  1. I'm not to sure if this is the right place to post this but i am not sure where else to put it.

I am currently setting up my personal website where i can post all my animations for exercises plus anything else done with A:M.

I have already put a link on there for the Hash website for people to go to,but my main question is can i also add a link to the TWO website.I really would like to promote this great project done by the Hash community but was not sure if i was allowed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Please note the site is still under construction and may change shortly.

    Cheers

  2. Right on Jay. I like the "going the extra mile - above & beyond the call of duty" attitude. I especially like those sky-lights, I'm currently working on my house putting sky-lights in the living room :D

I love the intro and the credits, very nicely done. Can't wait to see the finished work.

    Good job.

    Cheers Dhar,

One thing i am really proud of is the lighting.I spent around a day and a half experimenting to get the right look, the main lights were done with two lights at the same intensity, height & width with one being a yellow and the other being a light blue.Iused a key light in behind the door to give some light to shaggy when he is interacting with it(it was too dark without it) and a light at the back of the gallery to enhance the space again in light blue. The actual editing of the piece was done in Windows Movie Maker(and was sorely needed). The piece has approx 20 or so seconds left to run to complete the scene and do the reveal which i think will be quite good,i just need to take a break and chill out from all the mistakes i made getting this far.

Exercise Completed:Exercise 6 The door is stuck

    Date Completed:14/7/2006

    Instructor:The Manual(which i didn't read thoroughly)

Remarks/Suggestions for improvement:None really, the manual has it pretty much covered(make sure you read it though!)

Oh Boy where do i start on this.If you are going to do a scene with multiple camera shots do the following:

    1)Do a story board

2)Do timings for the story board

3)Make sure you can do the animation you want to create,i.e.Practise before you commit to render any of the scenes.

4)Make copy's of the project so if you make a complete dog's dinner of a Chor you wont spend hour's re-creating the set.

5)Have a sense of humor when it all goes **** up.And promise to make it again when you have gotten over the six day's spent trying to do something you are not ready to do just yet.

Here it is in all it's unfinished glory. :o

  4. Hello dave ,What is exactually the problem with your backround image?

If you can explain more we/someone may be able to help!

    Jay :D

I would like to just be able to paste an image as a background, such as the stars, or a gallery or something. I am not sure where or how to do this (using an image that isn't in the library already).

    Thanks.

    Hello Dave,

If you want to import an image to use as a backdrop to your scene do the following:

    [attachmentid=18081]

Once you have opened a new model screen create a canvas simulular to the following:

    [attachmentid=18082]

Open up the file to the image you require and click open, this will put it into your images file(see below)

    [attachmentid=18083]

Then in your model workspace do the following:

    [attachmentid=18084]

Right click - New - Decal (then your image) Apply. This will apply your image to the canvas witch you can then import into the Choreography window.

    Hopefully this might help?

  5. The reason i told dave aka KurryKid about changing the backround colour in PWS is i thought he might be using a seperate compositing program to create an image/animation.

    Jay,

I understand what you are saying. Isolating elements through color is always an option but it often means more work. If someone is used to working a particular way that way might work better than another.

If he plans to use other compositing programs that should be even more reason to use an alpha channel as compositing programs are almost always designed to use them.

As you demonstrate there is almost always more than one angle of approach to any particular problem!

A lot will just depend on what the artist has in mind.

Thanks for the input... its always appreciated.

    Hello Rodney,

Thanks for the reply,Please help though. When i read your reply on this thread it only showed up to: (designed to use them) and when i was going to reply it showed more of your answer! am i missing something? There was'nt an extra page showing this.Sorry i am still new to the forum side of thing's and don't know if i am doing something wrong! Also how do you isolate sections of a post by someone when you want to answer it?(Sorry for posting on this thread).

    Jay :(

  6. I still need to investigate the background issue to see if I can do all the work I am planning entirely in A:M or I may to use other programs as well to get it done.

Hello dave ,What is exactually the problem with your backround image?

If you can explain more we/someone may be able to help!

    Cheers rodney

The composite side of A:M is a powerfull tool, which i haven't really explored yet(which i kow i will when it comes to the FW-190 exercise). The reason i told dave aka KurryKid about changing the backround colour in PWS is i thought he might be using a seperate compositing program to create an image/animation.

To Dave aka KurryKid,The composite side of A:M is a powerfull tool, look @ the compiste side of the forum

to find an incredidble wealth of information on the subject.

    Jay :D

  7. I can see how you can add something that exists like a stage that is already predefined. I am interested in how you add your own images / backgrounds. It doesn't look like you can just "import" an image. There must be a process you have to do to get it "ready" for the software.

If you can let me know what it is you are trying to import i will see if i can try and help you.

I'm still a newbie myself so may have to let someone else answer your question.

I also want to be able to add a "green screen" behind the character so I can import it into another program and replace the background. This just needs to be a single color swatch for the background. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can replace the colour of the backround from the camera view.In your pws go to properties and then pick the shortcut to camera 1(or whatever camera you are looking through).

    [attachmentid=18071]

Then with your properties window open you will have an option to change the backround colour.

    [attachmentid=18072]

Click on the colour and you will be given the following options-

    [attachmentid=18073]

Pick the desired colour you need and the render will have that backround colour,This also works with the ground model as well.

I hope this is of some help

  8. Very nice Jason.

You are a force to be reckoned with.

What you put together for Exercise 4 is one of those scenes that makes me want to see more of the story... what going on? Who is he? Where is he?

    I like! Great job!

The glowing is an especially nice touch.

    Nice baseball diamond too! :)

I am just beginning but I want to learn how to add in backgrounds...at what point in the tutorials do we get to learn how to do that?

Great job Jason...how long have you been using A:M?

Hello KurryKid,Welcome to A:M.I think you are going to have a blast using this software.

I have only been using A:M since december 05(Christmas present to myself).I had a quick flirtation with a 3d

program called blender 3d before using A:m but never really warmed to it.As to your question about adding backrounds, you will find a brief snippet in Exercise 2:Chorus line which will give you the basics of adding a backround for your models,a stage in this instance. As for adding other models to other scenes when you do them all i can say is experiment. You will find great things on your librarys in the cd also check out other areas in the forums and again Experiment.

If you get stuck just shout! theyre are a great bunch of guy's and gal's here in the community who are only to willing to help you. :D

    Jay

  9. Thanks for the encouragement guy's really appreciated. :D

    Jason,

Wow... if you make a movie for every exercise what are you going to do once you finish TAoA:M? :P

    Hello Rodney

Once i finnish the TAoA:M i hope to go on to the animation boot camp & then help out on T W O iF it's not finnished by then(also if i think i'm good enough).I then want to do a short film for which i have written a rough draft and put away until i'm good and ready.

for the blinks(i know they are a little forced in this, but when i put it up the first time on putfile to test the final look you didn't actually see the blinks clearly) .

    Date completed 3-7-06 @ 11.13pm

Remarks - No real remarks other than i wished i finished the end of the animation a bit better. No problems with the knight model.I really enjoyed this one as you can see from the finnished animation.Roll on exercise 5.

Iwould like to add that when you look @ the site with the animation on it you will see an abandoned idea i first had for this exercise,i was going to do a proper baseball animation but abanded it when i realised i didnt

have the required skills to do it justice.Maybe one to come back to in a few years time.So all that you will see is a finnished baseball pitch which i am quite proud of.

Please see link below for Spaceball,Sorry Baseball animation.

  12. I see in the first and last images the time cursor is set to 00:01:00, which is one second into an animation. Is this supposed to be an animation or a still image? If it's supposed to be a still image, in the render options panel that pops up when you do a render to file, set the frame range to start at 00:01:00 and end at 00:01:00. My guess is that it's set to start and end at 00:00:00 (the default values).

Oh yes, there's another error: Katy really won't appreciate being reminded she's 35. Trust me.

Cheers Stuart i knew it would be something silly. The frame range is a leftover from a sim cloth experiment

which will be added to the picture later. This will be partialy covering the 35 up,with another character holding

a placard with the word's 21 AGAIN and winking. She has a good sense of humor so will like it,either that or my life is going to be hell for a while. :D

    Cheers.

  13. Please can someone help me?I am doing a birthday card for a friend and have come to a standstill.

As you can see from the quick render screen the picture(wip)is ok.But when i do a render to file the Thom model on HAPPY disapears and the HAT ends up on the floor.

I am using the current version of V13a.

Please someone tell me this is just a silly newbie mistake.

  14. Hi

thanx for the reply, I have checked out the site but the problem is that (as far as I can see) you can only view the files, no one can download it, you see I haveto have the files at a certain rez and spec, they must not just be able to view them, they must be able to download them, viewing isnt needed, I just need to be able to put them there and they must download it....

    Leo

Sorry Leo,I misread what you were after.I havent come across a free solution but there is a place

called www.filecloud.com but this would cost in us dollars approx 4.95 a month.I don't know how much you spend on couriers but this might be a cheaper solution in the long run.

  15. Hi all

Does anyone know of a free site where I can upload my images for someone to download?

I have images round 20MB and are too big to email, is there a way that I can put them somewhere for my publisher to download, so I dont have to keep burning them to CD and couriering them.

If there is some way that I can do this on some free site, could someone please point me in the right direction.

preferably it must also be password protected.

    any Ideas will be appreciated

    thanx

    Leo

Hello Leo,I use a site called www.putfile.com they allow you to upload files to a max of 25mb in either avi

or jpeg.It is password protected in as much you can only upload to your web space and delete stuff as neccessary but other people can look at it.

Here is a my web address at the site www.putfile.com/youngman1.Sorry it's not hot linked as i am @ work at the momement and are systems are restricted.I hope this helps.

    Jay :D

  16. What if you choose those point, go to front view and simply move them down to create a hole where your dugout can go?

Thanks Dhar,Ithink i've got the idea.See attached (it aint pretty)needs some work, plus i'm getting a bit goggled eyed @ the momement.Fresh eyes are needed tomorrow.

    cheers.

    cut_3.jpg

  17. [.

You need to modify your Ground model so that it has a hole in it corresponding to where the dugout is. A:M doesn't dig holes for you!

    Can you say "D'oh!"?

I'm being a real newbie here. How do i cut holes in the ground model.I have tried to delete cp's and all they are doing is removing holes @ opposite area's.See attached images.

  18. I think your camera angle is a bit off. Maybe if you pulled in a bit closer and made the angle wider???

I'm guessing at this point because I'm not sure if I know what the problem is.

Sorry i will be more precise in what im after.

I am doing exercise 4 in Taom and im modelling a baseball pitch(done).i want to add a dgout at the side of the pitch wich will have players in it.the top half will show above ground with the bottom half under. But if i were to pan the camera past at a high angle i would like to see into the Dugout.I hope this explains what effect im after a little better.Thanks.

  19. Does your trench have a ground??

Could you remove the default ground?

Or could you just raise your trench above the default ground?

I have attached some new pictures of the model above the ground plane.

    It dosent have a base.

the top half of a character from a straight on view. But when the camera goes above the character i would like to see into they're trench.I have attached some screenshots of a simple model but when i put the model

halfway down the ground the hole is filled by the ground.(hhhheeeeellllppppp).

  21. Hi I don't know if anyone else is having this problem as well as me.

I'm trying to log into the community from ver 12u and keep on getting an error message that reads:

    Exception #23.Socket error in stream.

And in ver13 beta 1 i am getting the following message:Cube Map (Cross)

In both instances the program completely hang's and does nothing.

Can anyone help or shed any light on this for me?

    Many thanks

Here is my contribution to exercise 3.I got a little carried away doing this and spent god knows how many hours trying to model the cross bar & vault pole(i really should look @ the manual and video guy before i start.)

I hope you like my effort as i am really enjoying doing the exercises right now,and i really look forward to obtaining my certificate on completion(whenever that is?).
