how to do clothing, hats, helmets, etc.?

hello. i was wondering could anyone point to a tute which addresses how i can model or animate an actor who has to either put on or take off clothing? for example, if i were to do a Superman model and i wanted him to do his famous "rip open shirt to expose the "S" shield", how is this done? or how about if he was fighting a villain who had on a helmet and was taking it off? thanks.

In regards to taking off the helmet, check out the Hash Video Tutorial, "constraints and compensate mode" found at http://www.s1.hashmirror.com/ftp/VM/ThomCo...constraint.html It shows a character picking up a teapot and moving it to another location. Very similiar to taking off a helmet and leaving it on a table or something...

 

As far as the superman and shirt thing, I really dont know, although I would experiment with Muscle mode... Animating the CPs of the shirt as he pulled it open... just a guess tho...

In the 'rip-the-shirt-open' motion you would probably be down to one of two options.

 

1. As Wizaerd stated, using muscle mode to animate the CP's to corrispond to the movements of the hands pulling them open. (Hands moved in skeletal mode first).

 

2. Following the guides in the tech talk series on cloth, you could create anchors to the hands for parts of the cloth and let the cloth do the rest.

 

NOTE: The cloth would require more experimentation and would probably not be the right choice for a production schedule.
