Roughy
so...after discussion various cloud making methods for ages, i sat down for...4hours or so and ended up with these things thats 23 planes >_<, all with displacement maps. first one look pretty good, second attempt looks..dunno whats going on there. might be the position of the light..might have something to do with the toon shader (i just dont like normal render >_< ). thing took 26min to render so its kinda hard to figure out stuff like that.. ill try to render a small vid of it overnight.....hopefully ^^
Dearmad
One word: JohnArtbox. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...hl=pills&st=45# http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?act=A...e=post&id=40970 His technique for jittering the edges to his cloudy shapes might work very well. There's another image he did of a Knight and Magician walking up some stairs to a castle in the clouds that I can't find quickly, but it has even better clouds. KenH
You might be onto something with that cloud. I wonder if it would work in cloud-like shapes.
Mr. Jaqe
Looks very nice, I really like how the shadow hits the cloud-surface, if you can just make it a bit softer...
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted September 13, 2005 Hash Fellow Share Posted September 13, 2005 I like #1. what's causing the grit on the side of the sphere? I suppose you could work up animated maps for the layers to make some cool cloud movement.
Roughy
dunno what caused the grid. it was a preview render (multipass, 1pass) though, which is prolly the cause aaanyway gave it a few big bumps on the side there and inreased the displacement % . darkness prolly has to do with the toon shader part (custom one), and then again shadow darkness is set to 80%....
