  1. Here's some more inside info for you all:

There are a few parts in the speeder chase where the legs were CG & the top half is a live greenscreen element (the part where he jumps off the speeder and jumps back on & the part where he slams on the breaks, does a 180 & shoots his blaster at the ships behind him & a few other shots) all those shots had CG legs & a live top half!!!

Wow! That is some nice compositing!! After Effects too??

  2. Well, at home on my measly cable connection, it downloaded pretty fast. Nice work! Interesting making the Assasin a droid.

For some reason though, every time I saw the 3D version of Fett and the Assasin walking it reminded me of the robot from an old Scooby Doo episode (anyone remember the one with amusement park and the robot on the loose??).

Now if only the rest of us could find time (maybe someday)to make ours as well.

Thanks for sharing your hard work with the rest of us, and keep up the good work!

  3. Still....trying...to...down...load...

Hmm, although I can't wait to check it out, did you happen to turn on "fast start for internet" when you compressed these? If you used Cleaner, then that's a default setting. If you have not done so, then go into QT Pro, save movie as (self-contained" and make sure "fast start for internet" is selected.

Now back to waiting (on a T1 line here...)

  4. Here are a few leaf scans done by me that are royalty free and available for anyone to use, if you want them. Sorry, no alpha channel.

That's it Graham, keep providing stuff for the PC gang so Marcel will feel guilty enough to get this done so we can get it on the Mac. ;)

  5. Although it would be way cool to play with this for us Mac users (wringing hands, salivating), it looks like Marcel keeps pumping out new versions with new little features at an incredible pace (you da man Marcel!). But, the good sid of this is you guys get to beta test for us Mac guys (although we are a little envious), and I'm guessing once the big M has this locked down to a point, we can get Randy or one of the other guys at Hash (Ken, how's that new marketing gig going?? We KNOW you miss programming and compiling, doncha??) to make it Macintized.

So Marcel, as much as we appreciate your speediness, can you hurry it up!?!?! ;)

This is getting a little to difficult to bear any longer! :(

  6. WOW! Except for a few playback issues on the crappy Dell I use at work, really nice work. Boy, does this bring me back to one of the better times in my professional career making multimedia CD's and websites (big and small teams of some of the most talented and really great people I worked with). It's not often you come across sites anymore that use QTVR, nice 3D animation, Flash, and all the other cool things that the web can be.

I am impressed and want to thank you for bringing back some fond memories.

    Keep up the good work!

  7. Well, I ended up using Rob's example, and his did use an outer sphere with the material applied. It turned out okay on mine, but I'm going to give it a whack tonight with the material applied directly to the earth itself, and then try it with the one from Richard. One thing I did have to do to make Rob's work better from up close is add a glow to one of the attributes. As soon as I can get my hands on some web space, I'll post my results.

    Thanks gang!

    Greg

  8. This is why I have stuck with AM for all these (8) years. Not because of what AM can do (and there is a ton I have yet to learn...), but because of all the extremely kind, generous, and creative people in this community.

    Thanks Robcat!

  9. Okay, So I have a nice model of our planet (Earth, for most of you I would guess...), and now I would like to figure out how to make that really nice blueish glow from the atmosphere. I tried turning on glow, but iwhen it's just right, if washes out the rest of the planet (or parts of the planet are too bright). Yes, I adjusted the glow radius, etc, etc. but just can't get it dialed in.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  10. Well, I was able to get this to render okay...I basically removed the decal, made a new action, used the built-in pose for flattening, and reapplied the map. But, the model is way to small ( I had to shrink the earth map down to about 25%). So, I though I'd try again, this time making the earth WAY bigger. Now the pose silder does not affect the whole model.

This is beginning to bring me down. Anyone know how to create a flatenning pose from scratch for a globe?

If I make the Earth bigger in the chor, the map gets all wonky.

    Thanks!

    Greg

  11. Hey Hashers!

I am working on a small short project, and have most everything I need but a model of Earth. I did go to Mike's Animation Pit Stop and downloaded the model there, but the renders turned out way to funky, namely the map of the Earth. I'm using 10.5o, and the maps for it came in jpeg format, but AM says it does not support that format. So, I converted them to TGA files in PS. And the final result in a render is all blocky for the one. The map for the cloud layer works fine.

So, can someone either point me to another nice model, or maybe give me a hand with this one?

    Thanks for any help!

(and no, I can not post any pictures since my web site is down : ( . )

  12. Oh, you know, I was just thinking of the ball because of the image of the chrome on the sphere in the material window. Long busy day at the office.

Maybe he can't see the reflection because of the position of the camera, and or grid. If he moved the grid to the left or right and rotated it a skosh, then maybe he'd see the reflection.

But if the mirror (the grid) is right behnd the object, perfectly in line with the camera, no reflection will be seen.

  13. Try taking off the texture, select your sphere in the modeling window, give it a group name, then add the texture back onto that. In the modeling window, it won't look like much, since there is nothing to reflect. To see how it works, put it in a new choreography so it psick up the light and ground plane.

    Good luck!

  14. Hey gang,

Anyone have an idea as how to make a tile material (like the tiles on the space shuttle), with a little bit of depth and not a lot of space between? I tried some of the plug-ins--scales were too scaley, cellular to cell-y. I know I can just map one on, but thought there might be a way to use a material.

    Thanks!

    Greg

  15. I was just going to say, it could be kinda hard making a Sean (pronounced Shawn btw), unless you are married or have a willing girlfriend who wants to start a family  , unless of course you are wanting to make a virtual Sean.

But I digress. My best advice is listen to what the rest of the guys have said. Really. They are some of the best artists out there, and know what they are talking about, and hey, it's a lot cheaper than buying a book or going to some classes at the local JC.
