Gary Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 Hey List, I'm modeling a character in 10.5k+ and I'd like to get some advice as to how I can close some patches and avoid the artifacts visible in the attached picture. I've made sure that none of the intersections are peaked but I can't seem to get a smooth surface Thanks for any help. Gary Quote
ZPiDER Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 dont solve this problem the poly way. lose the spline that runs down from the top, then you got a 5-cp-hole. select all cps and make it a 5pt patch. one remark: for the detail you are currently showing, you could have built this boot with considerably less patches which will pay off later at rendering time. Gary Posted October 5, 2003 Author Posted October 5, 2003 Could I simply remove every other vertical loop and still retain the detail? What about the horizontal splines? It doesn't seem like I can remove any of them without losing detail. Do you have anything similar you could post as an example? Thanks again, Gary Quote
John Keates Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 Here is a shoe that I made. It is about as simple as I could make it with a resonable amount of detail. I use a fair few hooks and 5point patches. Quote
John Keates Posted October 6, 2003 Posted October 6, 2003 Here is your shoe with lines drawn where I would put splines. The five point patch is in green. Keep at it. Quote
