Need help

I am a fairly new AM user (bought 2004 version) my problem is the final render looks "plastic" to me ...... any suggestions?

 

 

I am using 11.1i

 

I have 3 lights, Volumetrics on on all 3

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here is a frame from a animation .... "Star Trek" based obviously.

First, obvious and simple answer that popped into mind:

 

- star is behind the planet... so, planet should be mostly in shadow and only have one rim of light at the edge...

 

...or, The Enterprise has one hell of the headlights!!!

i'd concentrate on the the atmosphere layer... do i see a faint fractal combiner there? make it a little less transparent, and - as noted - almost all of that planet would be unlit by the star/sun.

 

i caution against lens flairs as a rule, but i think it helps the whole retro feel of the ol' ncc 1701.

Yeah, it is perfectly possible that this planet might have two stars...

 

However: (Physics has proven that) Due the complex interplay of gravitational forces, those planets (in dual star systems) tend to transform to the kind of carbohydrate compound in the popular language known as plastic ;oP
