  1. All i meant was... whatever you were using, switch to the other. got it thanks. its all working well.
  2. so here is a test flight with multi-pass off. it rendered in about 5 min. in the past with multi-pass on it took about 8hrs. im not sure if i see a difference in quality as from what i have read there should be. all that said im happy to say i see no dot or black holes in the ship. what could be happening using multi pass that would cause a black hole. im thinking some kind of alpha channel effect created from multi-pass? test_ship.mov
  3. since were on the subject what the heck is multi-pass? lol. ive been leaving it on not really knowing what it was for. i tried rendering just now and omg its rendering about 20 times faster than ive ever seen. im rendering the whole scene just to see if the black dot will show in this mode. at any rate do i need multi-pass?
  4. try multi-pass/not multipass. i only see multi-pass in the render options. i cant see multipass. my setting in multi-pass is on. set to 16(4x4) soften on. is this right?
  5. so im having a hard time trying to combine the sparkles materials in a scene. basically i have a space ship. i want a trail of sparkles to follow it. easy so far? well the sparkles for some reason have been causing large black dots or holes on the space ship. turning the sparkles off seem to render fine, no holes. so i figure ill just render the sparkles separate and alpha channel them in. problem solved.... except the sparkles dont show on an alpha export. i have to turn the alpha channel off to see them.... is this an expected result? sparkles materials dont show in alpha?
  6. so im have a devil of a time trying to get a dress on my character. i thought maybe i could use cloth to move around and or bounce off so when he walks or sits or bends over in will move as a real dress would but it just seems to wrap around like a diaper. are there any tuts on this ? heeeeeeeeeeeeelp. dress_test.prj test_dress.mov

  8. when you apply smart skin should i use multiple applications? in other words one smart skin for when the arm is down and another for arm up and yet another for arm forward.....or should i try to do all positions with one smart skin? mike
  9. use quicktime if your rendering a video. and as mentioned above once quicktime is chosen the alpha channel on/off is in the output options. i like to bring my alpha video into another program to overlay it onto another video. this is useful and cuts down the render time. but if your camera does not move i believe you can drop a video onto the camera itself and the video will replace the sky....i have not done that much as i like to put my alpha video rendered from AM into something like final cut pro or adobe premiere.(note you may have to tell the program its an alpha) now there is another aspect here....shadows!!! how do you get them to render onto the video overlay....there is a way...ive seen a tut here with a rabbit crossing a street it was amazing......they did something like render out shadows separate.

  11. okay ill take a look tonight. i was wondering what you used to track the audio. like you said i can write it in manually. ive given up using the mouth poses as i found that my old model really did not work as well. im going to just use a single slider to control the color. i have to get this thing done as there will be a big show at the universal city walk on the 25th. they will show this thing on a large jumbo tron for an intro to the teenie tones live show....
  12. i just want to add there was no bug in 15 F. and the old decal problem i had in 15e is gone. very happy about that. im not sure at the moment why i was have the color pose problem. i took a look at my previous model that worked and the only difference was that i made port holes in the space ship that were connected to the ship via splines. the holes were then grouped and color poses were created. i think that because they were connected to the main body that was not part of the pose, it somehow stablized the color. ill do a test to justify this possibility.

  14. that would make since and seems to be exactly whats happening. the only problem is that i have a model that i did this with and it works.....i think i had better take a look at my old model now that i have a basic idea where the problem is. thanks for helping.
  15. okay so i have seem to confirm a issue possible. here is a simple ball model. i have applied colors to the pose sliders. after you manipulate a few of the sliders the colors seem to wash out. let me know if you see this to. thanks color_pose_test.prj
  16. i have a starship with some round windows around it. i want them to change color using the dope sheet as if the colors were talking. not sure but maybe there is a bug in 15F? it seems to not be able to hold my colors in the poses. im going to try some basic tests to see if just the model that has issues. but if any one has seen this let me know. thanks
  17. im making a spaceship and wanted rays of light to come out of the bottom. i made one light that i like. is it possible to copy the bone light to make multiple lights that have the same properties?
  18. i was told this will be fixed. try baking the decals. it seem to work for me.
  19. ive made a library. how do i create one of those .lib files for it so i can move it to another system?
  20. so im looking at my vista 64 install and it seems to be the same. is it possible that the extras DVD was never linked to its materials folder? at this point im creating a new folder and creating short cuts to the materials.
  21. ive been having some problems here. last night i lost my materials in the library. i tried everything and finally reinstalled windows clean. after getting AM back i was able to get the library/materials to show up from the tin woodsman CD data but cant get them to show up via "extras DVD" anyone seeing this? the models show up just no materials.
  22. let me know what ive done here. the new rigged bones dont seem to be apart of the model. there must be a simple step i missed. BonelessThom_test.mdl

  24. here i have used smart skin mode and applied the euler constraint. you can see my settings. and in the action window the arm bone is holding. i assume that if its working in the action window then maybe it will be ok in a chor. will have to test. being really ignorant when it comes to rigging i hope this is at least one proper method to go about it....your advice would be welcome.
