  1. Nice work...I'm impressed! I can't wait to see him in action either!

    A few notes:

    1. Do you have photoshop? It looks like your textures that you're using now could be used as a bump map. If you did that then you could green up the map in photoshop, add some color detail and then save it seperately and use it as a color map.

    2. The black parts look completely black (RGB 0,0,0) I would make it a lighter black (and maybe a little roughness) so the details could really come out.

    3. If you added a little specular intensity and size to the whole model that would look really cool (espially if you used a bump map on the armor parts).

    Keep up the good work!

I'll try that all later once i figure out if the decals move okay, or if they brake. Thanks so much for the info tho! i knida panned on editing in photoshop more once i have everything set. What i DO need to know is how do you do a bump map? Isn't there some way to make the decals like... pop out of the model? I'm asking because i want to keep the spline count extremely minimal for the actual action packed scenes im planning.

  2. Very nicely done David. Looks like you were really working to keep the spline count down while still getting lots of detail - bravo. Wait, did I see another render with a black background? Well, I forgive you this time, since I can actually see the model in this one ;)

I'm really looking forward to the first few action clips. Keep up the great work.

ps. Save your attachments as jpg's, bmp's are too big and take too long to load.

Yeah, i ended up pressing "render as BMP sequence" instead of JPG sequence the first time, caught myself and reposted the JPG one. I found out last time that bmps are too big. Thanks though :D

  3. sure you can match it?

Yeah, definately. I have it scaled to the actual body with the textures! I'm really looking forward to getting this guy all cleaned up and ready for display. I have the entire body done, but there are a lot of parts i need to re-trace and smooth out. I'd show you what i have so far, but i didn't get a chance to post it yesterday.

  4. i feel like it needs to be more....bulkier...manly and less teenager or 20yr old....

Yeah, a lot of the reason that he doesnt seem to have any mass is that i haven't done any of the neck plating and padding yet. When that's in place it will look a lot more like the good ol' chief.

  5. i will try. :D

i dont know if your going for your own look but there are no pipes on his helmet. ;)

Yeah, I was looking at the Halo3 images and he DOES have pipes for oxygen, but they are under metal plating, so i'm still going to have to make the plating for it some time, but i'm glad you noticed.

  6. Thanks, I understand....and agree!

As a newbie, the decal is nothing more than a jpg that is then applied to model.

Where directory should I place the jpg so I will be able to see it in A:M and then apply it to the model?

    Thanks again, Bob

Under the "Project workspace" (Alt+3) You'll find an "images" folder. If you double click on that, it should let you upload an image. As for where to put the file, make sure it's in the same folder as your project... sometimes projects can do messed up stuff when you dont have the picture and the project together...makes total sense XD

  7. Hi Everyone,

I am making a Honey Pot and I would like the 3D Text to sit on the outside surface of my pot. Instead of using decal, I want the text to have 3d thickness.

Would anyone know how to do this?

Also, I lost the model 3x when I hit the undo button two times in a row. I thinking it might be related to the curled in top surface. Was I going too fast? Have you ever run into this before?

    Thanks, Bob

Probably the most irritating way to do this, would be to curve and fit the CP's of the 3-D text. The most simple way to do this would to not use A:M text, but instead to use a program such as photoshop or paint to make DARK GREY lettering "Hunny" Then to copy that text, and Paste it as BLACK LETTERING and have it over it, so it gives it a 3-D shadowing effect, Then you can Apply that image as a decal. This is probably the method i'd use... but im lazy :D

  8. There is nothing sad about it, as a matter of fact, I really like it. The model looks pretty good from this angle, but I think you can make it even better if you change the camera angle a bit. Show more of the bike's profile, it looks like you put some work into it and it should be seen.

Alrite, I'll try that out a little later... right now im trying to make a movie with the Cross Model

I'm having a hell of a time trying to make bones for it and it's becoming extremely irritating...

  9. One thing is that it is way to hard to look at. The hero gets jumbled into the scene and it takes the eye a long time to find him, and then it's confused because he blends a little too much into the background. Make the model noticable at once, the eye has to jump to the focus the moment you look at it. When I saw it, my eye jumped to the sword. Make it less prominent and the character more defined and emphasized from the background. I would suggest just looking up general design techniques on the web or something, as it will help the composition of the scene. Your models are very good, it's just the composition that is lacking.

I will do that... I thought it was a little too jumpy, the thing was that i was trying to hide him. you know? but you're right, maybe a more defined pose, better lighting, not jsut focusing on the sword. I think that I'll try that right now, thanks for the compliment too!

  10. David:

from this render it's really hard to analyze the model. Even for an advertising poster it's a bit too dark. People want to see the product in clear detail and AM users would like to see a wireframe on a bright background to give you crits on your work.

If you are planning on entering your work in a contest, it's usually a good idea to keep it under wraps. Part of the contest's allure is that the creators aren't revealed until judging is complete, which also helps in keeping judging unbiased. This is not a written rule though, and you can post your progress if you like.

    Eric

Alrite, yeah, still a newbie with the whole idea and consept of it... I'll light up the background and re-render in wireframe.

Thanks for your patience with all of this... I know its pretty rough at the moment.

  11. Again, I can't really comment on the model, although what I can see looks pretty good. How long have you been working with AM? What other 3D experience have you had?

Not really any other experience with 3-D programing, really, yeah, 'n sorry bout the pressure XD I was just wondering if you had any suggestions.

I've been working with A:M for only about 8 months but this project took me about a week. I'd started on it right when i heard about this Hero contest and I had a huge idea in mind.
