Dagooos Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 When you release TSM2 with scripting language. Will you be able to write a script that will convert a TSM1 Rig into a TSM2 rig? I have a ton of characters rigged with TSM1 that would love to be updated to take advantage of the new features of TSM2. It would also be cool to have a script that converts the AM2001 rig. I was just curious if you guys were thinking of this? Thanks Quote
anzovin Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Not sure the scrpting language has the scope to do all that. The problem is not merely converting the rigs themselves, but also preserving weighting, smartskin, cogs, and face rigs, if any. A script would have to recognize everything that anyone had added; no trivial task. But we will discuss it. Keeping pre-rigged models with all the smartskin, weighting, and intermediates is still the best course; that way they can be rigged again and again. Steve Anzovin Studio Quote
Morgan Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 I have to back Steve up on this, unfortunately. Taking out one rig and putting another in would be no problem, if the underlying bones were the same -- but they're not. The new features required a new system of underlying bones, so even having a copy of your pre-rigged TSM1 model won't help you much, if you wanted to re-rig it in TSM2. I wish there were a way to automate conversion even at that level, but I'm afraid it's just not possible. -Morgan Quote
anzovin Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 However, we will take great pains to make sure future versions of TSM will be backward compatible with TSM2. Of course, that depends on Hash not substantially changing its weighting and rigging systems. Steve Anzovin Studio Quote
