onto the cho as a layer. You can then manouver it around till it looksa right -experiment -use google heres one I found on layers

    http://www.mossor.org/Desktop/Tutorials/Layers/layers.html

Lighting is a huge concept. The three lights in the cho system is,suprisingly, known as three point lighting- try googling....http://www.3drender.com/light/3point.html explains it well.Digital Lighting & Rendering

By Jeremy Birn is one of my most thumbed books

Cameras: Tutorials try googling cinematography tutorial

  8. I read both answers to this question, and it took me ages to realize that they were both almost saying the same thing.

I think, though, that the prize for the most succinct answer should go to Vern.

    But....

Sometimes you get a pop on an action cycle caused by differences in the entry/exit position on the motion channel drivers(time line graphs). If we look at one bone in an action cycle I can illustrate what I mean.

In the first picture,Action 1 was made using copy/paste in the normal way.new_1.jpgIt lasts from 00:00 to 01:24, with 01:23 being the set range end.

If you look at the entry and exit angles for the bias handles on the Y axis motion channel on first and last point in the time line graph on the second picture, you can see that the angle made does not match.new_2.jpgIn a cyclic action this can give an annoying blip at this point-specially if its something like the hands or feet in a walk cycle.

The second action is almost identical, but without the blip.new_3.jpgThis was made by copying the first 16 frames to 01:24, and a sort of reverse process from frame 00:00 to -00:08. The motion graph now approaches the cp from both sides in the same way.If you just key the bones at their position on frame 00:01:23, deleting all the keys on frame 00:01:24, you still get the spline problem.

Feel free to ignore this, its subtle, and comes under the heading of "Tweaking"

  9. I think most people would require a bit more information before quoting you a price.

Before I quote I always ask to see a sketch of the character(s), as well as some sort of idea of the final look.

Also what sort of time-frame you wish to work in.When you say "all" functions -what exactly do you require-my idea of "all" probably wont be the same as yours.Maybe youve worked with characterand can say"rigged like KeeKat"

What is Ex muscle -is that no muscle?

-skeletal -I presume you mean rigging,

facial -do you mean rigged for speach or just eyebrows and if speech Phenomes or Osipa?

  10. I was getting A.M closing down on startup with the error code "system clock has been set back (-40)",after I changed the system clock for 2 hrs or so to test an excel files for correct behavior.

It's all to do with the new security system. The program scans your computer in search of "future files",anything created, modified or accessed at a future time.If it finds any it terminates the load AM routine. I am not sure wether its just certain files, or just any file changed after the current time/date.

With the help of technical support and Will Pickering, I was able to fix the problem, so as a kind of payback, I shall pass it on.

    This is what I did(P.C. only, I don't know about the mac,sorry.)

    You need to:-

1)Go to Start/Control Panel/Folder Options/View/click "show hidden files and folders.

2)I verified that the clock was set to the correct time and date and carried out the searches after 10 pm so that tomorrows date would be less than 4hrs after current time(ie searches for files >4hrs ahead)

2)Start/Search/all files and folders/when modified/specify dates/modified date/FROM Tomorrow's date TOTomorrow's date,2099.Use More Advanced Options/Search System Folders + Search Hidden Folders+search sub-Folders.)after PM(that way you can search for files created hrs later than current time/date) and search for any files modified after current date(windows only lets you search by date rather than time, hence the reason for the 10PM curfew).

2)If you find any, you need to either delete them(and then run a cleaner program to remove them from the recycle bin(I used CCleaner, a nice freebie available from here:-CCleaner. If you don't want to delete them, unfortunately windows wont allow you to change the details of when a file has been created, modified or accessed, you must use an attribute changer.I used AttributeMagic Free

Some of the system files are a hard to change since they are constantly in use(c\windows\preftech). Funnily enough,my mswinsck.osc dated from 1901. I must have the oldest computer ever!

I had found all files that were future dated, created or modified, but one file kept appearing in the search even though its attributes(created, modified,or accessed) were set correctly. When I replaced it, AM started properly.Yay!

    I wish you success,

    Chris

  11. Thanks for that,Caroline. I usually just click "show normals" then spend ages peering at the little yellow pointers trying to establish the direction on tiny curved patches. This way is much easier.

    Chris

  12. Customer support can do amazing things - they have rescued model files for me in the past. Of course theres no garantee. but it might be worth a shot. There are a few add ons that back up am to a seperate drive or folder available. Prjsaver.exe saves numbered versions of a project to a seperate file, and saver.exe, although written for AM will save multiple versions of any file on windows.

    Chris

  13. Why not make one -its fairly simple.ditto with the bed.

Also requests for help are more likely to be granted with sweetness.Saying"whereisone" will not get me looking
